Great win, and what a long time coming, for Blaney, and a great job by Mike Waltrip taking a back up car with no practice to second. 4. underdogfan posted: 10.14.2006 - 4:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow, that race was nutty! Congratulations to Dave Blaney on his first career win, and to Kevin Harvick on his 2nd championship. 5. How ignorant to leave that opening in the backstretch wall bare! Auggie could have broken his back in that crash! After seeing Jeff Fuller's crash at Kentucky in June, one would think that all racetracks with such an opening would have that filled with the SAFER barrier. It needs to be installed around the entire outside wall and inside wall. And then the scoring error. It took NA$CAR more than 15 minutes to figure out that Carl Edwards was indeed the leader. I could have figured that out in about 15 seconds. Then Casey Mears tried to pass "Flipper" on the ouside, but he got loose and collected the #60 car. Just before then I was thinking, "If anything happens to Carl, Kevin Harvick can (finally officially) clinch the title". Something happened! I think when Matt Kenseth spun out, it just says volumes about Dave Blaney's talent. Matt spun out trying to beat him! Awesome for Dave Blaney! Other Notables: Stacy Compton's first BGN Top 5 since Pikes Peak in 2004 (3rd) Brad Keselowski had a good run going until the Vidovich crash that he was a victim of (34th; :() rookie Danny O'Quinn Jr.'s first BGN Top 5 finish (5th) Tim Sauter fails to qualify on his birthday :( Mike Skinner's first BGN Top 10 since IRP (now ORP) in 2003 (10th) Michael Waltrip's first BGN Top 5 since his win at Nashville in 2004 (2nd) 7. Edwards(1st) & Mears(2rd) wreck. Kenseth (1st/2rd) spins coming to the checkers. 14. Matt posted: 08.21.2012 - 8:51 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This is probably the strangest race that season. Harvick doesn't finish on the lead lap for the first time (yet he still clinches the championship), the leaders wrecked towards the end, and DAVE BLANEY wins the race. 15. 83andJoe posted: 09.14.2013 - 4:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 11th caution: #42,60,50 accident frontstretch 16. 83andJoe posted: 09.14.2013 - 4:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 8th caution Lucky Dog: #32 17. Yeley, Jeff Burton, Reed Sorenson, Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne). And nowadays, people complain about 3-5 Cup stars in the field... It was WAY worse back then. 21. Braindead Zombie posted: 07.11.2016 - 12:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) The thing is the series was much more competitive back then with about 15-20 cars that could win on any given weekend. Hell, David Gilliland won a race with the startup Clay Andrews Racing out of completely nowhere. Nowadays the only drivers that have any remote chance of winning an Xfinity race are Gibbs, JRM, and whatever other cup drivers are in the race. Even the #22 has been off this year. 23. Jamie McMurray crashed during the middle of pit stops for a certain segment of the field with under 20 to go, leaving just a single-digit amount of cars on the lead lap, including several lesser-heralded teams (Blaney, Waltrip, Compton, O'Quinn). Between the wreck and some alternate fuel strategies, that's what set up the bizarre finishing order. Casey Mears was leading in the closing stages of both Busch races at Lowe's in 2006 but only had a 4th place in the spring & a wrecked racecar here in the fall race to show for it. 26.
