Fellows was able to beat the race's defending champion and local driver Mike McLaughlin by almost 3 seconds. Ashton Lewis, making only his fourth career Busch start (and first since 1995), turns in an astounding performance in his family-owned Taurus, charging from 42nd to 3rd in the final rundown. Lewis would go on to maintain a steady, albeit less than fruitful, career as a regular in the series through the 2006 season, though his future in stock car racing is in doubt after the Rensis released him this past off-season. Also, David Green made his first start in the #36 Cicci-Welliver Pontiac, replacing Matt Hutter and coming home with his first BGN top-5 since his days with Buz McCall's team. Jack Sprague makes his return to the Busch Series, having last appeared in the division in October 1993. Sprague drove the Doug Taylor Motorsports #40 as a one-race fill-in for Kevin Lepage. 2. Anyhow, might as well note Scott Lagasse's 14 laps led in one of his final NASCAR starts - the only laps he led in any of the three major series, including the Craftsman Truck Series where he finished 9th in points back in '95. 3. It had the Track Gear (Jeff Burton's sponsor at the time) paint scheme but no Track Gear decals on the car. 4. Pole-sitter Boris Said spun out coming out of turn 1 on the very first lap. He would not lead a single lap and retire early with an engine failure. 11. He'd also go on to finish 2nd in just his fourth Cup start ever. I know he's a road course racer. Still very impressive. 12. Marty Reid and Ray Dunlap were the pit road reporters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
