Lyndon Amick spun in the opening laps to trigger a huge chain reaction melee. The big one involved 12 cars and ruined the day for many drivers including Todd Bodine, Randy LaJoie, Mike McLaughlin and the previously mentioned Jim Bown in his final start. Jimmie Johnson pitted from the lead during a round of green flag pits stops and ended up suffering a rather severe pit fire in the process. Something went wrong with the refueling process but even as people used fire extinguishers to put out the left side of the car Jimmie's crew kept changing tires on the right side. They finished the stop, wiped off the foam dust from the windshield, checked the trunk where the fire started and Johnson rejoined the race. One crew member suffered minor burns, he could be seen on a reply running by with his arm on fire behind the pit wall as the chaos erupted, but despite all the smoke and powder from the extinguishers the whole mess did not bring out a caution. The fire may have been caused by Jimmie slightly overshooting his pit and backing up after the fuel man had put the can in causing a spill of gasoline that ignited. Universal Studios ran a promotion with both races this weekend with a couple cars bearing paint schemes for their classic movie monsters. Bobby Labonte won with one in the Cup race the next day. I assume Casey Atwood was supposed to run a Frankenstein paint job in this race as was Randy LaJoie for the Wolfman, there are diecasts of both, but instead they just had their normal colors (maybe they ran at another race, I don't know). 5. 83andJoe posted: 08.20.2013 - 4:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #74 sponsor: Bace Motorsports Chevrolet (Bill Baumgardner) #74 crew chief: Terry Wooten 6. 83andJoe posted: 08.20.2013 - 4:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #33 crew chief: Lance Dieters (same through the end of the year). 7. Buddy Baker wasn't too impressed in the fighting, jokingly saying on broadcast "Well if I ever get beat up by one of these people like that". That got quite a laugh from Stewart and Bestwick. 12.
