Not an extra test session for the Rou$h or Gibbs boys. Awesome runs for Kevin Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, and Brian Keselowski. First career start for Deac McCaskill. 2. Hope Ron Hornaday's Tire changer is allright. Can someone tell answer this ?, Morgan Shepard seems to only run about the first 30 laps of the race before he retires, is he being Black flag by NASCAR for being too slow or is he willingly retireing???? 9. Even the Spyker Formula 1 Team are trying their hardest to try to score points (even though it probably won't happen). 12. Good news about a UNC-Charlotte grad who worked as Team Rensi's head engineer in hopes of landing a ride in the major divisions, and whose driving skills were lauded by the late Bobby Hamilton. 16. Paul posted: 06.13.2013 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (6) (0) Jason Leffler often referred to IRP as his "second home." He won 7 USAC races at IRP, including five National Midget wins and two Silver Crown wins. In NASCAR, he made his Busch Series debut at the track back in 1999, made his Truck Series debut at the track in 2000, won the pole and earned his first Busch Series top five finish at IRP in 2000, finished 2nd in the Trucks race back in 2002, finished 3rd in the Busch race in 2004, won this race in 2007 to score Toyota's first ever Busch/Nationwide Series victory, and finished 6th in the final Nationwide race at IRP in 2011. I just finished listening to MRN's replay of this race in tribute to the late Jason Leffler, and I found myself cheering for him while listening on my laptop, already knowing the result beforehand. As much as I would have loved to have seen Jason win another NASCAR race, it's almost appropriate that it was at this track that he scored his final NASCAR victory; a track that he had so much success on, whether in an USAC car or a NASCAR truck/car. Rest in peace, LEFturn. 18. Anonymous posted: 06.13.2013 - 2:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) RIP 19. Here's a list of those drivers: #1 - Kertus Davis (sub for J.J. Yeley) #6 - Erik Darnell (sub for David Ragan) #10 - Mike Bliss (sub for Dave Blaney) [Blaney decided to skip the Busch race, so Bliss drove the No. 10 car in the race as well. Josh Wise took over the No. 22 car, which Bliss was originally supposed to drive.] #16 - Todd Kluever (sub for Greg Biffle) #29 - Brandon Miller (sub for Scott Wimmer) [Wimmer was driving a 4th RCR car for the Cup race at Indy.] #60 - Travis Kvapil (sub for Carl Edwards) #99 - Mark Green (sub for David Reutimann) All seven substitute drivers participated in both practice sessions, with six of them also participating in the qualifying session. (Greg Biffle was the only double-duty driver to qualify his car at IRP.) There was talk before the race that J.J. Yeley and/or Carl Edwards would skip the Busch race. Yeley entered this race ranked 12th in the standings and had already skipped a race earlier in the season, and Edwards suffered a dislocated thumb in a late model crash at I-80 Speedway the previous weekend. Plus, Edwards was entering this race with an impressive 852-point lead. Both drivers would ultimately compete at IRP. 21. It's criminal IRP isn't on the schedule right now. I mean the atmosphere the second I opened this video at the track was incredible. I loved every second of it. I don't know if they still allow this but watching the fans in the grandstands as well as the grass slope in turns 1 and 2 with their lawn chairs and blankets was absolutely vibrant. And not only that, the race lived up to the atmosphere! Beatin'and bangin' off one another as the lights went up and the fans slowly inched closet and closer to the catch fence. Seeing Jason win that sure touched my heart, and it broke it a little when I saw such a happy little guy climb out from his race car that looks like it was in a demolition derby and smile his face off. Miss you Jason. 26. rm posted: 04.08.2020 - 12:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Not enough fans they'd have to spread out onto the hill these days. Not a ton of races on the oval anymore, don't think there's much more touring-series events beyond sprint cars and ARCA, and having been to a few of those I think there's been more people in the pits than in the stands for those races. Sad really. The NHRA's supposed to be setting aside a lot of money for improvements to the oval facility, but they've been saying that for a couple years now with no progress. I doubt the current situation is going to help that at all. Hard to imagine that any race at the oval will ever look like this again, unfortunately. 27. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 04.08.2020 - 7:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "The NHRA's supposed to be setting aside a lot of money for improvements to the oval facility, but they've been saying that for a couple years now with no progress." Either it is ignorance or what but it seems the people forget that the NHRA controls the oval. The last time i saw ARCA race there the place looked like a dump. The track would be better in NASCARs hands but i highly doubt the NHRA would sell it. Would rather let it rot. 28.
