chris, it is not first lead lap finish in Nascar. He finished on the
lead lap in 2003 for the 2003 Koolerz 300 at Daytona.

It's been a long time, but it wasn't his first. He finished on the lead
lap in this race in 2003.

Hell of a job by Tony hanging on to it when Kyle whacked him in the
corner. A pretty good race overall.

I thought the 5 lap penalty against Jason Leffler was bogus. I don't
like Jason, I think he causes too many wrecks, but that looked like a
racing deal to me. And for S**** W****** to get that angry and throw
something at him is ridiculous too. He probably would have wrecked on
his own eventually anyways.

Of course ESPN continued their coddling of him. How many times did they
point out that it wasn't his fault. Over and over again. It is such a
conflict of interest having Rusty as part of the broadcast team.

Jason Leffler was penalized five laps by NASCAR for rough driving after
he wrecked Steve Wallace going into turn 3. The wreck also took out
Scott Lagasse Jr. and Justin Allgaier. Not the first time Leffler has
done something stupid at Daytona (see 2004 Winn-Dixie 250).

For the second day in a row, Kyle Busch took the white flag in second
and couldn't sucessfully make a winning move.

First time in Nationwide Series history that car #80 has won a race.

I hear you DSFF,though you can't really blame Steve for being angry,it
really was just a racing deal.Certainly not worthy of a five lap
penalty.....

.....than yet again this is NASCAR,so we shouldn't really be
surprised.If Jason Leffler needs advice on how handle being screwed by
the "sanctioning body" he should just ask Regan Smith.


Also,is there any team Tony Stewart CAN'T win with.The man is on fire!!!

I too agree about the stupidity of that penalty on Leffler, reminds me
of the Gilliland Montoya incident at Texas last year. Where was the
penalty on Stewart when he admitted to wrecking Kenseth in the 2006
Daytona 500? Or the 2006 Pocono race where he flat out wrecked the 07
and 99?

Oh, I forgot, he drove for NASCAR's official Home Improvement Warehouse
so he's above the rules.

The reason why Jay Robinson is listed as owner of he 09 is that the 09
bought the owner points of the 4 last year so that is why the confusion.

Not the best race, last 20 laps were pretty exciting.
Steve had a great run untill Leffler spun him out, collecting the 11 and
12. Dont believe Leffler did it on purpose, 5 lap penalty a little out
of hand.
Hopefully well see another great run out of the 66 at Cali.

O_O Does he really believe Steve is ready for cup...he wasn't even
halfway ready for Busch/Nationwide.I can just imagine the outcry and
epic butthurt that would erupt if he were to get into a wreck with
Tony,JJ,or Jeff Gordon....and let's not forget the fact that there's no
love lost between Steve and "The Wild Thing".

I was so excited that Stewart won @ Daytona AGAIN. I wish he wins the
Daytona 500 by his 19th try. On th last lap, Kyle Busch got Stewart
loose & I thougt Kyle was going to pass him but he didnt. Kyle must've
been mad when he finished 4th. Great run for DJ Kennington. Also, The
Davis motorsports cars:(Dan O'Qinn, Jr, #0 & Mike Wallace #01) did a
great job & they actually finished the race. Johnny should keep those 2
drivers because I have not seen a Davis Inc. car in the top 30 a lot, so
congrats. 1 Question for everyone reading this, did anybody see the
paint job for the #62 Gaughan? It looked like Rusty Wallace when he
drove the Genuine Draft pontiac from the early 90s. I think thats the
best paint scheme in the field.
(other than the #20.) (I like Gamestop) lol

Steve may see some time later this season in a 5th Childress car...we
will see if he is ready. Some guys are alot better in the Cup cars than
Nationwide. Only time will tell.

But Please dont judge him off this one race, especially by his finish.

He ran top 20 all race and was wrecked by none of his own doing. Wait
for California and then judge to see how he has matured.

He was starting towards the back anyway. And that had nothing to do with
a wreck that happened midpack and midrace.

Being a fan of Steve's and a fan of Penske as a whole, I was pretty
upset with Leffler after that wreck. But the more I watched the replay
the more I thought the penalty was out of line. If anything, he should
have gotten a lap. Definitely not 5.

Wow.

I'm a fan of the entire Wallace family, and I hope Steve can figure it
out. He's got some talent, and occasionally showcases it. He also seems
to be more patient on the track in the last year. But for every great,
patient race he has, it seems he has one where doesn't pay attention and
ruins about 5 cars.

I'm not losing all faith in him, but I don't want to see in Cup until at
least late 2010.

@WallaceFan,we're not judging Steve based off this one race...if
anything he had aleast a top-15/20 car before Leffler got into him.I
just don't Rusty repeating the same error he made in 06 by throwing
Steven to the wolves before he's ready.That I believe we can ALL agree on.

Im probably the biggest Steve Wallace supporter in the world..as of
right now, no, hes not ready for the cup series.
But he had a huge improvment from 2008 over 2007. If he makes that
improvement again...getting more top5s and top10s..and being top 15 on a
regular basis...then I say give him a shot.

Nationwide Daytona wins. Only the Earnhardts have more, Dale Sr. has

Justin Ashburn was on the entry list as the #85 31-W Insulation Ford but
he must have withdrew from the race or something (I don't know the whole
story) but he was on the Nascar.com entry list and on the DNQ list

The car Tony Stewart won with here became a show car at Rick Hendrick's
car dealership, no matter what the result was. Tony won with the car, so
the car got a trophy to go with it.

Justin Ashburn participated in both practice sessions, but the No. 85
Day Enterprise Racing team withdrew from the event prior to qualifying.

Derrike Cope was originally entered in his own No. 73 car, but withdrew
that entry once he got the opportunity to drive the No. 41 car for Rick
Ware Racing (Although Cope DNQ'd.).

Tony Stewart's lone NASCAR start for Hendrick Motorsports ends in
victory, pretty much as one would expect. The victory marked Stewart's
return to the Chevrolet ranks after racing Toyotas in 2008. The 2009
season would be a big one for Smoke as he became an owner-driver in the
Cup series, leaving Joe Gibbs Racing for his new Stewart-Haas team; the
launch of his new Chevy team opened the door for Stewart to race one
here for Rick Hendrick, who was also providing technical support for
Smoke's Cup team.

The one-off #80 Chevrolet Hendrick fielded here marked the team's last
entry to date in the NASCAR Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity series. Hendrick
pulled out of the tour with the team instead backing the entries of JR
Motorsports, owned by its Cup driver at the time Dale Earnhardt, Jr., to
provide its needs in the series.
