Last race of Adam Petty's career before he died five years ago today.
Was killed in a practice crash in New Hampshire.

Christian Lovendahl, the crew chief for the #19 Yellow Racing Chevrolet
driven by P.J. Jones, was killed in a traffic accident the night of this
race. Jones had failed to qualify for the event, and the team was
returning to their shop at North Carolina.

Lovendahl was also the nephew of Mark Martin.

what a sad weekend too, i remember watching RPM2night after the wreck
and crying my eyes out.

This was a race that Mark Martin should have won, but bad pit strategy
cost him. All of the leaders pitted on the caution at lap 166, except
Martin, and Steve Park. They pitted on the lap 196 caution. Martin got
back to 4th, Park 6th.

Dr. Jerry Punch and Benny Parsons were the commentators. Bill Weber and
Ray Dunlap were the pit road reporters.
