He also came from the middle of the pack to come up and win. 2. Juan Montoya posted: 03.05.2007 - 3:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Congratulations Juan Pablo! This was an incredible performance!!! I am looking forward to many more wins! 3. Anonymous posted: 03.05.2007 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't think JPM should have made that move that soon. Just seconds before the contact, I thought, "He's got more than 60 opportunities (one for each turn) to get by Pruett; I hope he picks the right one." Well, as he should have been, he was apologetic in victory lane. I hope his car didn't fail inspection after he stood on the roof! I feel terrible for young Brad Coleman. He qualified strongly, and kept the 18 car in the Top 10 all day long, and then the transmisson failed. Is this run a sign of things to come? Marcos Ambrose: best BGN finish (8th) Carl Edwards: takes the point lead, and probably won't give it up (4th) Adrian Fernandez: best finish (9th) Jorge Goeters: best finish (7th) Kyle Krisiloff: best finish (16th) Jason Leffler: best road course result (6th) Juan Pablo Montoya: first non-American since Ron Fellows to win in NASCAR Scott Pruett: despite his spin, he got his first Busch Pole and Top 5 (5th) 4. Marcos Ambrose has a career best finish. Brent Sherman and Kyle Krisiloff have solid top 20's. Regan Smith was running 5th when he took the white flag but had some kind of trouble in turn one and blew a tire, and finished 26th. 6. b4il3y posted: 03.06.2007 - 12:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) The coverage of the race really turned into something that I didn't think ESPN would do..and make it a one man show. Yes, Montoya has talent, and he will be a good driver. However, the fallout will be ugly, and I'm sure today's meetings at Gannasi racing was something to behold. 7. Fitz posted: 03.06.2007 - 7:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yay, Juan Pablo! Viva Juan Pablo! The 1st ever Latino driver to win an overall nascar race, baby! And not to mention the 2nd overall minority driver (since African-American Wendell Scott in Dec. '63) to win an overall nascar race! This is the sign of the times, man! Sign of the times! 8. Anonymous posted: 03.06.2007 - 10:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) First Busch Series top-10 for Marcos Ambrose, and he was involved in an incident late in the race with JJ Yeley which dropped him back to 24th. He then made up 7 spots in the GWC to finish 8th. 9. Darrell posted: 03.06.2007 - 1:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree. The Juan Pablo show got very old, very fast. At least he lived up to the hype, unlike other pre-hyped drivers. (Danica *COUGH* Patrick) Ah well, better him winning than Denny Hamlin or Carl Edwards. Stephen Leicht had a great run going on his first road course race in NASCAR. I guess his car had a problem or something, but he was right up there in the top-ten towards the end of the race. 10. Thomas posted: 03.06.2007 - 6:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I thought I remembered seeing Leicht spin out near the end. Anyway, The Juan Show was no worse than the JeffJimmie show in the Cup series. Either one of them could be running 23rd and still get press coverage. At least Montoya won the damn thing, and was competitive all race long. Also, call me the devil's advocate, but it looked to me like he did nothing wrong when he made contact with Scott Pruett. It looked like Scott was going to give him the inside line, but changed his mind at the last minute and Montoya didn't anticipate it. 11. Anonymous posted: 03.06.2007 - 8:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Again, your hate for drivers blinds you. JeffJimmie Show? Really? Please, give me more info as I haven't seen this yet. BTW, how is the best team in the history of racing (Roush-Fenway) doing? 12. Jacksonedb posted: 03.06.2007 - 10:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thomas, it doesn't really matter how it happened. It just matters that it did happen. Juan had, as Anonymous stated, more than 60 chances to pass Pruett, but instead pulled a stupid move and took out his teammate. It would be fine if he had done it on the last lap, but not with nine to go. I think if there where three more laps, Pruett would have driven his heart out and maybe try to take out Juan. But that never works, because no one ever took out an Earnhardt or a Stewart on the last lap, either. 13. Jacksonedb posted: 03.06.2007 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) On another note, check out the points! Blaney's third! Ambrose is sixth! Sherman is 10th!!!!! Reutimann, Wood and Smith seem to be having good seasons too. And, Montoya went from out of the top 20 to 14th with a dominating win, a 39th, and a 40th. 14. canadianfan posted: 03.06.2007 - 11:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) J.R. He did not enter the race. :) 16. Anonymous posted: 03.07.2007 - 2:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Regan Smith had a great run going all day in the No. 4 and he was running 5th at the white flag. I saw his car in a cloud of smoke as it entered turn one and they never followed up on what exactly happened to him. They said he went through the corner and got back on track without losing too much. Did he have a mechanical problem? 17. He was involved in or a victim of something that started near Greg Biffle and Shane Huffman, who were also in the Top 10 or 12. And Brent Sherman was in the Top 10 in points! The past 2 years have been ROUGH for him; didn't impress in the Busch Series, and got promoted to Nextel Cup too early. And biffle16, I hope that smiley face about Harvick's streak ending is only because he's a Buschwhacker. 19. At least he had time to come back through the field, and make up some ground. 22. Shane posted: 08.02.2007 - 11:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) mcmurrayfan...thanks for pointing out Regan Smith's great run that ended in bad luck...not sure if i t was a tire or if he locked the brakes up and cut the course which is why they penalized him/fell back that far, i did see the smoke. On another note, i agree with most of the people here about Juan/ESPN. If Juan continues to drive like this, you'll see him getting out of alot of crumpled cars in the future, you ahve to earn respect in NASCAR, and i think he's got less now than when he started. 23. I said JPM was the first non-American to win in NA$CAR; that's not entirely true. In 2006 Busch East rookie Ruben Pardo (Mexican-born) won at Lime Rock Park. He also debuted with a 41st place finish in BGN. 25. Sean posted: 01.29.2008 - 2:12 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) He wasn't even the first non-American to win in Cup: Earl Ross - Canada Ron Fellows - Canada has won in Busch and trucks. Francisco Menendez (Frank Mundy) is of Hispanic origin, but I don't know whether he was born here or not. Mario Andretti was born on Italy, which everybody seems to forget, even though he represented the US in competition. 26. The Spanish coverage was alright, probably better than the English judging by the comments, although I only watched a little bot of it since I don't speak Spanish. The Spanish coverage even had their own exclusive "In-race Reporter" in Carlos Contreras. 27. You may remember John if you were following the Craftsman Truck Series back in 2000, when he was tabbed to drive Bob Brevak's #31 Ford for the full season and contend for Rookie of the Year honors, but saw those plans fade away when he was diagnosed with leukemia that March. After a month away from the track, John went on to race six more times that year (posting a top-10 at the road course in Portland) before stepping away from the driver's seat to focus on his recovery. I had admittedly forgotten about Young and his story over the years, and it was only in searching for information about him today that I realized he had not only beaten his cancer, but made a return to the "top-three" divisions here at Mexico City. Great to hear, especially coming out of the somber saga that was the 2000 NASCAR season (ironically, the late Tony Roper was Brevak's first driver after he decided to hand over the steering wheel and focus on ownership of his team). 28. Ridiculous. Also, there is the caution for Marcos Ambrose's spin (caution #4). That certainly wasn't necessary. Marcos spun and got it going...no need for the yellow. 32. RaceFanX posted: 11.22.2012 - 11:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This will likely be Juan Pablo Montoya's only Busch series win, 2007 was the only season he ran in the series with any regularity (he made two more starts in 2008 and none to date since). 33.
