This was his last start of 2. His first start came a week earlier at Daytona. 5. most posted: 08.08.2007 - 4:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dave Steele is a USAC guy, ran some Indy Car races around this time and ended up getting hurt in practice for the Indy 500. Haven't heard too much from him since but I may be wrong about what he has done in the past few years. Rockingham had a way of trying to ruin a promising season with a DNQ. Many people have missed the Rock or Atlanta with new teams and no points. 6. He still races USAC Silver Crown cars and has won a couple of championships a few years ago. 7. Onion posted: 11.28.2019 - 6:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A few drivers caught a major break with the caution for David Green's tire, as it came towards the end of a green flag stop cycle, meaning only the 7 cars which were yet to stop restarted in line behind the leader with a further 4 cars at the tail end of the lead lap. I really enjoy following cars that get a break like that in older races, so why not take a look at what happened to the lucky 7 here. As usual in those years, Martin wasn't just dominant, but also disgustingly lucky, so of course his famous #60 was one of the 7 and allowed him to beat out cars that were perhaps faster this time. Along the other big names helped by the caution were Jeff Green and Ron Hornaday, with Green being put past Burton and Hornaday being taken out from around 15th to end up having to race nobody too competitive. Kevin Grubb was also one of the lucky few, he was just outside the top 10 for most of the opening stint. Lyndon Amick was just ahead of Hornaday and caught what to me seems a very rare lucky break for him to restart 7th. It wouldn't be Amick if he didn't put it in the wall, but this time the car was not too damaged and he had to forfeit only a few places to drivers who got their lap back during the debris caution. The final two drivers who made it back to the lead lap were Mike Dillon who was by far the slowest of the bunch and managed to drop back to the midfield and Justin Labonte who managed to run with Martin for a few laps before the caution but had to make a stop with overheating problems towards the end. A final mention should go to Michael Ritch who had a very good run in this race and ran 10th on merit before the pitstops that messed up the order. 13.
