Busch passed Biffle with 3 laps to go, after Biffle's black flag for misplacing himself on the restart was rescinded. Biffle pulled away but Busch closed in extremly quickly. Notes: Billy Parker finished 24th. After the race he was released. Blake Feese made his BUSCH series debut but wrecked early and finished 41st. Holigan racing closed down after their 32nd place finish. Johnny Benson made his first start since Gateway with Reiser racing. 2. Blake Feese had a fiery crash earlier in the race, but after an anxious few heartbeats the younger and more limber Feese finally popped out and ran away from his car - all still before the safety crew arrived on the scene. Buckshot took a much bigger hit than Feese did and the safety team took even longer to respond to this accident as well. Buckshot finally freed himself after 30 seconds and the fire extinguishers didn't see action until over 45 seconds after the #1 car came to a rest. It might not sound like a lot of time, but that may as well be hours when the car is roaring with fire. The FOX booth had no problem with letting the safety & rescue team have it, admonishing the track workers for the painfully slow response time. Buckshot ran out to the infield grass before crumbling to the ground, going completely limp before being attended to. He certainly was affected by serious smoke inhalation, and it definitely looked like he couldn't breathe by the time the ambulance & its crew made it to the scene of the crash. The blaze wasn't fully extinguished for about 2 minutes, and the Yellow car was now almost completely black instead. The booth declared the slow response time as completely unacceptable, and it's pretty hard to disagree. Poor Buckshot was pretty much left completely on his own to hop out of the inferno and make his way to safety. With no great angle of the wreck available, FOX asked the other driver in the wreck - future Penske standout engineer Travis Geisler - what happened, with Geisler accepting the blame for making a situation 3-wide when it was tenuous enough at just 2-wide. Travis said that Buckshot would be spending a while getting treated while he caught his breath. It was also mentioned that Buckshot almost missed the start of the race, with an accident pre-race forcing him to get stitches on his hand and seriously consider skipping the show. He did eventually made the grid after all, though he may have been better off on the sidelines after all. There was still another fiery incident yet to come, with Clint Vahsholtz going up in flames when his engine spontaneously grenaded in turns 3 and 4. Vahsholtz got out just fine when he finally came to a stop on pit road, but it sure looked like lightning had struck thrice on this night. 13.
