Darrell Waltrip finishes 28th driving the "Dream Machine". 2. Couldn't believe how slanted the coverage was to the Buschwhackers on this one. Kevin Grubb led 20 laps and they avoided talking about the leaders as much as possible, then Harvick passes him and then that was the only thing they talked about. Even if their coverage of DW was limited. 5. Harvick shows that he is an impatient driver again and tried to jump an early restart on clint bowyer and had to slam on the brakes, resulting in johnny sauter hitting Harvick and Tim Sauter pile driving his own brother wrecking the entire front end of his car. Surprisingly Tim was running top 5 and would finish 10th 7. underdogfan posted: 10.09.2006 - 6:35 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) Why don't you people like Harvick? He's not much different from Dale Earnhardt, and he's been called the Greatest ever. Good ol' DW! He's never gonna retire! 8. So the Busch Series will now race at 3 race tracks on which Formula 1 cars have raced: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City (from 1986 until 1992), Watkins Glen International (from 1956 until 1980, when turbos made the track unsafe for F1 cars), and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec (from 1978 to present day). You can see this year's Canadian Grand Prix live on FOX on June 10th. Until I saw the results on this website, I was sure that Travis Miller drove the #72 for MacDonald Motorsports. 11. biffle16 posted: 05.08.2007 - 3:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Win #21 for #21 in race #21. 12. Let's see if he's finally true to his word. One driver who had no word on last races, Ricky Craven. Still, to date, this has been his last NASCAR race. 13. DaleSrFanForever posted: 11.04.2008 - 12:17 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) This race was supposed to be run at night, but they decided instead to hold it at 3pm in the afternoon in Southern Virginia in late July. What a horrible decision. The result was an awful crowd. Who can blame 'em? Luckily it was somewhat overcast and it wasn't BLAZING hot, but it was still hot. The crowd would have been much better at night. But what kills me is the reason why they held it in the afternoon. To help the Buschwackers get back to Pocono earlier. What a bunch of freaking crap!! 14. Brandon posted: 12.26.2008 - 10:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) DW's last race ever. 15. Boy were there a lot of wrecks! I just remember on the 19th and final yellow of the day when Kluever spun, the NBC announcers (Bestwick and Dallenbach) had just made a crack about the number of cautions, and when they saw the pack of cars racing down the backstretch, they totally called it the upcoming spin. 23. There was something of years of anticipation for Darrell Waltrip's start here as Aaron's ran a long series of commercials in which D.W. begged like crazy for his brother Michael Waltrip to let him drive the Aaron's Dream Machine. After years of jokes about it the ad campaign concluded with Darrell finally driving the Dream Machine here. 24. None of the three teams had a backup car ready, so all three teams withdrew before they could participate in either of the official practice sessions.) 26. Paul posted: 02.07.2016 - 2:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) There were eight substitute drivers on-hand for the Cup drivers who were pulling double-duty this race weekend between Martinsville and Pocono. Here's a list of those eight drivers: #2 - Brandon Miller (sub for Clint Bowyer) #5 - Dennis Setzer (sub for Kyle Busch) #18 - Casey Atwood (sub for J.J. Yeley) #20 - Aric Almirola (sub for Denny Hamlin) #21 - Randy LaJoie (sub for Kevin Harvick) #41 - Kevin Hamlin (sub for Reed Sorenson) #60 - David Ragan (sub for Carl Edwards) #66 - Jason Keller (sub for Greg Biffle) Setzer, Almirola, and Kevin Hamlin would qualify their cars as well, resulting in Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Sorenson having to start at the rear of the field due to a driver change. Stephen Leicht was originally going to be in this race, but he was also preparing to make his Nextel Cup debut that weekend at Pocono, so the team decided to have fellow Yates development driver, Matt McCall, drive the No. 90 Busch car at Martinsville, allowing Leicht to focus on the Cup race. 27. I'm not sure that there is another track that NASCAR has returned to on two separate occasions after a decade-plus absence. 36. This event was ultimately a one-off stopgap replacement for the prior event at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, hence why this was a standalone race instead of paired with a Cup weekend. 39. Good move by NASCAR to drop the race, though if anything, they shouldn't've gotten rid of it, and instead replaced it with another track. But, it's NASCAR. They pick and choose. 40. Mile501 posted: 10.27.2020 - 12:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @37 - A July afternoon is also a terrible time to run a race at Martinsville. It was near 90 and humid, which is pretty typical for July. Hopefully, now, it can remain on the schedule during a much better time of the year. 41.
