The rear end axle busting of a car and causing the driver to wreck...not something you see happen alot. Kelly Bires gets another top 5 Kenny Wallace gets his best finish of the year, and only the 4th top 10 EVER for Jay Robinson Racing. 2nd in a row...not to bad Scott lagasse jr's last race in the 11 car and he finishes 9th Michael McDowell finishes 8th in the 26 car, the best finish EVER for the team. Only the teams 2nd top 10 ever. Benny Gordon's best career finish to this point, finished 12th. Was in the top 10 late, but dropped a few spots late I think this was Johnny Borneman's best finish in the Nationwide series. Morgan Shepherd, the immortal one, barely made the race, and started 43rd, but made a great run, running in the top 15 before a spin, finished in 19th -------------- 2 drivers made their debut: Sean Murphy --27th Coleman Pressley (son of Robert) --41st and a little side note, Jack Smith attempted to make his 1st career race, but DNQ. 3. Kudos to Rusty for the design and the engineers that brought it to life. ISC needs to buy this track and ditch Chicago and Kansas and run this track at those dates for the Mid Westerners (as well as totally get California off the schedule and give their respective dates back to Rockingham and Darlington). Excellent job by Brad Keselowski beating Kyle on older tires and repassing him. I'm telling ya, this guy is the future. He will have a much better career than Logano. Smart move by Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, and Kevin Harvick to make the 700 mile flight from Pocono to Iowa to race in a Nationwide race and take some focus off their Cup efforts. It's not like Hendrick cars are kicking their teeth down their throats every single week. Oh, wait. John Wrecks Weekly and Wrecker Wallace both crash, but neither was their fault. That is odd!! Bad day for Austin Dillon and the High Point University car. I almost went to High Point University after I finished high school. 4. Lots of good racing, especially Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch constantly swapping the lead throughout the event. Congrats to Brad kKeselowski on winning the first Nationwide event at Iowa. Man, after seeing this event, I can't wait for the Truck series Iowa race in early September! 7. b4il3y posted: 08.02.2009 - 4:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) very, very good race. would like to see some cup here in the future. 8. It's basically a slightly larger version of Richmond, which always provides great racing. I vote to give it a Cup date later on. Michael McDowell gets a top 10 with a team that DNQ'd the previous week, and Johnny Borneman and Benny Gordon pull off a lead lap finish. Justin Allgaier wrecked 3 different cars and robbed Wallace and Darnell of possible top 5s. Kenny Wallace gets back to back top 10s for the first time since 2005 at Milwaukee and Daytona. And Kez finally wins his first non-fluke race of 2009. Good to see Shrub get beaten by a Nationwide driver. 9. Actually, it's been the norm this year that 90% of the wrecks Steve Wallace is involved in are not his fault. 10. I think Michael McDowell proved how terrible of a driver Brian Keselowski is. Half the time he cant ever qualify the car, and McDowell (who isnt exactly a champion) goes and qual in the top 10...and FINISHES THERE! What a run for him. 11. WallaceFan posted: 08.02.2009 - 12:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tough one for Steve... Running 4th with about 10laps to go..they went 3wide, Darnell pinched Allgaier a bit and they all got together. Couldve had another top 5, instead salvages a 17th. During the prerace him and Scott Lagasse were joking around, so I guess no rivalry there. 12. It's pretty pathetic that Busch, Edwards, and Harprick flew all the way to Iowa for this race. McDowell is improving. Nice to see a Pressley back into racing. It would be great to see Shephard win a Busch race. Whoa, Casey Atwood is racing again. 15. WallaceFan posted: 08.02.2009 - 7:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good point on McDowell...looking at Loop Data he was about the 18th best car on the track. On the subject of Coleman Pressley, i dont think they planned a start and park effort. They had sponsorship for the race, and in the past do tend to run with sponsors. Also the reason listed is engine...which is a very uncommon start and park. So i think he just had bad luck. No point for a kids debut to be start and park. 16. I don't understand what pride they could take as established Cup drivers winning in a lower series. Seems like a step backwards to me. I have a personal example of this. A few weeks ago I signed up for a paramedic training course at a local community college. As a mandatory prerequisite, I had to take a 10th grade level reading test. Never mind that I have a 4 year COLLEGE B.S. diploma, I still had to take it to be entered. I got every single question right. Did I take any pride in that? Absolutely not. I felt embarrassed to be there to be honest. These guys with full time big budget Cup teams should feel equally embarrassed to go through all this just to run in a lower series. And of course Kyle Busch acts like a complete jerk after finishing second. He tied the legendary Jack Ingram for consecutive Top 2 finishes, but could only sulk. He never thanked his crew for their hard work and having to deal with the logistics of having a different driver practice and qualify the car, just acted like his dog had been shot. Do you know how many people would love to be in his situation? I hope like hell he misses the cha$e. "Whoa, Casey Atwood is racing again." Just don't tell Ray Evernham. He'll try to find some way to screw him again. 17. Willy on Wheels posted: 08.02.2009 - 9:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That race was awesome. This place deserves a cup date 18. I signed up for a college class I had been looking forward to taking for a few years. The very first day in class, literally everyone in the class is a redneck. This wasn't even an ag class. Just a bunch of hicks taking this class as an elective for no reason. This one white trash chick called up her boyfriend and bitched him out because he didn't show up for class and she signed up for the class with him. Then the professor is straight out of South America and she reads the syllabus WORD FOR WORD. It was also almost impossible for me to talk to her and for her to know what I was talking about due to the language and culture barrier. I dropped the class within 15 minutes of leaving. It was too much of a step backwards for me. But I think it's hilarious that Harprick went from thinking he's tough shit against Ricky Rudd to now about to lose his Cup ride and is only somewhat competitive in Nationwide cars. He might as well just focus on being a truck team owner because he doesn't have the maturity to salvage his Cup career. 24. I had a professor like that in an upper Physics class I had to take. He was from.... actually I have no idea where he was from but I could barely understand him and he's trying to teach Physics!! That is my worst subject anyways. I don't know how I passed. It was a nightmare, and it was a class I needed. "The very first day in class, literally everyone in the class is a redneck." I had the misfortune of going to a school with a big Theatre and Arts program, so I never had that problem in my electives. It was the opppsite. Everyone always tried to act all cultured and sophisticated. Sometimes I just wanted to blurt out "This ain't New York City, this is Greensboro!! If you're looking for culture, welcome to hell!!" "But I think it's hilarious that Harprick went from thinking he's tough shit against Ricky Rudd to now about to lose his Cup ride and is only somewhat competitive in Nationwide cars." He better be glad Ricky didn't get a hold of him that night. He would have messed his shit up big time!! My favorite part was his wife trying to get him away from Ricky and the announcers are like "She's trying to prevent him from getting in trouble." Yeah right!! She knew what would happen if Ricky got his hands on him. Kevin is ugly enough as it is. She knew what their future breakfast conversations would be like. "Honey, would you like eggs sunny side up or scrambled like your face". Ricky would have kicked his ass!!! 25. Here's a list of those drivers: #18 - Jeremy Clements (sub for Kyle Busch) #33 - Cale Gale (sub for Kevin Harvick) #34 - Kevin Hamlin (sub for Tony Raines) [Raines was driving a start-and-park Cup car for Front Row Motorsports. He successfully qualified the car.] #60 - Auggie Vidovich (sub for Carl Edwards) There were three practice sessions prior to qualifying. Cale Gale was the only substitute driver to participate in all three practice sessions. The other three drivers only participated in two sessions. (The No. 60 car didn't hit the track during final practice.) None of the four Cup drivers qualified their cars. 28.
