They both drove through the field for top 10s. 10. As noted, it didn't work out. 12. Kitchens isn't listed among those dropping to the rear in the pre-race graphics either, so color me skeptical on that one. Two of the three DEI-associated cars entered were sent home when qualifying was rained out, and an additional casualty was the 8 crew's firesuits for the over-the-wall group. The team realized they had forgotten to unload the uniforms after the haulers had already left Michigan to head on back to the shop, so they had to employ a backup plan. Most of the crew wound up in extra Budweiser or NAPA uniforms from the Cup haulers, but one of the tire changers had to borrow Martin Truex Jr.'s personal spare KFC firesuit for the weekend - thus making him the only one who had a firesuit sponsor that matched the hood sponsor for the weekend. The white-on-white firesuit also made the tire changer the best-dressed member of the crew in a callback to the traditional crew outfits of yesteryear. 16. Or would that make him a WD? 17. David posted: 12.16.2020 - 2:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Long is listed on NASCAR's starting lineup report for this race, so apparently he was originally entered in the car (if that report is correct) and then was replaced by Kitchens prior to the race. 18. possum posted: 12.16.2020 - 6:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @16, 17 - if I'm not mistaken, the driver of record is the one who first practices the car. If a different driver takes over after that, then it is counted as a driver change. (no idea if that's what happened here, altho I could easily see Long being asked to take a few laps in practice if they were concerned about Kitchen's ability to set up the car). 19. rm posted: 12.17.2020 - 7:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The practice results for the weekend: http://web.archive.org/web/20040823033726/http://www.nascar.com/races/bg/2004/23/data/practice1_speeds.html http://web.archive.org/web/20041210090105/http://www.bgnracing.com/2004/races/23michigan/practice.htm have Kitchens as the one making laps in the #77, but Long makes an appearance as well way down at the bottom in the #107 Ford - which would be the #07 that the team used earlier in the year as NEMCO entered the #7 here for Todd Szegedy...and also a 51st entry not previously noted here. The plot thickens, I suppose. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
