From then on it was an Earnhardt and Gordon show as the race was won on pit strategy. 2. Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon traded the lead for a few laps, but Gordon faded near the end of the race. Dale Sr. said in victory lane, "I can get used to this owner thing. I'll only be driving for a few more years." 6. Note the lack of Cup teams, the greater number of competitors, and IMO, better competition. 7. That would never happen nowadays (if the provisional system were still used). 8. 83andJoe posted: 06.24.2013 - 11:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #35 crew chief: Brad Pickens 9. Yeah well Phil Parsons was 12th in points entering this race and DNQ'd, the highest points driver to ever DNQ for a NASCAR race that late in a season. He would have made the race but was out of provisionals, so the final points provisional spot went to Tony Raines who was 13th in points prior to this race. 12. It is however surprising that driver was a Busch regular, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., instead of a Buschwacking Cup racer who did it. "Little E," as he was still known then, made his third career Cup start the day after this victory. This was Earnhardt's penultimate win as a Busch regular in the ACDelco #3 before he moved up to Cup full-time in 2000. It was the first of two consecutive Busch wins in a row for Junebug at M.I.S. but he would have to wait until 2006 to get the second half of that streak the next time he raced in the series here. 17. His crash was in Friday morning practice. 18. 23andJoe posted: 01.09.2018 - 7:40 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) ^ It's worth noting that for a long time NASCAR would officially credit teams with a DNQ, instead of "Withdrawn", as long as the car made it through inspection. 19.
