After Michael Waltrip flipped on lap 45, and a debris caution on lap 108, the race was red flagged for rain. B4 that Purvis stayed out and took the lead while others pitted. The rain didn't end and it was Brewco's first win 4. Darrell posted: 10.05.2005 - 1:15 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Tim, this wasn't Brewco's first win, Casey Atwood won with them twice in 1999. This was Jeff Purvis' last win however, before he had that crash. 5. Mike Wallace stayed on the track but did not go down pit road until they signaled for one to go and then he came in but they waved off the one to go and Purvis came out on top 6. The Reiser #17 had trouble finding a sponsor, only picking up a little bit from Jani-King and took the rest of the year off. They returned in 2003 with money from Bayer. 7. RaceFanX posted: 03.12.2011 - 10:29 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Waltrip's wreck started when Lyndon Amick spun going into turn 2 and hit the outside backward before rolling down the track where Michael hit the back end of the Dr. Pepper #26 with enough force his #99 Aaron's Chevy got up on two wheels and then rolled onto its roof and briefly skid down the track to a hault. It was very similar to Travis Kvapil's flip in the Kentucky Busch race the year before. Michael Waltrip was unjured in the crash but being a big guy, he's over 6 foot tall unlike most NASCAR racers, he had some serious difficulties getting out of his turtled Aaron's Dream Machine, which did briefly catch fire after the wreck. Waltrip's problems led to him deciding to help with the development of the roof escape hatch that he was among the first drivers to use (although that safety development eventually did not catch on). 10.
