If I remember correctly, Brad Teague qualified the 52 car, and Mike Potter qualified the 77 car. For some reason they swapped rides for the race. 4. He asked Brian if it was cool to do a donut with him. For second place?? Busch went on to become a fast, and arrogant, driver. Shoulda seen it coming from this very race lol 9. Paul posted: 12.27.2017 - 11:06 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) By winning this race, Brian Vickers became the first and only non-Cup driver to win the summer race at Darlington in the Busch Series. Jack Ingram, Robert Pressley (twice), Larry Pearson, Randy LaJoie, Matt Kenseth, and Jeff Green each had won the spring race as Busch regulars, but it wasn't until Vickers' win in 2003 that a series regular won the prelim to the Southern 500. Chase Elliott (2014) and Elliott Sadler (2016) are the only series regulars to win at Darlington since. Another interesting tidbit: The top three finishers were Vickers, Kyle Busch, and Michael Waltrip. The combined age of Vickers and Busch was 37. Michael Waltrip's age was 40 years old. The youth movement was certainly on its way to take over the sport. 16.
