Mike Cope did pretty well starting 34th and finishing 9th in his 4th to last start, lots of those with crashes. 9. It was a different number officially (#141?) and was Phoenix Racing's backup car, rolled off the truck and renumbered to fill the field. Therefore it was a James Finch owned car. 13. I think a lot of fans were hoping he would be just as overly aggressive as his old man but he grew out of that approach quick. 17. In an interview with Dale Jr shown during the broadcast of the Watkins Glen race after this he talked about bumping Tony from behind a couple times but said it was no big deal just racing. He then said later Stewart got into him from behind hard enough to put Dale Jr into the wall but he was going to let that go. But after the race Dale Jr said "Him and his little crew chief buddy came up talking crap and we weren't gonna let that go." Tony missed the next race at Watkins Glen to run in the IRL, but at the drivers meeting Randy LaJoie brought Dale Jr a pair of boxing gloves. 19. Thanks. 22. Canadianfan posted: 09.20.2020 - 2:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @21 Because of the time difference almost certainly this race started later. 23. Dennis posted: 09.22.2020 - 2:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @22 Thank you. That's what I thought but didn't know if they started the Pikes Peak race earlier than normal to try and finish in time for Michigan or since Colorado being a couple hours behind they ran the Michigan race then went to Pikes Peak. 24. Dennis posted: 10.15.2020 - 9:12 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @22 As for confirmation I found this race on Youtube and about 30/40 laps in ESPN did their sports roundup across the bottom of the screen and it had Mark Martin winning the Michigan Cup race, so Michigan started first and finished around the green flag at Pikes Peak. 25. JSPorts posted: 10.15.2020 - 9:38 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I wish they'd still run Cup & Xfinity races on the same day in different locations. If they did that more often, then they wouldn't even have to restrict Buschwhackers, because they couldn't attempt to run both. 26. Onion posted: 10.15.2020 - 10:10 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Agreed. It would shut up people like me who constantly complain about Cup drivers in lower series and it would give a better opportunity to the people who are actually up and comers. Although we can't forget the backdraws either. Having the oddest of odd field fillers come out for these races is quite a minor problem (like here, Brewco, Phoenix and Taylor rolling out their backups, which they almost never did), doubling travel costs stretching the resources of teams who operate in both series is a larger concern. I guess it's possible to solve with having two locations in a relatively close proximity, but at different venues. But to talk about this race a bit; Solid runs for Fuller and Moise who both kept out of trouble and hung onto the lead lap all the way through en route to one of their very few good finishes of 1998. Noffsinger was also running with those two and stayed on the lead lap until engine issues sidelined him midway through. 27. Pacer posted: 10.15.2020 - 10:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Busch and Cup pit crew overlap so much these days you may have to make pit stop adjustments if staging an event like that. They had to do that for a few races this year. 28. Mile501 posted: 10.15.2020 - 10:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 - NASCAR did adjust pit stop procedures in Xfinity for standalone races starting this year. However, the way the schedule had to be changed, they only ended up with 1 standalone race and the procedure seemed to confuse everyone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
