It was the first time the #3 had been raced since his father's death almost one year before. Joe Nemechek won the pole but exited early. Also, the big wreck starts as Hank Parker Jr. gets in the wall, taking out Tony Raines and Ashton Lewis among 4 others. 2. Right behind him was another rookie, Scott Riggs, who was in his Busch Series debut, finishing 6th. In 2001 Scott finished 5th in Truck points with 5 wins. Kirk Shelmerdine's last Busch start (as of 6/3/2006). 5. While his #49 Jay Robinson Dodge featured SOME sponsorship, there was enough blank space for members of a local comedy TV show to slap their own decal on the car as part of a prank...all captured on video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=XueBE1nkFq4 6. David Green started one on the outside pole and actually had the new Dodge lead its first lap of Busch series compeition. 10. EK posted: 12.11.2016 - 9:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chad Little's #74 was actually a Pontiac. BACE had one of the more aerodynamic Grand Prixs for this race. It's listed as a Chevy on the entry list and on the television coverage but if you watch the race (it's on YouTube), it's clearly a Pontiac. 18. bluegold4 posted: 07.26.2018 - 9:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First caution was an accident not a spin and the 2nd caution also included the 2 of Sauter in addition to McLaughlin 19. bluegold4 posted: 07.27.2018 - 1:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also Amick and Mears were involved in the wreck that brought our the third caution and aren't listed 20. Their first outing here went well as they finished third behind the emotional 1-2 finish for Earnhardt, Jr. and Waltrip but the team lost its primary sponsorship from Visine after the 2001 season and never got a new one to replace it. Reiser's team picked up some small sponsorship from Jani-King to start the new year but it quickly ran out leading the team to shut down before the end of spring. 22. Owner Richard Childress kept the car and displays it in the RCR Museum. Earnhardt, Jr. and Childress' partnership to put the #3 back on track for the first time since Dale Earnhardt's passing was a major story leading up to this race and promoted heavily for what would be a two-race NASCAR Busch Series deal between "Little E," RCR, and cookie company Nabisco. In addition to racing the blue Oreo #3 here Earnhardt, Jr. would race a yellow #3 backed by Nilla Wafers and Nutter Butters at Charlotte in May in the second race of the deal, while Daytona ended in a win the Charlotte race saw Junior crash out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
