Does this mean the driver is going to have to tear down the car himself to make sure nothing illegal is going on? Harsher fines, maybe, and a loss of points ... but a possible suspension of the team ala Junior Johnson after the Winston in '91 with Tommy Ellis filling in for an injured Geoffrey Bodine, the team being suspended for twelve weeks by NASCAR (later pushed down to four by the Stock Car Association that hears the penalty appeals) for an illegal carbeurator ... I don't agree with that. Just my two cents on the incident. 3. If the new revelations on this are true; but they got the carbuerator approved earlier in the race weekend by an inspector who was summarily fired, than this changes everything. I think that Brian France jumped the gun on this one; trying to make a scapegoat out of someone for their new "cheating standards", and they may have taken this one too far. I, for one, hope the disqualification is overturned, but we also have to face the fact that, like it or not, the carbeurator was illegal. What does this mean? I think a monetary fine is in order. Twenty-five points is also a possibility. But the total disqualification is totally bogus. Cheating has made the sport what it is, even if Brian France would love to deny it. Without Smokey Yunick's 7/8th's Chevelle, we wouldn't have modern templates. Without serial cheaters like Junior Johnson and Bill Gardner and their oversized engines, we wouldn't have substantial engine inspection. Without Smokey Yunick's infamous "fuel lines instead of rollbars" cheat, or having an enlarged fuel cell, we wouldn't have significant limits on that, either. And what about Bill Elliott's eleven win season in an undersized car? Not sure what this means ... but NASCAR better re-access this incident and make sure nothing like it happens in the future; cheating, trying to gain an advantage, etc. is part of the sport. Shills -- Jimmy Spencer, for instance, can support the Brian France drabble all he wants; copping down on cheating, etc. until you bring up the fact that his two Cup wins were probably both in cheating Junior Johnson motors. :) 6. That'll be great when he finally breaks into Victory Lane. 7. Miller4Prez64 posted: 05.02.2006 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) This is probably the last win for Akins Motorsports 8. Heck, they won with Blaney at Lowe's this year, so I guess your statement was wrong. 10. Dodge posted: 08.30.2007 - 4:34 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Darrell, you are wrong. That was the last win for Akins. He sold his team to Todd Braun early in 2006. It is listed as Braun Racing now. When Blaney won it was a second car, the original Braun team. That number was 32. So Kahne got the last win for Akins Motorsports. 12. Lets completely DQ these guys and fine a Cup guy 100,000, Roush uses more than 100,000 to wipe with in the morning, lol. 14. Owner Keith Coleman fired her after this race and replaced her with Mark Green in the Vassarette #23 Chevy 15. luigistarted06 posted: 02.16.2010 - 3:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Actually this was Akins last win. In 2006 the #38 team became Braun racing, joining the #32 team. I don't know how much influence Akins had with the team at that point...if any. I believe this was also the race where Tony Stewart was crashed trying to get around the well off the pace car of Stanton Barrett early in the going. In a later interview Stewart questioned Barretts driving talent very harshly, although i'm not sure what his exact words were on him 16.
