Everybody knew that there was a strong chance of rain, yet it's pathetic how under prepared everybody was. Instead of wasting so much time messing around, they could've been racing. Once all that was over though, it was good racing. Villeneuve and Fellows had a great battle early on, while Ambrose just dominated. He had this race in the bag. If they had've gone back to racing, Ambrose would've won. But oh well. It's heartbreaking, but thats racing. 3. Jacques Villeneuve and Joey Logano crashed under caution in different incidents when the rain came pouring down. 5. Thought it would be exciting with the rain, but things seemed to go easier and no one was as agressive. Looks like a bore compared to last year. 7. WallaceFan posted: 08.02.2008 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Give it up for my man Steve Wallace on what i consider the best week of his career. 10th place finish, but that give showed alot this week. His transmission exploded during happy hour, and his drive shaft came up into the cockpit and severly bruised his leg. They rebuilt the whole car, and he qualified 8th. BUT he had to start 40th because of the engine change. By lap 8 he was already in the top 25. Great run for him. He seems to be a real good road racer. (Also 10th at Mexico) 8. Rusty posted: 08.03.2008 - 1:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It was neat seeing a NASCAR race in the rain, but NASCAR called it early and Ron Fellows returns to victory lane in NASCAR for the first time since 2001. 11. b4il3y posted: 08.03.2008 - 3:53 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Today we saw who has some raw talent as a driver. Everyone had to adapt to a totally new situation for NASCAR, the rain tire. Not surprising, the ringers had a better time of it. However, the racing was good on this level: The drivers did adapt, and adapted well. I know a lot of people are going to comment and say how horrible it was, and that's to be expected. But, for the first time for the rain tires, I'd say it was a success. There wasn't a wreck every lap, and the drivers (for the most part) did not drive over their heads. It was definitely different and fun, especially Carl trying to dry off his windshield during a caution. I'll only say this about the race in general: Ambrose had the field covered until his speeding penalty. If the race went the distance on the rain tires, he would've ran away with it. He has had experience in Australia racing heavy cars on rain, and it showed. 12. Darrell posted: 08.03.2008 - 7:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The race itself was epic, but it would have been better if the standing water hadn't played an issue. Ambrose dominated, but a costly mistake kept from contending at the end. 13. Dodge posted: 08.03.2008 - 8:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) My personal opinion and I know I will get attacked for it, but I believe NASCAR wanted Ron Fellows to win and they knew they weren't able to go much longer so they made a marginal call on Ambrose. The thing I don't like is that you get the regulars that run the whole year, and then when there is a road course then you get a bunch of driver that appear to have NO talent for ovals so they don't even try an oval race. I wish NASCAR would come up with a rule saying the only waya a road ringer can enter a race is enter a couple of ovals OR instead of them taking a regulars ride, make the ringers OWN their own car. 14. gü posted: 08.03.2008 - 8:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Even though the pace was slow it was interesting because it was the first race in the rain. Ambrose would have deserved to win. 15. Destiny posted: 08.03.2008 - 10:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) A great debut by Wheeler Boys, the son of Trevor Boys. DaleSrFanForever posted: 08.03.2008 - 10:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) I agree with AmbroseFan, it was frustrating at first as they stumbled around trying to get changed over in the middle of the race, but it was a lot of fun to watch once it got started. Like the announcers said, I was expecting a disaster, but the drivers did great. That just shows how truly talented they all are. Big time congrats to Ron Fellows. He is a good guy and deserves it. To see him so choked up after winning a race on a track named after his racing idol was a great moment, and a great break from the corporate sponsor driven jibberish we usually hear. A rare moment of real emotion. Ambrose has to be sick. He had 'em covered. But he hydroplaned into the pits and then took off too early. In his defense, he has a point about the exit. In the event of rain and poor visibility, they should have better marked the exit. But it didn't matter. With Fellows' pit strategy, he wouldn't have won anyways. And also a shout out to the Canadian fans for their support of this event by coming back for another year (unlike the Mexico City fans). They deserve that event. 17. I was reading some comments from a reporter from a site devoted to the Nationwide Series and he said that none of the fans in Montreal left their seats when it rained and that they were a loud and passionate bunch of fans. 18. I can't believe how few spins and crashes there were. I can believe how crappy ESPN was by not having replays of any of the crashes they did actually have. It is so unfair to Stremme to lose out to a pathetic talent like Wallace just because he's the son of a Nascar great. 25. Dodge posted: 08.05.2008 - 10:54 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Baker: The reason they did that is that Stremme originally signed a PART-TIME deal. He was only supposed to run the companion events, a minority driver named Chase Austin was supposed to driver the rest except the road courses and that's where Max Papis comes in. The only thing that has changed is that Austin probably won't get a chance at a Nationwide race at all this year. 26. Carl Edwards was the only one to qualify inside the top-28 (18th). None of the four substitute drivers ranked inside the top-10 during either practice session. Chris Cook, the only ringer of the four, ranked 12th in both sessions. Patrick Carpentier, who had attempted every Cup race up to this point in the season, skipped the Pocono race in order to focus on Montreal. Carpentier ranked 4th in both practice sessions, qualified 4th, and finished 2nd. Terry Labonte drove his No. 10 Cup car that weekend. 47. Marcos Ambrose passed him on the restart once this became a wet race and Pruett never regained the lead. Pruett ran in the top-5 for most of this race until the closing laps despite the fact the windshield wiper on the #40 Fastenal Dodge failed, causing the windshield to start fogging up. He pitted from fourth during the last round of pit stops (just a few laps before the rain got heavier and ended the race) but the long pit stop resulting from having to repair the wiper dropped him well down the running order. 50. And, a lot of the drivers were complaining their windshields were fogging up and they were having a hard time seeing. I think NASCAR figured that after 3 hours they'd given the fans their money's worth and they might as well call it a day. 57.
