I thought I never would see that happen. Ambrose is one of the best full time Nascar drivers at Road Racing currently. This is his only Nationwide start of the year. I wouldn't be shocked if he wins the cup race whenever it happens. I don't when the race will happen it appears like it will rain tomorrow at Watkins Glen and Nascar said last year that the cup cars will not be using rain tires. Jeffrey Earnhardt's first Nationwide start. 5. CarlEdwards99 posted: 08.08.2009 - 11:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) 1. Robby Gordon team can't run out of business soon enough. He needs to leave the sport. He is going to hurt someone 2. the Nationwide series just keeps putting on a show. 3rd week in a row of great racing (IRP, Iowa, the glen). Amazing thing is, there is only about 5 competitve cars in the Nationwide series on a giving week. This just proves that Jeff Burton and all the other NASCAR shills that tell us how cup racing is better than ever because there is more competitive cars than ever are full of crap. It's not about having 20-25 cars that can win on a giving weekend, it's about having cars that can pass and race side by side with each other. If you have that, you don't need a deep field of cars that can win 6. Rusty posted: 08.08.2009 - 11:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Robby Gordon is an idiot. Robby had a run-in with Logano earlier in the race and appeared to try and spin Logano in Turn 1 but instead cut down his on right front tire leading up to the wreck later. Logano said about Gordon, "You can't fix stupid. It's forever." Perhaps the best comment made at the Glen since Sterling Marlin called Greg Biffle a "bug-eyed dummy." This was a good race overall with Ambrose making a daring pass for the win with about 20 laps to go. Joe Nemechek and J.R Fitzpatrick had top 15 runs going until the last lap when they made contact causing Joe to spin and both to lose several spots. Paul Menard had a good run going before crashing while running in the top 5 and crashing again later in the race. Kyle Busch sets a record for most consecutive top 2 finishes (10 races) and ties another record for consecutive races with a lap led (19 races). Just out of curiosity, how did Eric McClure manage to lose 10 laps in a road course race when it wasn't mentioned that he had any engine problems and wasn't involved in any crashes? 9. After last weeks run in with Stremme, he all but tries to kill Joey Logano. Ran into him about 5 different times before finally putting him into the tire barrier. What did Joey do wrong? I have no idea. 10. WallaceFan posted: 08.09.2009 - 12:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) A few notes... Joe Nemechek was 11th before a last lap crash with Fitzpatrick. First Career Start for Jeffrey Earnhardt. First completed race for Start and Park King MSRP. After Peyton Sellers failed his sponsor shifted to Blaney, who was then able to run the whole race. Chris Cook qualified the 90 car..but switched the the 23 for Ken Butler, leaving Mike Bliss in the 90. 11. When everyone pitted on lap 45, him and Gaughan stayed out to be 1-2. They then pitted 8 laps later. I think the idea was that they had fresh tires, and if the race went green the rest of the way, not everyone would be able to make it, while they would be assured. It didnt work out, but Steve still managed to get 12th place. Great run. 12. And a big CONGRATS to MSRP which managed to avoid the vibrations, engine, rear end, etc. issues that have caused their car to park 97 times in 98 starts and finish a race. I did not know it was possible for them to do so, but I guess anything is possible now. That is great news being a cubs fan, if MSRP can finish a race, the CUBS can win a WORLD SERIES!!! This was Justin Marks 2nd career start, first in a year. Career best run for JR Fitzpatrick in 18th place. Road Ringers didnt do to bad Ambrose-1st Ron Fellows-5th Scott Speed-10th (I know he is cup, but dude drove F1) Boris Said-11th Robby Gordon-14th (I know cup again, but he is known to be a road racer) Chris Cook-31st Justin Marks-32nd Antonio Perez-40th Tom Hubert-41st And dissapointed to say Mike Bliss is a start and park driver and he is in the top 10 in points...what kind of crazy world do we live in. You got a guy in the top 10 parking his car on lap 4, and his teammate on the team that has DNF'd in 97 (of 98 races) finishing the race in 13th. You are now entering the Twilight Zone.... 13. For the first and possibly only time in Nationwide series history, an Phil Start and Parksons owned car actually ran the whole race, and scored a top 15 on the lead lap to boot! Better enjoy it while you can, because next week both cars and their drivers will be leaving the track by lap 20. "All the elements are there except for money." With all the loot that they have hauled away for the past year and a half in Nationwide, plus half a season of last place money in Cup, I would imagine that they could well afford to run the rest of the season unsponsored. At least do what Joe Nemechek does, start and park in Cup and run the full race in Nationwide. The pass Marcos Ambrose made was incredibly gutsy and very unexpected. I fully expected him to outbrake Shrub in turn 1. Once again Shrub proved what a bad sport he was by banging into Ambrose once the race was over. So Mike Bliss gets fired because he won a race, led laps and had the car in the top 5 in points, and gets replaced by a damn Cup driver? Scott Lagasse was having a decent rookie year, and gets released so Denny Hamlin can get more seat time in Nationwide? I was glad to see both of those rotten teams end up with DNFs. Also this was probably the first race this year in which the 09 car didn't cause a caution, hopefully Boris drives it at Montreal too. 15. I read a report once where they did the math on how much MSRP made in winnings vs. the cost of getting to and from the racetrack. They actually didn't make that much-probably about enough for maybe 1 complete race. Sponsorship is everything in this sport. 18. And his explanation was totally bogus. He has no regard for anything. He is so desperate it is pathetic. I can't believe he is almost 40. Some people just never grow up, or as Joey said, "stupid is forever". "This just proves that Jeff Burton and all the other NASCAR shills that tell us how cup racing is better than ever because there is more competitive cars than ever are full of crap. I'm sick of these people (Jeff Burton was a great example) saying NASCAR is so much better now than it was in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s just because five people at most would finish on the lead lap and now 30 people finish there. What a load of steaming crap!!! Those 30 cars just run single file and only switch positions on pit strategy. In the older days they would race side by side and put on a great show. They might be the only two cars on the lead lap, but it was one hell of a show!! "So Mike Bliss gets fired because he won a race, led laps and had the car in the top 5 in points, and gets replaced by a damn Cup driver? I'm pretty disgusted by this too. There is no reason to fire them and put Cup drivers in those cars. I'm sick of hearing about "seat time". Ryan Newman has been racing in Cup since 2002 and Denny since 2006. They don't need any more seat time, they just want to hog the spotlight by beating up on lesser competition then acting like conquering heroes when they *gasp* beat drivers who don't race against the best every week. Jeff Burton also talks about this saying it is a good thing. If he hasn't got the seat time he needs by now, then he just needs to give it up. IT'S A STEP BACKWARDS YOU IDIOTS!!! 19. That move he made was totally clean, he went THROUGH THE GRASS to avoid hitting Kyle. Kyle just choked and went through the loop. Then he hits Marcos on the cool down lap (after Marcos checked out from him on two restarts) and claims it was a "late move". Guess what Kyle, PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO ROLL OVER FOR YOU!!! I hate the sense of entitlement he feels just because he is talented and in good equipment. He is really buying his own press. I hope he misses the cha$e in Cup. He probably won't as the Roush cars are totally out to lunch lately, and Gibbs will probably really work on getting him not to throw away races. But I still hope. 20. They have good equipment to qualify in the top 15 at every race but nothing on the hood cause them to start-n-park after 15 laps. That just shows what you can do you if sponsor on the hood by backing up their top 20 qualifying efforts with an top 15 at the Glen. I hope that this is a good sign for things to come with the team. Funny that two guys I've been pulling for lately, JPM and Ambrose, both are road racers from somewhere other than the US. It feels like these two guys have more character and drive than the standard 20-something driver from the midwest/southeast who grew up in stock cars. I don't think anyone will really dislike the move Ambrose pulled but I was a little surprised when it happened. I think that's what he was relying on, and Kyle definitely could have made it through there IMO. Kyle chose to lose the lead on his own by missing chicane. He could have hit the brakes a bit, taken the inside curb on his way out of the loop and maybe lost the lead but still had a shot. Great race! 22. Anonymous posted: 08.09.2009 - 3:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The reason that Dave Blaney ran the whole race was because he was driving for Peyton Sellers. It was one of Sellers' car with Sellers' crew. MSRP had nothing to do with it aside from taking the points by virtue of their number. Peyton Sellers' sponsor wanted to be in the race, and voila. Please don't give kudos to MSRP or talk about that's how they'd run if they had the funds, because they DO have the funds and choose not to race. You can't show up every week for 2 years straight yet not have enough money to run a whole race. It's ridiculous. 23. I wouldn't mind MSRP if they would start and park in some races and run the full distance in others, like what TRG is doing with Gilliland. As a sponsor, I'd be much more inclined to sponsor a team that shows interest in running full races as opposed to calling it quits after 2 laps. I strongly believe that NASCAR needs to adjust race payouts so that the winners get a lot more than the quitters. In this race there was only $30K difference between first and last, which is why some S&P teams think it isnt worth running the whole race when finishing last pays about the same. In Cup, the winners get a lot more of the purse but last place still pays $60K. 24.
