One of the bigger ones was a 4 car pileup with Buckshot Jones and Hermie Sadler. Dave Blaney then hit Jeff Purvis square into Hermie. He was taken off in a strecher but was ok. Congrats to Dale Jr. 3. Darrell posted: 01.27.2007 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think Jimmy Foster had a nasty wreck that forced him to miss some races. Great run by Jeff Krogh. 4. This was Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s weekend all his own and he owned the spotlight. The reason the big wrecks happened in the Cup races the first two years was because of water seepage in turn 2 and they finally repaved the track and patched the offending issue. Texas had a tough foray into the sport as it replaced North Wilkesboro's spring date. At least they fixed the issue. 9. 23andJoe posted: 02.27.2014 - 8:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Order of DNQs: 44. #59 Pressley 45. #64 Trickle 46. #88 Schwantz 47. #16 Day 48. #8 Hillin Jr. 49. #62 Lorenz 50. #48 Smokstad 51. #78 J.Fuller 10. 23andJoe posted: 02.27.2014 - 8:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) #16 sponsor: 31-W Insulation Pontiac (Wayne Day) #48 sponsor: Unifirst Uniforms Ford (James Porter #59 sponsor: Kingsford/Matchlight Chevrolet (Tad Geschickter) #62 sponsor: Pantera Chevrolet #78 sponsor: Mark III Financial Chevrolet (Dan Browder) #88 sponsor: Ryder Chevrolet (Kevin Schwantz) 11. Green, making his first Busch start of the season, brought the blue-and-white Monte Carlo home with a top-10 run. 14. Did they not have a provisional system at this time? If they did, I can't figure out how he could fail to qualify. 16. oldschoolracing519 posted: 12.17.2017 - 9:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) pretty sure the rules back then were Cup drivers were not able to take provisionals in the lower series. 17. jensenators posted: 12.18.2017 - 7:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is from JAyski's 1998 Provisional page: If a Busch Series driver also drives in the Winston Cup Series and is 35th or higher in Cup driver points he cannot take a provisional in the Busch Series. This supposedly does not apply to former BGN champs. Here is the link to the page if you'd like to read through it. interesting read: http://www.jayski.com/stats/1998/98prov.htm 18. It sounds like a pretty good rule though--even if it hurt Dick Trickle in this instance. 19. SK posted: 02.23.2020 - 5:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Krogh was one of a handful of drivers who benefited from a little late pit strategy luck - when Jimmy Spencer crashed with 17 laps to go, a significant number of drivers who had made pit stops were trapped a lap down, but the likes of Krogh, Kyle Petty, Randy LaJoie and Tim Fedewa (who had not pitted yet) suddenly found themselves with a shot at great finishes after running toward the back all day. DNQ correction - Hank Parker Jr. attempted the race in car #78, not Jeff Fuller. Comment 10 also contains some accurate sponsor/owner data for the guys who missed the show. 23. His car control and fearlessness were breathtaking. Races like this make you think that Jr underachieved in Cup relative to his raw talent by 10-15 wins, but he still had a HOF career of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
