It was the only race the 03 car made in 3 attempts that season. 7. rw posted: 10.30.2017 - 11:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To this day I still remember Kenny Wallace's reaction when Jr qualified on the pole, his head went up faster than you can blink. 8. McLaughlin's run here was initially a one-off but after a solid performance where he qualified in the top-10 and finished just outside it the deal would transition into one to run for the team throughout the rest of the season before he hung up his helmet. 11. rm posted: 12.15.2020 - 8:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) McLaughlin's arrival to Rensi came among some controversy not long after Bobby Hamilton Jr. (Bobby Jr.? Controversial? No, never!) announced that he would keep running his lame-duck 2004 schedule with Rensi. While both Bobby Jr. and the Rensis said that nothing would change in their statuses for the remainder of 2004, the mutual arrangement didn't last very long when Bobby Jr. began making more frequent appearances on the Cup grid in James Finch's Miccosukee car and spending less time in the Busch garage with the Rensi team. The war of words ended in Bobby Jr. replacing Ricky Craven in the Tide ride ahead of schedule in the fall of 2004 while McLaughlin was the new pilot of the Marine-backed Busch entry. Jeff Green was announced as the replacement driver of the 25 car on Wednesday morning, but by end of business McLaughlin's signature was on the namerail instead. McLaughlin pulled out an unlikely 12th in an eventful race that saw him do his best to drive up and over the top of Mike Bliss in the 20 car while checking up to avoid a crash by Robby Gordon, one of four incidents for McLaughlin on the night. 00 sponsor - NetZero 1 sponsor - Yellow Transportation 38 sponsor - Great Clips/Shark Tale 56 sponsor - DuraGloss Greg Biffle got involved in a strange feud with Tina Gordon early on that saw Biffle chop the already-wounded and slow (well, even more slow than usual, somehow) car of Gordon off on the exit of turn 4 and smack the outside wall as a result. When Biffle caught back up to Gordon coming out of turn 2, he appeared to turn her intentionally but promptly found the outside wall himself again when he made contact with Martin Truex Jr. while fleeing the scene of the crime. Truex was an innocent bystander and luckily was able to claw back into the top ten while instant karma relegated Biffle to a trip behind the wall. Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Robby Gordon all pulled triple-duty for the Bristol race week with this race serving as the second leg of their schedule. Edwards won the Truck race with Harvick and Gordon closely behind him as all three drivers scored top fives. Gordon had his luck run out first in the Busch race when he crashed out following a bump from the lapped car of Derrike Cope. Edwards was involved in a couple of skirmishes and came home near the back of the top 20 while Harvick picked up his second top five in as many races. The trio all came up short in the main event, the Sharpie 500, with Gordon pacing the group by finishing 12th. Edwards and Harvick ended the weekend on the sidelines, Edwards due to a crash and Harvick as the initiator of a driver swap. Harvick had his arm go numb during a brutally long green flag run in the Cup race, tapping Kyle Petty to relieve him in a move that infamously led to Dodge levying a widely-panned secret fine upon Petty for driving a Chevrolet for 100-and-something laps. 12.
