The team put Motor Racing Outreach decals on the car as a tribute to MRO's influence on the NASCAR and auto racing community, especially in the wake of Dale Earnhardt's death from the previous Sunday. Jeff Green was the only driver that gave Bodine a run for his money, but worn tires took him out of contention in the closing laps. Ryan Newman made his Busch Series debut, and it was certainly a memorable one for both good and bad reasons. After qualifying in 2nd place, he spun out on lap 3, which wadded up several cars further back in the pack as they avoided running into him. Then he almost wrecked race leaders Jeff Green and Todd Bodine when he squeezed down on them in the middle of a turn as they were lapping him. And finally, he took out Tim Fedewa when he moved up the race track in order to arch the car going into the turn, which resulted in Elton Sawyer and David Green suffering damage as well. Newman may have finished in 9th place, but he made a lot of boneheaded moves along the way. Basically, this race is the story of his career: Fast race cars and a talented, yet not very smart driver behind the wheel (Ironic, since he has an engineering degree). 13.
