I know they only had to put up with a few, but this race to me is how the Busch Series stacks up if they didnt allow Buckwhacking. Stephen, Coleman, Wimmer, and Huffman make it 4 out of the top 5. The real surprise was Kelly Byers. This kid has run well in Trucks, but this was a great run for him. 4. Darrell posted: 06.18.2007 - 1:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Go Leicht!!!!! I normally don't like seeing Fords win, but I have tremendous respect for the Yates organization and all its drivers. Also, props to Steve Wallace for racing hard against Carl Bigheadwards. Karma. Morgan Shepherd's wreck may have put him out of business. I feel a little bad for him, but I can't say I'm too sorry considering how many teams he's bumped out of a race, only to park it with in 20 laps. NA$CAR, I hope you're taking notes on this. THIS is the kind of Busch racing we like to see! 5. He is on the entry list for Milwaukee though, so hopefully all is not lost. 8. It's nice to know he didn't let me down. I have to wonder how long NASCAR will allow him to endanger both himself and others on track. Stephen Leicht has been knocking on the door since Charlotte and his performance has been consistently improving. Yates has stuck by him when a lesser team (see Kevin Harvick) would've probably dropped him. When it counted, he had that little bit extra at the end to drive by Coleman and Wimmer for a much deserved first victory. Although I know that the Geschickter car is aligned with the Wood Brothers and they have been grooming Jon as their heir apparent since he first broke in with Roush in the Truck Series, I have to wonder how he can allow Jon to get back in the car considering how Kelly has performed at Nashville and Kentucky. Regardless, here's hoping that Jon can get his medical problems sorted out (I honestly am wondering if it's more psychological or confidence related). 10. Darrell posted: 06.20.2007 - 8:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Does Steve Wallace ever think?" I know. Heaven forbid someone should race aggresively against an almighty Rou$h driver. Let's all just stand back and let them win every week. 11. Anonymous posted: 06.20.2007 - 11:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This race shows how much Busch whacking has hurt the series. The regulars who are normally mid-pack got a chance to show their true talent. You have to wonder how much different it would be for drivers like Burney Lamar and Mark McFarland if they didn't have to race against 20+ Cup drivers every week and eventually loose their rides. Overall this was a step in the right direction. Six Busch whackers in the top 15 is still too much. 12. Darrell posted: 06.21.2007 - 1:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm surprised biffle16 hasn't come by yet saying the race was fixed, Steve Wallace is a no-talent, and I'm immature. ;) 13. biffle16 posted: 06.21.2007 - 5:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (4) Actually, Darrell, I was grounded by Mommie Dearest and couldn't be on the computer. But yes, I will say all of those things. ;) Leicht wouldn't have won if Steve-O hadn't dumped Carl on a restart. I don't understand what his problem is with Roush drivers. Luckily, the crew got the car fixed, and he was running at the finish. That's what wins championships!!! Great comeback by Greg in 10th. 14. Rusty posted: 06.23.2007 - 3:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm suprised nobody mentioned that Regan Smith hit a bird during his qualyifing run, and he still had the pole! lol! He also had the best car but pit problems lost him the race, and stop being so hard on Steve Wallace, he's 19 years old and has a ton of talent, he just needs to learn how to race patiently. 15. The Real Thomas posted: 06.26.2007 - 4:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was the best Busch series race in a very long time. Congratulations to Stephen Leicht on his first win. Victory Lane with his dad was emotional. Also, congrats to Houston native Brad Coleman on his good run. Always good to see a hometown boy do well. To answer the previous question, Steve Wallace does not think at this point in time. He just needs to grow up and learn some patience and he'll be a good driver. On a side note, Carl said the wreck was more his fault. So who's the mature, coolheaded one here? 16. Plus, incredible run from Kelly Bires in one of his first starts. 17. CFob posted: 11.04.2009 - 10:26 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Sad how things work. David Gilliland wins this race in 2006 and immediately gets a Cup ride. Stephen Leicht wins the same race a year later and in 2009 still hasn't gotten his true opportunity at the top. 18. numbah10hatah posted: 12.21.2013 - 5:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brad Coleman's best career Busch Series finish. 19. 28DaveyAllison28 posted: 02.03.2016 - 4:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Top 5 finishers of this race are no longer no where on the NASCAR scene anymore. Maybe six or seven if Yeley or Bliss find something this year which is likely. 21. Tyson posted: 02.03.2016 - 5:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To add to both of the comments above, by my count, only 13 drivers in this race ran a NASCAR race in the top-3 series in 2015. 22. Paul posted: 02.07.2016 - 5:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) There were eight substitute drivers on-hand for this race in order to accommodate the drivers who were pulling double-duty this weekend between Kentucky Speedway and Michigan International Speedway. Here's a list of those drivers: #1 - Chad Chaffin (sub for J.J. Yeley) #6 - Auggie Vidovich (sub for David Ragan) #10 - Chad Blount (sub for Dave Blaney) #22 - Carlos Contreras (sub for Mike Bliss) [Contreras was also driving the No. 44 Fitz Motorsports car, which was a start-and-park entry.] #37 - Casey Atwood (sub for Greg Biffle) #41 - Scott Lagasse, Jr. (sub for David Stremme) #60 - Matt McCall (sub for Carl Edwards) #99 - Mark Green (sub for David Reutimann) The substitute drivers were only used for the practice sessions. All eight double-duty drivers were able to qualify and race their cars; six of whom also participated in the second/final practice session. (Yeley and Biffle didn't turn any practice laps at Kentucky.) What's also interesting is that Denny Hamlin was on the entry list as the driver of the No. 20 car, but Aric Almirola drove the car all weekend. I'm not sure if Hamlin was supposed to drive the car and a change was made the weekend of the race, or if it was just a mistake. Of course, we all know what happened the next weekend at Milwaukee... 23. that e-guy posted: 09.01.2016 - 8:35 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) I was at this race. Spent a lot of the day outside getting a bad sunburn and by the time we walked through the parking lot and up the stands to our seats I was so red that my friends thought I was about to have a heart attack. I must have drank at least a gallon of water during the race, and the other thing I remember is that after the race heading back towards Ohio there was an accident which stopped traffic for quite a long time, as if the day hadn't been long enough at that point. 26. that e-guy posted: 09.01.2016 - 9:33 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) I had to go to the infield care center because I was dry heaving and felt like throwing up. 27. Overall NASCAR's lower tours have done better at retaining drivers than some others. Compared to GP2 no one from its 2007 season is still racing the series or Formula 1 (although many are doing well in sports car racing or other European series like DTM). Sebastien Buemi, Lucas di Grassi, and Adam Carroll are all in Formula E and Mikhail Aleshin is in the IndyCar but I don't think anyone else is even still racing in major open wheel series. 31.
