Look at what's been done to Mansfield to make it a CTS-worthy track. Just a couple million in renovations, and a slight lenghtening would be sufficient. 3. For a good chunk of the event, they showed the race from only one camera and limited commentary. They briefly showed part of the previous years' race also. By the time the race ended, everything was back to normal. Apparently, the track got the boot from the schedule (officially) because they couldn't adhere to the new 43 car rule (all starting fields in Busch and Cup that year had 43 cars (unless there was a lack of entries)), and the fact that they couldn't raise the minimum purse of $500,000 to keep the race (they came up $130,000 short). 4. And in dominating fasion too. Career-best 7th place for All-Pro standout Mike Cope too 5. A bunch of guys trying to make their way to the big time via the "semi-pro" league on a short track like Hickory. Shame it's now all support races for the Cup Series and the field is 3/4 Cup guys in the race "just for fun". 6. One the original tracks on the first busch schedule in 1982. Sad to see it go, and it was replaced by one of those crappy 1.5 mile cookie cutter tracks, that are not very interesting. 11. awesomebillfan9 posted: 03.27.2013 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Only win for Ford in the Busch Series at Hickory 12. sk posted: 07.03.2013 - 3:24 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The prior week's run at Texas savaged the Busch Series regulars. Jimmy Foster chipped a bone in his foot and Jeff Purvis broke his shoulder, causing both men to miss the race at Hickory (Andy Houston and Dennis Setzer subbed, respectively). Hermie Sadler sustained a dislocated fibula but drove anyway, and Hank Parker Jr. returned from practice crash injuries at Texas to wipe out his team's only car and subsequently withdraw from the field. Given the injuries to Cope, Skinner and Sacks on the Cup side, NASCAR was on the heels of one of its tallest casualty counts in modern history. 13. 23andJoe posted: 02.27.2014 - 8:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) According to the official starting lineup, the #21 was a Chevrolet To the rear: #66 Elliott Sadler (backup car) 14. 23andJoe posted: 02.27.2014 - 8:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Order of DNQs: 32. #40 Lepage 33. #48 R.Porter 34. #96 Rumley 35. #20 Alexander 36. #14 Moise 37. #68 Diamond 38. #21 Chapman 39. #49 Jenkins 40. #39 Beahr 41. #78 Parker Jr. 15. 23andJoe posted: 02.27.2014 - 8:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #40 sponsor: Channellock Chevrolet (Doug Taylor) #48 sponsor: Unifirst Uniforms Ford (James Porter) #68 sponosr: J&L Motors Chevrolet (Jerry Francis) #20 make: Chevrolet #40 make: Chevrolet #48 make: Ford #49 make: Ford #68 make: Chevrolet 16. Luckily this one is on YouTube. 17. bayley01 posted: 06.02.2016 - 10:31 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) BRING HICKORY BACK!!!!!! 18. Maverick posted: 10.23.2016 - 12:00 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) When I look at today's Xfinity races at larger (usually 1.5 mile) tracks, I see thousands of empty seats and usually a boring racing product. If NASCAR wants to turn this series back in the right direction, why not bring back tracks like Hickory, IRP, South Boston, Myrtle Beach, Nashville (short track), Memphis, etc? With the current dreadful attendance, the tracks could accomodate spectators, and with the 40 car field they could accomdate all the cars. (After all, Oxford, a 1/3 mile track, had a 47 car field for a Busch series race in 1988...) If NASCAR wants to turn this series back in the right direction, changing the schedule would be the 2nd best thing behind limiting Buschwhackers. I mean, full crowds, and racing that is probably 10x better. What's not to like? 19. BMan0213 posted: 10.23.2016 - 12:15 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) Even with all the empty seats those Xfinity races probably still have 30,000 people there. All the tracks you listed off have far less then that and at the end of the day all NASCAR cares about is money. They'd rather have a boring race at Texas that can hold more people than a race at a short track then holds maybe 10,000. 20. RaceFanX posted: 02.01.2017 - 8:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Mike Dillon has a career day as he both qualifies and finishes in the top-5 for the only time in his Busch series career, Dillon's fourth-place run matches his career best effort in the series. Dillon also led a career-high 54 laps in this one. This was the only race in a four-race stretch from Bristol to Talladega that Robert Pressley even qualified for BUT he makes the most of it and takes a surprise pole position then leads the early stages of this race en route to a much needed top-10. Wow, only Pressley, Dillon, and Berrier led this one. Those were not drivers you usually expected to see up front in this era. Pressley would not led another lap all season. 21. The race was red flagged for a bit as the emergency crews tended to the injured crew members at pit exit. This happened during the power outage so the TV camera view of that pit incident is fairly limited, but Eli Gold did a great job explaining exactly what had happened to the viewers. 23.
