Martin Truex Jr. held off an early challenge from Ron Hornaday, but set
off in the sunset to win at Gateway. David Green tried to win with late
pit strategy, but finished in 11th, leaving nearly no one to battle Truex.
Notes: Johnny Benson finished 29th. It would be his last race for the
#1. Jay Robinson's #28 made it's first start in the year. Mark Green was
in the top 15 before a wreck for the Yahoo Ford. Kenny Hendrick made his
first BUSCH race of 2004, debuting with the new Gary Keller operation.
He finished 39th. David Starr's 24th place finish would be his final
race for Michael Holigan. Derrike Cope was injured prior to the race.
Josh Richeson took his place for the race.

Carl Long had planned on attempting this race in an unsponsored #01
Chevrolet for Whitaker Racing, but the team withdrew its entry due to
falling "behind on preparation" (per Carl Long's website in the 'past
news' section). The team would attempt the Busch Series race at IRP
later that season, but would also withdraw that weekend as well for
similar reasons.

Derrike Cope qualified the No. 49 car, but was injured in a practice
crash the day of the race. Josh Richeson replaced him for the race.

Derrike did not even make a qualifying lap at all.

Randy Briggs spun coming out of the pits during qualifying and stalled
the car. This embarrassing error pretty much cost the #85 team their
already-slim chance of qualifying.

Greg Biffle was two laps down at one point with a broken axle & hub, the
team was able to repair it enough on pit road to keep Biffle on the
track and out of the garage. It was pretty surprising that the crew was
able to keep working on it little by little from the pits and not lose a
significant amount of time. The team was also lucky that they caught the
issue early enough on so that it didn't wind up being a terminal problem.

12 crew chief - Mike Hillman

Gary Cogswell left the team after Fontana, Hillman filled in for the
week with the Cup series off.
