Two cars never completed a lap, after about five minutes, eight cars were already out, and after Bobby Hamilton Jr returned to the race, he was able to finish 25th, because so many cars "fell out of" the race. Jerry Robertson ran 1 lap and received $15,050. That's about 30 seconds worth of work. Doing the math, Jerry earned $1,806,000 per hour. The winner, Scott Wimmer, won $91,920, which is an average of $40,047.44 per hour. WOW! It literally pays to be a field filler. 3. As a result, 2002 ASA Champion Joey Clanton scored his only Top 5 in BGN racing. West Coast driver Clint Vahsholtz (18th) collects his best in Busch, as does Tammy Jo Kirk (21st). 5. Didn't think about that race. 9. Mike posted: 02.14.2007 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Clint Vahsholtz's best Busch finish, at his hometown track. 10. If it weren't for the rain, the Nashville 2005 race would have had plenty. 11. WillG46 posted: 09.03.2007 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) How did Jason Schuler lead 11 laps? 12. I think he's the one who led 11 laps. 13. nobody posted: 09.11.2007 - 3:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) FWIW, the 2004 NASCAR Press Guide shows Shuler leading 1 time for 11 laps (laps 33-43). Doesn't sound right, but it's what they say. 14. Mike posted: 10.04.2007 - 12:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is it just me, or do most field fillers only make one or two career starts? (Obviously there are exceptions for guys like Phil Bonifield in the trucks, but, y'know.) This especially seems to be true for the Busch races at fairly remote tracks like PPIR, and for races that are run on the same weekend as Cup races. The reason I mention this is that as of today (10/3/07) 42 of the 43 drivers who started this race have made at least one other start (and the 43rd, Jeremy Clements, will be running at Lowe's in a couple of weeks). Of the seventeen field-fillers in this race (everyone who dropped out before lap 100 except Vickers), 14 have made at least 10 Busch starts, and of the other three (Clements, Wayne Edwards, and Ryck Sanders), Edwards hasn't run much Busch, but he does have 49 truck races to his name. 15. Rick Markle's normal number was 68 and he practiced in this car number. Also, at some point it appears that a number swap took place among the Johnny Davis cars as photos of the field on pit road show the #07 in the position where the #70 is said to have been. http://simracin40.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=busch00&action=display&thread=2257&page=2 24. webmaster posted: 02.03.2010 - 7:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @Kevin: Markle really was in the #68, and that error has now been fixed - thanks! 25. joey2448 posted: 04.12.2011 - 5:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If I'm not mistaken, I believe David Green spun off turn four coming to the checkers....or maybe someone else? Mike posted: 07.15.2016 - 5:45 pm Rate this comment: (5) (0) #33: Pikes Peak was a long trip for a race with a fairly small purse. It was expensive enough for a lot of the smaller teams to make start and parking a necessity sometimes. Some of the cars that parked (the 47, the 61, the 70, the 39, the 07, for example) were extra cars entered by team owners who had cars going the distance. Others (the 94, the 22, the 87, the 67, the 85) were regular S&P teams anyway, and the #91 crashed in practice, didn't have a backup, and was barely able to put enough of a car together to get it on the grid, so they really had no choice but to park. 35. Anthony posted: 09.23.2016 - 9:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Looks like an ARCA race, holy start and park 36. rm posted: 09.23.2016 - 10:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Which is a big reason why they stopped coming to Pikes Peak. Standalone weekend, long trip, small purse and a not terribly exciting track led to NASCAR dropping Pikes Peak. 37. chevyfan98 posted: 09.23.2016 - 5:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) My god, 17 cars out of the race in the first 50 laps. 38. jed posted: 04.11.2017 - 11:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuENIg8UyCc Full race 39. Clements wouldn't make it back to the Busch Series until 2007 as he was sidelined for a while with major injuries from a freak dirt late model accident, racing very sparingly in ARCA in the meantime. Clements, of course, has gone on to become an Xfinity Series mainstay since going fulltime in the series in 2011. 47. RaceFanX posted: 10.15.2020 - 10:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Colorado's own Rick Carelli got the call to do a one-off filling in Mike Wallace in this one, even bringing along his longtime sponsor Re/Max to sponsor the #4 Chevrolet in place of its usual sponsor GEICO. This was the High Plains Drifter's final start in the Big 3 national NASCAR touring series, although he did a few lower level ones after this. In many ways it was also Carelli's only true Busch race as well, the Truck series favorite's only prior start in this series was a deliberate start and park in a backup car field filler here at Pikes Peak five years earlier. Wallace was unavailable due to running a Cup race at Pocono the same weekend. 48.
