Good run for Greg in 11th. Carl 32nd. :( 2. The Real Thomas posted: 08.15.2007 - 10:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Half-ass Harvick! That's pretty clever! 3. The once highly-touted NCTS ROY and prospective replacement for Mark Martin was moved aside in favor of David Ragan and promptly disappeared from the radar. 8. Gillett, Jr. announced the creation of Gillett Evernham Motorsports (GEM), a partnership combining Evernham Motorsports [#9, #10, #19 teams] and the Gillett family where Evernham will remain a substantial owner and retain the title of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The strength of Evernham's championship on-track performance and Gillett's off-track sports business experience creates a high-performance, high-energy platform to establish GEM's value and appeal to fans and sponsors, on and off the track. Recognizing that the rate of change off-track has exceeded the change on-track in the past few years, Evernham forged a relationship with Gillett, whose diverse holdings offer unique business-to-business opportunities, sponsorship activation and fulfillment that will revolutionize what sponsors can expect from a NASCAR team. Gillett is the owner of the Montreal Canadiens National Hockey League (NHL) team and a co-owner of the Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League. Gillett's other business interests include the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens and Gillett Entertainment Group (GEG), producers of some 700 sporting and entertainment events in numerous venues throughout Canada and the United States. GEM will benefit from Gillett's existing network of sports and entertainment properties, resorts, auto dealerships and auto franchises offering unique access to sponsors and partners and a powerful global connection that no other team can offer. 'It's very exciting for me to deliver to sponsors and fans the opportunity to align with a worldwide sports leader,' said Evernham, CEO of GEM. Â"With the business acumen of the Gillett family and its sports brands, we've greatly expanded our reach. This will allow me to focus on our racing operations and team performance, while the Gillett family will focus on our business operations. It certainly allows us to capitalize on our strengths and position GEM for long-term success both on and off the track.' 'Racing is in my blood,' said Gillett, chairman of Booth Creek Management Corporation (BCMC). 'It's not often you get to partner with a leader with Ray's reputation, talent and championship legacy.' The transaction was initiated and negotiated by Matthew Doherty at McLaren Capital Partners in Los Angeles. Wachovia Securities advised BCMC.(Gillett Evernham Motorsports-GEM PR)(8-6-2007) 13. Roush Racing released him at the end of 2007 citing the lack of sponsorship for him to race for the team in 2008, a sad ending to a relationship that once saw them lining up Kluever for Mark Martin's Cup ride. His only entry after this one was a DNQ at Memphis in 2009. Greg Biffle, who had been largely splitting time with Kluever in the #16 Ford throughout the 2007 season to this point, drove the car for most of the season from here on out. 17. Mannoroth posted: 05.28.2019 - 12:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) 17. Wrong, because Paul Menard wasn't any Cup leech in 2007 due to the fact he didn't run the full Cup schedule for the title. 19. Mile501 posted: 05.28.2019 - 5:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 - Menard actually did run the full Cup schedule in 2007 and competed for Rookie of the Year. But he failed to qualify for 6 races as 2007 was extremely competitive in terms of new teams trying to qualify for races. 20. GoPM21 posted: 05.28.2019 - 7:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 You're wrong. Paul attempted every race in 2007. 21. Attempted, but did not start. That doesn't make him a Cup leech, because Cup leeches are only those drivers that run full schedule in Cup and will get into every race. Plus, Menard already failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 that is the very first race of the season, so his status of Cup leech ended before it even started... 23. TeamDCRfan posted: 05.28.2019 - 12:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) NASCAR considers a team and driver full time until they don't show up at all. In 2013, Phil Parsons Racing was planning a full schedule, but they were forced to withdraw from Phoenix, race #2, and the 98 lost its "consideration" as full time team, despite the fact that they showed up for almost every race for the remainder of the season. This would ultimately hurt the team when the charters were introduced, as the 98 (now run by Jay Robinson) did not have a charter. 26. Mannoroth posted: 05.28.2019 - 12:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 24. I know, just look at his 2009 or 2010 season... I'm just saying that 2007 doesn't belong into the same category, because he missed those 6 Cup races. There are just some exceptions - take a look at Ross Chastain, for example. Yes, he runs the full Cup schedule, so he should be a Cup leech as well, but he's lucky that since 2011, you have to choose a series, where you will score points. He chose Xfinity and that's why he's not a Cup leech, either. If he was running for points in Cup, he would be on the same level as Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and many other Cup leeches despite the fact his Cup performance is horrible comparing to them. 27.
