Derrike Cope did qualify for this race. 4. It's possible that Cope bought his way into the race, in Kitchens' slot; Cope did start 42nd. 5. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.20.2006 - 11:02 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Michael Waltrip scores his 100th Busch series top 10. 6. Elliott Sadler scored the best finish for Robert Yates' Busch team (2nd). 10. biffle16 posted: 12.30.2006 - 5:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) GET 'EM GREG! 11. Cope's #94 entry was a third Jay Robinson Racing car and when Cope missed the field he took over the #28 from Kitchens. 12. Owner Jay Robinson had three cars attempt to qualify for the race and elected to bump Kitchens for Cope when the latter didn't qualify. 14. ????? posted: 08.18.2011 - 6:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) my first nascar race, and probably one of the craziest races i've ever seen 15. The 2007 Memphis race, at 10 miles shorter than this race, had 11 more cautions to hold the all-time NASCAR record for cautions. 18. rm posted: 12.17.2020 - 9:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 6 crew chief - Ray Evernham They seemed to tiptoe around the details of what happened, but Elton Sawyer's brief stint as a crew chief in between his driving career and his series officiating career came to an end before this race. Nothing quite like having the boss himself calling the shots for you, especially since he very rarely retook that role after leaving Hendrick (though I would swear I remember him occasionally taking that job back up for Erin Crocker a time or two). Kahne certainly lived up to the heightened expectations of the booth early on in this one, prior to some pit crew miscues dropping him back into the hornets' nest that was the middle of the field on a night where track position was king over all else. From there, a choppy race flow and a run-in with Michel Jourdain's battered car - I would call it a modified but mods have more fenders than what Jourdain was rolling around with - doomed his chances of delivering his crew-chief-turned-car-owner-turned-back-crew-chief-for-the-night a victory. The usual jokes about a wild race on a full moon Friday night went too far when Jeff Hammond started howling at the moon during one of the red flags. Wish I was kidding! Last point: the roof number on Jerry Robertson's Furniture Row car was flipped the opposite direction, pointed towards the outside of the track instead of the inside.
