Matt Kenseth grabbed his first career win by applying the iron horn
coming into turn 3 on the final lap to beat Tony Stewart. The better
news for Kenseth was that it attracted Lyco's to sponsor him for the
full year (Lyco's was planning being on board for only 2 races) and it
gave Kenseth the the points lead for the first time in his career.
Stewart was positively fuming after the race. Jeff Burton led the most
laps but had a problem on a pit-stop to leave it to Stewart and Jeff Burton

This race pretty much made Kenseth a star.

8 and a half years later Matt and Tony are two of the premier drivers in
the Cup Series.

Maybe this is the reason Tony doesn't like Matt. Maybe Tony needed a
twinkie to calm him down after this one.

According to the TNN telecast of this race, I don't think Lycos actually
sponsored the Robbie Reiser owned team for this race. The TNN announcers
said that the team put the Lycos name on the rear quarter panels as a
thank you for sponsoring the team at Daytona.

Buddy Baker repeatedly referred to Matt as "Robbie Reiser" during the
heated final laps of the event.
