This race came down to pit stops with a few laps to go. Biffle got on
and off fastest with no mistakes and won even though he had persistent
engine woes and a tube blowing hot air on his face.

Stan Boyd slid on the pit road wall and launched 2 tires that were on
the wall and hit 2 crew members.

I remember this race, watching it with my grandfather, and wonder why
Joe, one was driving a #7, and why he went out so early. Remember my
grandpa laughing at me lol.

The Wikipedia page for "velocity" uses a picture of this race,
specifically Casey Atwood leading a pack of cars in his #14 U.S. Navy
"Accelerate Your Life" Chevrolet, as its lead picture to demonstrate the
concept.

It must be really hard for drivers to race after losing a family member
like that. Props to Robert for keeping his car clean and finishing the
race in 27th place.

51 crew chief - Sammy Ware

Sammy Ware was one of the crew members taken out by the flying tire when
Stan Boyd wrecked on pit road. Yep, he inadvertently took out his own
crew chief - talk about a bad break!

For the sake of completeness, the other crew members that were hit by
the tire were Dan Kolanda and Eric Sainer. Sainer was the most seriously
injured of the crew members and went to a local hospital.
