Also, a solid effort on the part of Blaise Alexander in his next-to-last start on the circuit, less than two months before his tragic death at Charlotte. 4. b4il3y posted: 08.22.2013 - 3:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Harvick... lol 5. Newman, Harvick and Johnson would become part of the wave of young guns ascending to star status in Cup in the next couple years after this race. 7. Even if Newman led most of the laps, it's still a good example of something we're lacking in today's Xfinity Series. How many established Cup drivers were in this field? I counted 4 (Jeff Burton, Jimmy Spencer, Geoffrey Bodine, and Kevin Lepage); I could have missed someone. I didn't count Kenseth who was just in his 2nd Cup season. But the point is, without a bunch of dominant Cup drivers, the top-5 and, really, the field as a whole gave us a nice mixture of new, rising stars and older, experienced veterans. I guess the truck series sort of does that now, but the Xfinity Series surely doesn't, and that's a shame. 8. rm posted: 12.13.2016 - 10:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To be fair, there were just 3 "established" Cup drivers in this year's Xfinity Michigan race. There were only about 4 or 5 established Cup drivers in MOST of the Xfinity races this year, the problem is they're much more dominant now than they were 15+ years ago. Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson (he should count as established at this point), either Brad K or Logano, either Austin Dillon or Menard, and on occasion Harvick or Junior was in the 88. That's really about it, unless you don't think it's acceptable for a guy like Ryan Blaney or Chase Elliott to dip down - I'd give them a pass since they were Cup rookies this year. I think the problem people have is the established Cup guys are just so dominant when they race in Xfinity. When either of the Kyles raced they were all but a lock this year, and the 22 and 2 were almost guaranteed to finish right around the top 5. Same goes for when Harvick or Junior ran in the 88. NASCAR is taking steps to get some of those aforementioned drivers in fewer races, but as a whole it's a lot better than it was about 10 years ago when you had guys like Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick pulling double duty every weekend and winning races & championships by obscene margins. What you're wishing for is more parity in the field - with all the hotshots from this year's Truck series moving up, there's a very good chance that next year is a lot less predictable in the Xfinity series. 9. Great to see he and the part-time #02 Alltel Ford Penske effort bounced right back from that disappointment to score a dominant win here. 11.
