It seemed like Michael Waltrip was the only car that could run w/ Jamie that day. Mikey was catching him but cut a tire down w/ 11 laps to go. 2. Johnny Allen was McMurray's crew chief on the pit box and the broadcast states that Marc Reno spotted for McMurray in this race. Michael Waltrip's crew chief was Bobby Kennedy. David Green's crew chief was Jason Ratcliff. 15. rm posted: 03.28.2020 - 8:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chris Bingham actually had a really good near-miss in this race, narrowly avoiding Robby Benton and Joe Buford's wreck on lap 5. That might be Bingham's career highlight from the NASCAR ranks, though. When pulling away from the wreck, Benton tried to drive back up the track and never really turned, causing Shane Hmiel to lock his brakes up and just ever-so-slightly tap Benton's wrecked car. Scott Wimmer and Kevin Grubb both had to all but stop in order to avoid Benton (and in turn, Hmiel) themselves. Oddly, the FX broadcast barely even acknowledged the run-in happening live on camera, only nothing that Benton was trying to pull away from the scene. Hmiel's day was far from done though. He brought out the second caution about 20 laps later when he spun in turn 4 after an assist from Brian Vickers. And on lap 118, Hmiel collided with Mike Wallace in an accident that knocked both cars out of the race. The incident was fiery - Hmiel's car literally caught fire - and tempers between the drivers ran very hot very quickly. Officials had to pull the drivers away from a physical confrontation, but a TV camera on pit road caught the end of the altercation which included Wallace using some frowned-upon language. Wallace was fined but didn't lose any points, an important matter as he entered the race 4th in the standings following a strong run at Daytona. 16. He won both races at Rockingham in Busch in 2003, and led 318/394 (80%) of the laps in those races. He was a terrible Buschwhacker when he drove for Roush, but won several Busch races in 2003-2004 when he was driving Dodges. 17. rm posted: 03.28.2020 - 9:44 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jamie Mac definitely had Rockingham figured out for a bit. He stole a win in the fall Busch race there in 2002 and qualified 2nd for the Cup race that same weekend. He also finished 5th there in the Cup race in the spring of 03 and came home a very close 3rd behind Kenseth & Kahne in the last Cup race there in 2004. 18.
