Then he comes back and nips Kevin Harvick for fifth. 4. Not only he failed at doing this but he took out his teammate and cost him the title. He would go get a ride anyway in the 47 car the next season What a race. Probably the last time we'll have 6 Busch Series regulars going for the the title in the last race. This is when the Busch Series was at its finest Now for the milestones Last start for the 7 Kleenex team and owner Ed Evans. That team was formed in 2001 with Joe Nemechek and won several races with Randy Lajoie and Greg Biffle More than likely the last race for Greg Biffle in a Chevrolet as of 2009 Last start for Johnny Sauter driving for Richard Childress. He won his first race for him and helped win the Owners title Last start for Jason Keller driving number 57. He had that number since the early 90's Last for the Herzog-Jackson Team. The team won races with Todd Bodine and some guy named Jimmie Johnson lol Last start for Coy Gibbs Last start for Derek Hayes Last start for Scott Wimmer with Bill Davis Racing. Won 5 races for him 12. SoxFan24 posted: 10.26.2009 - 5:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also last starts for Chase Montgomery and Tammy Jo Kirk 13. Anyway this was Kahne's last start as a Yates/Ford dev driver, he was next in line to get a Yates ride in Cup but got out of that in a messy lawsuit after Jason Jarrett rode around in the back in the fall Talladega race in 2003. He replaced Bill Elliott in 2004 and has been driving in Cup ever since. 24. No idea what the driver/number was supposed to be. Speaking of BP, with Wally driving the #89 car this week it was only Alan and Benny in the booth, interesting because they usually brought in a guest commentator for those races. 26. nascarman posted: 02.20.2018 - 2:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) WD: 82 / Randy Lajoie / Jani-King / Terry Bradshaw / Chevrolet From what I found, the primary car was saved from the fire but the backup car, team uniforms, and all tools were destroyed. 27. However, the series was sponsored by Crown Royal. Due to the fact that Vickers would have been 20 the entire season and it's illegal for to use underage spokesmen (US legal drinking age was 21 at the time.), Vickers wasn't invited. 31. LaJoie ran quite well in the replacement race before fading back to finish 13th. 36. Mile501 posted: 12.02.2020 - 11:18 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) While commentating for this race on NBC, Kurt Busch made a comment about how interesting the last race of the season is, because we get to watch 2 races in one (the battle for the lead, and the battle for the championship). With the current playoff format, though, we have lost that aspect of the season-ending race, and the race is less exciting as a result. (Of course, the championship didn't always come down to the final race, but it often did.) I think that is something that NASCAR continually fails to understand. 39. Mile501 posted: 12.02.2020 - 11:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "And Kurt, that's what you're gonna find when you come into the final day of a championship battle and you've got a chance to win. When it's over, you're so exhausted, because there's been so much tension all day long." Benny Parsons made that comment to Kurt Busch at the conclusion of this race, after several of the championship contenders encountered trouble during this race and later rebounded. Kurt himself would experience that exact scenario one year later, as he overcame adversity and narrowly won the first Chase for the Nextel Cup. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
