The dominator Bobby Hamilton Jr. had his car have vapor lock on the restart, allowing Keller by for the 3rd win of the year and the reclaimation of the points lead. Also, Johnny Benson's early wreck injures his ribs, leaving him out of a CUP car for til later in the summer 2. Polesitter Jack Sprague got punted back to 12th or so after just a few laps, guys were sliding around, going three-wide...it was like a heat race! As the big wreck on lap 51 began to unfold on the backstretch, Todd Bodine and Jeff Green got together going into turn three in a totally separate incident! Full moon Friday night! 7. Was there an exemption for past champions? 9. Chives5150 posted: 08.04.2015 - 11:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Lyndon Amick's last race in Dave Carroll's #26 Dr. Pepper machine. 10. Was there an exemption for past champions? " Qualifying was rained out. So they filled out the field by owners points then attempts. Now Brian Webber had already made two starts in 02 and should have made the race, but according to the broadcast he mailed his entry form late, and thus was listed as a PE and wasn't eligible for a provisional in this situation. I think the last spot was then given to who ever was highest in 01 owner points (Ted Marsh's team) giving Benson the final spot. 11. Benson's other four scheduled starts were Loudon, Dover (April), Chicago, and Michigan. David Green filled in at Loudon and Dover, and the team ended up not attempting the latter two races. 12. Benson was in based on him being a past champion. In all BGN races at this time (rainouts or otherwise) the last spot went to past champions if necessary, even if they're a cup driver (see Biffle 2004 @ New Hampshire). Cup drivers just couldn't use regular provisionals. I'm not sure what would've happened if a non-champ was in the 31. You see the DNQ list, Ron Young's 71 was ahead of Christian Fittipaldi's 30 in 2001 owner's points but is listed as the 45th qualifier with Fittipaldi being 44th. From bgnracing.com archive: "If qualifying is rained out the starting lineup is set using the following criteria -- 1. Top 35 in points. The first 35 positions are the top 35 in driver points. If any driver in the top 35 is not entered the next driver entered gets into the field until the 35 positions are set. 2. Busch Series Champion. If he's not already in the race, the current NASCAR Busch Series champion automatically gets a spot. 3. Next, any car owner who has won an event this year or in the past calendar year that isn't in the top 35 gets into the field. 4. Any driver who has won at least 1 race this year or in the previous calendar year gets a starting spot. 5. Past Champion -The car owner who has the most recent past champion not already in the race. This must be a driver who participated in the previous year and must have been listed as the driver before the entry deadline. 6. Qualifying Attempts - The next available positions will be assigned to car owners who have made the most number of qualifying attempts during the current year of the Series. In case of ties, ties will be broken by current car owner point standings." Nothing mentions prior year owner's points. 14. KyleBrown posted: 07.01.2020 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To add to my previous post--all the evidence suggests Brian Weber wasn't in his 284 car, that had run several races earlier in the year, but rather his 183, which was the number that ran as his backup car at New Hampshire and Nazareth (even though it was the 8 car, but that's a different story for a different time from someone who knows that Brian was thinking about when he did that). There's nothing in the rules stating post-entries aren't granted provisionals in rain delays. In fact, look at 2001 Dover 1, where Mike Harmon was a post-entry and was allowed to qualify 39th still. I mistakenly thought initially that he was a post-entry for Nazareth 2001 instead due to this potentially misleading piece of information. And this would also explain why he "qualified" last, because that car had no owner's points along with the other DNQs. 15.
