Magic Shoes chalks up a win in his unsponsored #20 car, while Jimmy Spencer gets on his Winston Cup teammate Todd Bodine for not helping him out during the waning laps. The quote "Jimmy Spencer never forgets" likely won't ever be forgotten by diehard NASCAR fans. 2. Unfortuately, the lack of sponsorship on the 20 kept them from fielding two full-time cars that season. They would have contended for the championship if they did, and McLaughlin never seemed to click with the 18 crew like he did with the 20. They finally went back to two full-time teams in 2003 when Mike Bliss brought the Rockwell Automation sponsorship, and Coy Gibbs came in for his infamous "one and done" Busch season, which forced McLaughlin out. 5. biffle16 posted: 01.13.2007 - 3:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What happened to McLaughlin? 6. Darrell posted: 05.13.2007 - 1:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) He had signed with a new team called Angela's Motorsports in 2003, but the team ended up being nothing more than a scam set up by the owners, and he only ran a limited schedule that season. He drove the final part of the season for Team Rensi in the 25 car, but retired after that. He now works for Gibbs as a fabricator. 7. He also practices and qualifies one of Joe Gibbs Busch cars from time to time if Cup is racing somewhere else that weekend and Denny Hamlin is scheduled to run that race. 8. It seems like the 34 of David Green had a flat tire or got ran into the back of Tim Fedewa (his teamnate) that caused this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kgMzcl9zxc 10. Basically "mapping out" the lines to run. If I were Joey Logano, I would pay very close attention to everything the man has to say. You can't put a value on that man's knowledge. 11. Good finish, and this is why we shouldn't mess with Dega. 16. Scott posted: 12.12.2012 - 1:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I was there.Loved Mike's stage dive after the win! 17. After spending the year 2000 as a back marker with countless bad runs and finishes with equipment not up too par, Mike McLaughlin revived his career by joining Joe Gibbs and competing In The #20 Pontiac. Running at or near the front from the beginning of the year at Daytona to the moment in question, it was great seeing this race take place and it was even greater to see one of the true blue Busch Series only drivers finally get back to victory lane after struggling like crazy the year before. The celebration in victory lane with McLaughlin and crew was, all these years later, a great post race celebration. Magic Shoes came to race in 2001 and it showed on this day along with his season from start to finish. Good stuff indeed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
