He was busted by NASCAR for doing drugs in 2001, and hasn't been heard from since. 2. Darrell posted: 04.14.2006 - 1:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) I like the nickname. My dad arrested his brother, Dustin Skinner, for stealing beer once. 5. Sterling Marlin wins in a car that had missed the past three races with Dave Steele. 8. The plan was for Steele to take over the car for the race (starting at the rear of the field of course). However, NASCAR has a little known rule that rookies must qualify a car to be allowed to race. Since Sterling qualified the car, Steele wasn't allowed to race. Sterling drove the car in the race and ended up winning. 14. nascarman posted: 03.26.2017 - 9:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Driver Change: 82 / Dave Steele / Channellock / Felix Sabates / Chevrolet 15. Onion posted: 03.16.2020 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Quite a few boneheads in Bristol meant total carnage. It seemed like all cautions had two parts. First, someone got spun by an overly aggressive driver, then someone a few places behind either lost it or got ran over, turning minor 1-2 car incidents into major wrecks. Buckshot, who else, was having an absolute romp in this one. He slowed massively and seemingly without reason, leading to the first caution before he completed the very first corner. Then he ran over Stefanik failing to check up after a charging Keller spun Fedewa. Finally, to close out his minutes of madness, he again forgot what the brakes were and how to check up, this time spinning Fedewa. Jamie Skinner only spent a quarter of the race on the track, but still managed to wreak just as much havoc and tear up a lot more equipment than Buckshot, which is commendable in all the wrong ways. To start out, he took out Wasson in an unnecessary move which got the field bunched up and eventually led to the 3rd caution. Just after they restarted, he really insisted on staying ahead of Amick, who, being another regular fixture in cautions, wasn't having it. Yet another restart and another attempt at coming down at another driver's left front, Skinner was finally out. The second incident may not have been his fault, but still some way to leave NASCAR... All the while Kelly Denton (as usual) and Jason Keller (oddly) were also consistently running into people and causing a mess. Lucky NOT to cause a massive incident was Michael Waltrip. He spun, the caution flew and Mikey just drove back on the racing line where cars taking their laps back were coming full speed. Even by the standards of this race, it was excessively stupid. On the flipside, some drivers did extremely well - Marlin drove very cautiously in the first 125 laps, using the cars directly ahead as picks and only making moves when he was sure to keep his nose clean, before letting it loose. Can't imagine what a change it must have been from the antics of David Steele for this team, who was actually their spotter for this race. Blaise Alexander was having a rare good run, managed to stay on the lead lap through most of the race and had a top 10 spot when he was involved in the biggest crash of the day. Gus Wasson qualified well and ran in 14th until Skinner took him out. And a small oddity at the end: Denton's #75 didn't have the 2000 Monte Carlo decals, running the old-style small headlight stickers and no rear lights. 17. rm posted: 07.29.2020 - 8:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The spotter audio during the second caution was hilarious, trying to coach one of the (unnamed) drivers that had been spun out to get it back going and not lose another lap, only to suddenly have to yell out to slow it back down because they just wrecked on the other end of the track after the yellow came out. For as much as I love early-2000s Bristol, man some of those races are frustrating to watch in retrospect, you couldn't get anything resembling a green flag run going until you finally put ten of em behind the wall and had five more limping around looking like a modified. This was one of those days. I'd also like to ask whoever suggested to Anthony Lazzaro that he should try his hand at stock cars what they were thinking. It didn't go well for him at any level. As for Dave Steele, he never hopped back in a stock car and stuck to sprint cars until his untimely death a couple years back. In total 9 entrants to this race have since passed away, though a couple other early-season races from the 2000 Busch season topped even that number with 10. 18.
