First Busch start for West coast standout Eric Norris, son of the actor Chuck Norris, in what appears to be a car sponsored by his father. 11. He started last because something happened to the original driver of the car (one of the Fike brothers I think). They might have gotten hurt in practice but anyway, Hines ran the race, because NASCAR, in order for them to approve the driver eligable for the race, said that the driver must've done some kind of practice in that racing weekend. Hines ran the truck race the evening before. Still, I don't know what happened to the original driver of the 43 but something did!!! 12. The Real Thomas posted: 04.15.2013 - 12:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember the Tracy Hines deal. One of the Fike brothers was supposed to drive the #43, but couldn't for some reason. They were going to get Robby Gordon, but Chevrolet (who he drove for at the time) wouldn't let him drive a Dodge. Then they were going to get Scott Wimmer, but Caterpillar (his sponsor at the time) wouldn't let him drive in the Busch Series. Thus, they found Tracy Hines since he was at the track that weekend running the truck race for ThorSport. 13. Oh wait I forgot, it's Mark Martin. In the eyes of most fans he can't do anything wrong. 14. Braindead Zombie posted: 07.05.2016 - 12:07 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Exactly. Just look at all the people who continue to cry about the 2007 Daytona 500 nearly ten years later and how he was "robbed", yet a lot of these same people throw a fit anytime NASCAR does throw a caution on the last lap of the race for a wreck (though I agree with those people sometimes like this year's Talladega Xfinity race and the 2015 Daytona 500). 15. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 08.26.2016 - 10:48 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) ^No, from what I recall Biffle's car legitimately overheated the engine in this race due to getting a ton of trash stuck on the grille. 17. Anonymous posted: 07.25.2017 - 6:56 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) The 43 had issues during tech and missed practice. Then the car struggled to find speed and pretty much had to let A.J. Fike go. They put Scott Wimmer at first who had decent speed before clauses ousted Wimmer and later Robby Gordon from the car, leading to Hines in the 43. 18. He unretired from Busch series racing to run a few races in 2004 but went winless that season before he won this race the following season. It was his first win in the series that didn't come in that famous Winn-Dixie #60 since his triumph at Myrtle Beach all the way back in 1990. This was Martin's first Busch series start at California Speedway and he ended up in victory lane lane. This would be his only Busch win at this track, he only ran this race three times and finished in the top-10 each time. It would turn out to be the fourth-to-last of his 49 Busch series wins. 19. Menard was finally able to join the field - at the end - after Steve Hmiel himself oversaw the DEI crew's work, while Shane Hmiel couldn't tack on to the tail end of the pack until the field got the 1 to go signal due to a battery change. Not sure who Shawna Robinson's crew chief for the #23 was, but it was not Chris Rice, who had moved from the (unrelated) Bill Davis #23 to the JTG #59 for 2005. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
