Then, he goes and shoves Dale Jr. into the wall. Leffler should've been 26th instead of 13th. 2. Bill posted: 10.14.2004 - 1:26 am Rate this comment: (2) (5) What was Leffler thinking, he spins Mikey out, than pushes Jr. into the wall. Does he have a death wish pulling stunts like that. And to top it off, he now has a ride with JGR. What next. 3. One of the most exciting races I've ever seen (I was there!)...just wish it would've been a little bit cleaner. 4. CD posted: 10.31.2004 - 4:37 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Congrats to Mike! 5. Why this guy has a Cup ride with Gibbs makes no sense, when we can clearly see that he can't wheel a race car in any series. 7. newman posted: 05.19.2005 - 11:56 pm Rate this comment: (5) (3) wtg leffler! 8. That's what you call an entertaining race. 9. Darrell posted: 10.08.2005 - 3:49 pm Rate this comment: (8) (3) Y'all are right. Leffler should be banned from NASCAR for life for having the nerve to so much as make contact with Junior. The nerve of him. And Kyle, if you think that Leffler can't drive in any series, you obviously never saw his accompishments in USAC. 10. What I don't understand is the one-second penalty for Leffler. Usually the penalty that NASCAR gives is listing the driver as the last car on the lead lap. Also a strong finish for Robert Pressley. 13. Miller4Prez64 posted: 04.30.2006 - 9:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was the first NASCAR race I attentended and it was awesome! NBS 24/7 captured the following witty exchange on the #12's radio: Tim: "Who the hell was that?" Crew chief: "Jeff Spraker." [pause] Tim: "More like Jeff Dumbass." 16. Mikey had the race but Leffler being the idiot that he is spins him out then slams Jr. into the wall, and as a result loses both the race and any reputation he had. 18. kirkyal posted: 06.07.2008 - 2:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The first NASCAR race i saw on TV... instantly hooked... 1st time it came to TV in Scotland!! 19. Evan W. posted: 04.27.2014 - 6:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) Jason Leffler ruined Michael Waltrip's night and Dale Earnhardt Jr. by trying to literally run them off the track, which set up Wallace's run through the fracas and to probably one of the biggest wins of his life. Robert Pressley had the hood up on his Ford on the final pit road sequence, they were dumping water in the car because it was losing water on the last pitstop and he finishes 4th. Earnhardt Jr. and Michael looked like they were going to win this one. Probably the last time that the two looked this strong on the plate tracks(Junior eventually won Talladega later that year) before the competition caught up and Michael and Junior's teams switched on the Cup side which killed the chemistry they had together and that even carried over to the Busch side which helped tremendously running both weekends to get notes, the cars in Cup and Busch were so similar. Leffler is no longer with us, but his aggressive driving that night was very uncalled for. 25. Larry McReynolds explains what the series director told him at the end of Leffler's qualifying run the following weekend in Chicago. That session can be found on YouTube, Leffler is the first car out to qualify. 32. Anonymous posted: 06.09.2018 - 3:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (3) I think that penalty was stupid. It was all because he took that stupid swipe at Junior as Junior was NASCAR's most popular driver due to the last name. Take away the last name and call him Dale Smith, he is a nobody that sits in the back of the pack. 33. JSPorts posted: 06.09.2018 - 3:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Um...what? Anyone who can win 26 times at the Cup level and finish in the top-5 in points multiple times isn't a "nobody." As always with Dale Jr., the haters are just as ridiculous (if not even more so) than the extreme fans. 34. First time I walked in the shop I couldn't believe how EMPTY the place was. I ask Fred how old is this stuff he told me some of it was from the 80s!! Poor Mike Wallace had to drive cars that shoulda been in the junk yard but never heard a complaint. I remember the first race in California we went and said our goal is to finish the race and we did. Watching the Daytona race on tv I shed a tear when Biagi got that win. 35. Land0nFand0n posted: 04.24.2020 - 11:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^never mind, I found it, his quarter panel was too low in post-qualifying inspection. That actually allowed Jeff Spraker to get in the race as the last one on time, and Mike Harmon DNQed because of it. Gus Wasson in the #10 actually blew up during his attempt and had to change engines. 37. rm posted: 05.16.2020 - 9:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kurt Busch had served as a guest analyst for TV quite a few times during this era, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time he was a pit reporter. Kurt was a natural, he didn't sound forced or out of place at all. If you weren't paying close enough attention, you probably wouldn't have even noticed that he wasn't one of the usual pit reporters...and I say that because I didn't even pick up on it until past halfway myself! 38. rm posted: 05.16.2020 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, have to add that it's funny that Mike Wallace - known for being a very strong plate racer who can keep up with the best of them no matter the car he's in - picked up his only Busch series plate win by pretty much just being in the right place at the right time when the wrecks broke out rather than on sheer speed. Mike had been around 5th-6th-7th at the line in the closing laps, but hit the holes as Jason Leffler opened them up and snuck out an unlikely win. Mike can definitely come off as being not very genuine and abrasive rather often, but there was no denying the sheer joy & excitement he showed in his victory celebration. Score one for Mike, the Biagis and all the little guys out there on this night. 39. rm posted: 10.30.2020 - 11:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) David Keith and Larry Hollenbeck appeared in the same race together for the sixth and final time here. Tragically, Hollenbeck and Keith would pass away within two weeks of each other in 2020. 40.
