This race ended up shaking out as a battle between points leader Jeff Green and rising star Kevin Harvick. Green came into this race hot off his win at South Boston but fell back to third from the lead on lap 40 when Harvick put the bumper to him. Green raced back up and once he got back in front of Harvick pulled away to claim the third win of his championship season. A late caution for multi-car wreck involving Andy Santerre gave Harvick one last shot but Green and the NesQuik #10 Chevy Monte Carlo were just too strong. Jeff Purvis crashed out of this one after contact with Randy LaJoie. Purvis wasn't pleased with how that played out and got out of his car with his helmet to go looking for LaJoie as the cars came back around under caution. Most of the field went high around the safety vehicles and the wrecked #4 Pontiac but LaJoie sneaked by Purvis before he could launch his helmet at him by going low. Purvis ran down the track but LaJoie thankfully was gone before he could get his throw in. Phillip Morris leads a Busch series race for the second and final time. His chances for any sort of a good finish were dashed when Mike Dillon got together with Todd Bodine and spun, collecting him as Dillon and Morris both got the outside wall. Dillon's spinning car also almost collected Tony Raines and his #33 that were in front of them but Raines escaped unscathed. It was doubly tough luck for Dillon, his third-place qualifying effort here was the best he ever had in Busch series competition. Jay Fogelman makes his final Busch series start and finishes a solid 12th, following up on his 11th in the final race. The USAR ProCup star and the #68 team attempted several races later in the season but didn't qualify for any of them. 13. Whoops. But did this race mark the NASCAR tv debut of Bob Dillner? I think but I'm not sure. 16. Bob Dillner and Mark Garrow were the pit road reporters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
