Shawna's three race deal with Michael Waltrip was very highly hyped in the time leading up to it but the results were lackluster, she crashed out early both here and at Nashville. 4. With 36 laps to go, he was battling Tony Raines for 6th place when Raines got loose coming through the quad oval and got into Skinner, knocking him into the grass. Skinner managed to stay in the throttle going through the grass, merge back onto the track, keep the car from coming around (which it almost did) once the back wheels got back onto the asphalt, and gain the position. That right there is why they call Mike Skinner "The Gunslinger." 7. You'd think if some female driver did anything back then in NASCAR, even just qualifying a car, there would have been a big deal made about it even if she never did drive in a race and there's no record of her anywhere else either. 17. With all the hype regarding Robinson running this race I think a second female racer also would have drawn some media attention. 19. There's no record of Diana Drew on The Third Turn or anywhere else that I can find. 20. Jeff posted: 04.20.2020 - 4:13 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) McMurray crashed in qualifying. "Dallas, TX (March 31, 2001) Jamie McMurray was hoping to turn his luck around in his rookie season in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series at the Texas Motor Speedway. One year ago in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas, McMurray qualified 7th and was looking for the same results going into Busch Series qualifying for the Jani-King 300. As McMurray entered turn one in the #27 Williams Travel Centers Monte Carlo during qualifying, the car shot up against the outside wall and damaged the car forcing the team to resort to a back-up car. ?In qualifying the car was just way too tight and I got up in the fence,? said McMurray. ?I hated it for the all guys because they work so hard to give me these great racecars. We struggled all weekend with the car so maybe the back up car might be better.?" From Brewco Motorsports' page via Archive.org https://web.archive.org/web/20010402054246/http://www.brewco.com/ 21. Nobody qualified the car for McMurray, they took a provisional to get in the race. The lesson here is not to automatically assume everything on UHR is accurate. 23. gary24fan posted: 04.20.2020 - 7:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think @21 took today (420) a bit to the extreme. The link he provided points to a legitimate race of some sort (though I think URH mislabeled it as a NASCAR event) that Ms. Drew competed in. No mention of Jamie McMurray obviously as it was held in 1956. 24. MSportRev posted: 04.20.2020 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @23 It was a NASCAR Promoted Race, or likely was. I checked with nascarman on Twitter. My point was that URH mislabeled the entry for this race on their site. They usually have XYZ driver ?qualified car' when it's a back-up and the driver made the race. 25.
