How can you blame them? ;) Actually, Gordon has lived up to his promise. Wish I could say the same thing about Mark Martin though. 3. Bush give some speech about the election. He was actually playing frisbee with his dog at his ranch during it. At least this race wasn't much more entertaining. 4. Don't they have 5 or 6 cable news networks? And they cut out of a live sporting event to a speech? Thank God in 2007 ESPN replaces them. We still have to put up with TNT (they wouldn't know drama if they fell over it in an alley), but only for 6 races. 5. The car helped launch the careers of Steve Park, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Green as well as helping Dale win many of his Daytona Busch races. The #15 Cup team with Michael Waltrip replaced it in 2001 when Earnhardt moved the NAPA sponsorship up to the big leagues. Dale sold the equipment after the season to A.J. Foyt who used it to field the #14 Harrah's Chevy for Larry Foyt the next year Ron Hornaday finished 38th in the #3's last start 16. Essentially a sister team to DEI, as the 1 team from 2006 was Truex's Busch team, but technically not a DEI team. 19. RaceFanX posted: 11.27.2012 - 11:39 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) This race was hyped all year as 'Mark Martin's final Busch race' as a huge Martin fan at the time I was really hoping he'd send the Winn-Dixie 60 into the history books with one last win. Then IIRC Jeff Gordon announced this would be his final Busch start about maybe a week before the race (it was very last minute for sure). The race ended up being all about those two but I was very disappointed Gordon prevailed and I thought he 'ruined Mark's going away party.' Of course fast forward a years and the irony becomes that Gordon kept his word and never ran in the series again, Martin returned in 2004 and has won four more races since. Knowing what I know now makes this a fitting end for Gordon in the Busch series. For years this was Jeff's only win at Homestead, he finally won a Cup race here over a decade later in 2012. This was the second victory of Gordon's brief return to the Busch series and his only one in 2000. In total Gordon has five Busch series wins, the other three all in his final full season in 1992. 23. Don't you remember how the election was hung because of the extremely close vote count in Florida. That was a tumultuous time for our country. It would be kind of crazy for a news organization not to cut in on their network affiliate when it's an almost certainty that all the other networks were. As much as I love NASCAR, it is NOT more important than choosing the next leader of our nation. Honestly, the things people find to complain about. 24. 83andJoe posted: 08.20.2013 - 4:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #74 sponsor: Bace Motorsports Chevrolet (Bill Baumgardner) #74 crew chief: Terry Wooten 25. The future Cup legend didn't record a top-5 all season and had only six top-10s. The future was bright for Johnson and Herzog team though, while this race was its last with Alltel as its sponsor (the cell company departing for Penske to partner with rookie Ryan Newman) the team would have a bigger new sponsorship from Excedrin pain reliever in 2001 and its performance was about to pick up. 35. Except that, his worst finishes are 14th, 13th and 12th, the rest are just top 5's and top 10's. Only Kevin Harvick in 2006 and Carl Edwards in 2007 had such a dominant season and secured the championship with more than one race to go. Also Sam Ard in 1984 and Brad Keselowski in 2010 had pretty dominant season, but their point lead wasn't even 500 points. 36. RaceFanX posted: 04.30.2019 - 3:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jeff Green was so dominant in 2000 that he had already clinched the championship three races early and here he capped off his incredible season with a solid third-place run and was the only Busch Series regular to lead a significant number of laps as Martin and Gordon controlled most of the race. While Green and his PPC Racing team won the title running Chevrolets this was the last race for he and his teammate Jason Keller switched over to racing Fords for 2001 as the FoMoCo squad offered the team more factory support. As it was no longer needed the Chevy body was cut off Green's car after this race and eventually hung upside from the roof of a race shop he used for years that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. owned. The body eventually found it way into Junior's famous car graveyard after Green moved out of the shop and gave it to Junior for that purpose. While the body was pretty pristine when it hung from the ceiling, although it maintained a donut Green got in this race, it ended up smashed on its way to the woods when it fell off the forklift in the shop as they removed it. This body was used on Green's cars for five of his six victories in 2000. 39.
