Denny Hamlin took over. Unfortunately, I believe the #18 having to come through traffic twice contributed to the great racing, but this track has better racing during the day anyways. I truly don't know who to blame for the 88, 18, 16 crash. Joey really only won this race due to having fresh tires at the end. The only person who should drive a Valvoline car for Jack Roush is Mark Martin. Read on Jayski that Joey Logano's father had his credential pulled for confronting Greg Biffle after the race on pit road while Biffle was still inside his car. 3. Hey NASCAR - wake up and smell the coffee. The fans don't like this track. Auto Crap Speedway needs to lose a date, and if they can't sell out 1 Sprint Cup date, they need to lose both dates. 4. petty43 posted: 10.10.2009 - 11:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) actually neal the track promotes good racing but california sports fans suck. especially with motorsports. 5. Plus Hamlin should of been randomly checking the mirror. I hope NASCAR doesn't give Logano's daddy the credentials back for a couple of weeks to show him that he is not needed in the garage, that Joey is a big boy and he don't need his hand held anymore. 6. He had the bottom groove all to himself, but couldn't hold his line and kept pushing up the race track. Unfortunately at the same Biffle attempted a daring/stupid pass on the outside. Hamlin was in the middle and had to keep moving up the track and squeezed Biffle into the wall and got wrecked. I was totally shocked that Hamlin didn't call Brad out on that one. I didn't think Dover two weeks ago was Brad's fault because he held his line, but this incident was. Great runs for underdogs Jeremy Clements, Mike Wallace and Johnny Borneman. Hats off to them for preserving the integrity of the sport by actually racing and not parking. NASCAR's purse structure continues to confuse me. Can someone explain to me how Chase Miller who quit after lap 3 got more money than David Ragan who finished 9th on the lead lap? 9. 18fan posted: 10.11.2009 - 1:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The ESPN crew made several mentions of Jeremy Clements. He had a fantastic race in a crappy Johnny Davis car. 10. New 14&88 Fan posted: 10.11.2009 - 1:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) For once the racing here was actually pretty good, two and three-wide racing through out the pack especially up front... John Wrecks Townley actually had a good run going before he 'eventually' lost it and took Jason Leffler and Michael McDowell with him.Allgaier and Brendan Gaughan got togather at the same time...but Allgaier managed to hang on to fifth in points due to Steve Wallace cutting a tire on the last lap and dropping to 29th. The Biffle/Hamlin crash was the fault of both Hamlin's spotter and The Bif,Hamlin knew about Brad on his inside(and Brad was moving up despite having the bottom to himself)but the spotter should of been telling him about Biffle coming on his outside making it 3-wide,and Biffle should of known better than to try and squize into a spot where there was no room for his car to fit into. Of course when ESPN interviewed Hamlin they tried to spin it into a continuation Hamlin and Brad's get together at Dover two weeks ago...I swear they believe drama is a required part of sports. 11. 18fan posted: 10.11.2009 - 1:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) They do. Joey Logano's victory lane interview at Kansas, Denny today, Tim Tebow's return today for Florida. All perfect examples of over dramatization by ESPN. 12. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.11.2009 - 9:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) John Wrecks Weekly makes his dramatic return to the #09 Zaxby's car (which is sponsoring him because of his driving talent, not because his Dad owns the company) and lives up to his billing. It was a heart stopper as 126 laps passed without incident. Yes, it truly did indeed seem as though John Wrecks Weekly would not live up to his advance billing. But finally, in a clutch moment, near the end of the race, he pulled through and lost it, collecting a few other cars for good measure. I didn't think it would happen, but John Wrecks Weekly pulled through! (That is my lame attempt at a sarcastic ESPN report) 13. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.11.2009 - 10:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Hamlin/Biffle wreck was just a perfect storm. Brad got loose on the bottom and had to chase it up the track a little, while Biff had a hell of a run on the top side. Nobody's fault. Hell of a job by Brad avoiding that and a hell of a job by him not wrecking after Carl spun his tires and they had a huge jam up. And a hell of a job of recovering to finish 5th. I like Brad more and more every week. He makes the best of his Chevrolet equipment (which is majorly outclassed by the Toyotas right now), can actually challenge those JGR cars, and is not afraid to mix it up with the Cup guys who expect Nationwide races to be their personal playground and for the non-Cup full timers to just be happy to be in their presence. He is ruffling the divas feathers, and I like it. I'm gonna say it for the 165,784,925th time: Tony, you will regret not finding a way to get Brad in one of your cars. Even though SHR is really just a HMS puppet team, he could have got a lot of credit for the success that Brad would undeniably get if were in the HMS equipment that SHR runs. Now all that credit will go straight to Rick Hendrick whenever Mark retires. And Denny, although much calmer this time, once again makes an ass of himself. I blame part of this on ESPN's overdramatization, as 18fan pointed out. But he said "Brad drives with a chip on his shoulder". Why shouldn't he have a chip on his shoulder? He has all these Cup guys come into the Nationwide Series and expect him to just roll over for them and race like they do in the Cup Series WHEN IT ISN'T A CUP EVENT!!! He has the underachieving Diva Hamlin, a coddled asshole, constantly berating him, and even has Tony Stewart, Rick Hendrick's Puppet, the man who knows everything about racing etiquette (jusk ask Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Diva Hamlin, Kryle Busch, and Kasey Kahne) talking bad about him. Then he gets shut down for a Cup ride when he has already proven he can run up front and win in the Cup Series because everyone else is busy salivating over Danica Patrick and the instant publicity she would bring even though she hasn't done jack shit in a very weak series. I would have a chip too. But he has handled it with classy feistiness and determination. Denny needs to go ahead and get his shots in now because when it is all said and done, Brad's career will eclipse Denny's in a major way. He has already shown me more than Diva Hamlin despite only running a handful of races. I don't care what anyone says, his Talladega win was impressive. I know it is Talladega which produces fluky finishes, and I know it was a rented Hendrick car and motor. But to win in James Finch's #09 Cup car is huge. Brad will be a force in Sprint Cup eventually, especially when he gets in the #5 car. And speaking of coddled assholes, if the story is true, they need to ban Joey Logano's rich Daddy from the garage for the rest of the season. The only reason Joey is here is because his rich Daddy spent millions of dollars buying him the best equipment so he could go out and beat middle class kids on shoestring budgets. Joey has had everything handed to him on a silver platter. Now he is sucking major ass in the Cup Series in a 2 time championship winning car. Biff paid Joey back for something that apparently happened at Kansas. Guess what Joey's rich Daddy: Your son is not above reproach. Just because he grew up rich doesn't mean he is better than ANYONE and doesn't exclude him from being paid back when he does something wrong. Kiss my ass you overpaid son of a bitch!!! What was Rusty's Son so mad about? From the replay, it looks like he tried to block Allgaier (who has more racing talent in his pinky than Wrecker has in his whole body) then slammed into him in the corner, cutting his own tire. Of course this is huge because it is for the all important 5th spot in points which, despite still having 5 races to go, the ESPN crew couldn't quit raving about how Rusty's Son was beating Allgaier so bad on the track and how he would run away with 5th in the points. How'd that work out, assholes? He finished 29th with a 5th place car. He is a dumb son of a bitch who will never amount to anything in racing. If his Daddy wasn't Rusty Wallace, he would never even get looked at. 14. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.11.2009 - 10:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) And wasn't it nice of ESPN to show the 2007 Milwuakee footage of JGR forcing Aric Almirola (who won the pole and was dominating at the time) out of the car so Denny Hamlin could get in and take the checkered flag. Of course Denny doesn't understand why anyone would have "a chip on their shoulder". And one other thing, how about Dave Rogers calling Greg Biffle a "coward"? This is the same guy blatently cheated in a horsepower test and was banned from NASCAR fo half a year and embarrassed the good name of Joe Gibbs (watching the Coach having to explain his team's actions with all that remorse in his eyes was painful to watch, he deserves much better). 15. As it stands the #14 has proven to be a championship caliber team while the #39 hasn't even won a race yet. It makes a hell of a lot more sense to strengthen the second team as opposed to adding a third team so soon. Adding a third car would mean adding a full season's worth of sponsorship, and you all know how that is to come by. If Tony does ever decide to expand to a third car later on, there's no shortage of talented drivers to choose from. "because everyone else is busy salivating over Danica Patrick and the instant publicity she would bring even though she hasn't done jack shit in a very weak series." Not a fan of hers, but she finished 5th in 2009 IRL points as of yesterday, ahead of teammate and former champion Tony Kanaan. That's the best of the non Penske/Ganassi cars who have won a whopping 15/17 races this season. So that ought to count for something. "From the replay, it looks like he tried to block Allgaier (who has more racing talent in his pinky than Wrecker has in his whole body) then slammed into him in the corner, cutting his own tire." Still calling him a wrecker eh? Some people just never get over what happened in the past. I agree what Steve did was kinda dumb, but he's shown a lot of improvement over the last two years. And Allgaier has done some dumb things this season as well, just ask Ron Fellows. And what's with all the hate for Fontana? This was actually one of the better races we've seen here in a while. At the very least, it was no worse than any of the other intermediate tracks. 18. WallaceFan posted: 10.11.2009 - 12:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tough one for Steve. Got up into the top 10, then penalized for passing before the green. Dropped back to 25th. Made his way back up and was as high as 4th. Had on of the best cars on the track. Restarted in the top 10 on the last restart, made some contact and blew a tire and finished 29th..... Anyways great race, 5wide racing at some points. Lots of leaders taken out. I agree with Bronco that Brad had the whole bottom of the track. Surprised that Denny didnt go after him. Vickers restarted 27th after taking a 2tire stop with about 10 to go. Great runs for Joey, MICHAEL ANNETT (picked it up since losing his sponsor), Gaughan, Gilliland, Clements, Bliss, and Mike Wallace. Good day overall for Johnny Davis. And of course, Joey Logano's dad needs to get lost. He belongs in the stands. 19. The cars have to be pretty much equal. Of course, you probably wouldn't understand this because you seem to think Hendrick cars are full of problems, especially with the #88. Besides, he really isn't focusing on his second team if he's courting Danica Patrick. He'd be better off spending those resources on Brad. "If Tony does ever decide to expand to a third car later on, there's no shortage of talented drivers to choose from." Drivers are still bound by contracts that are not easy to get out of. He has to find a driver who's getting out of his contract first. "Not a fan of hers, but she finished 5th in 2009 IRL points as of yesterday, ahead of teammate and former champion Tony Kanaan. That doesn't mean shit when there's only 20 cars in the field and she hasn't even won a race this season. She's just making laps in a car that is capable of getting fifth in points, that's all. The whole point of racing is to win races and be competitive, something she really hasn't done considering she's literally lead 0.008 of her total career laps. Besides, that DOESN'T count for anything when we're discussing her potential involvement in Nationwide. Her points in IRL does not transfer here. There are drivers much more successful in IRL that didn't do much in NASCAR. If she was dominating IRL, I could see why there would be teams trying to get her into Nationwide, but she hasn't. Personally, I think she races more for the money than actually winning. She's not that good at all and yet she's running after high dollar contracts. She reminds me of Michael Waltrip in that way; she realizes that she can make money by being an attention whore rather than a good racer. That's the kind of attitude that's turning NASCAR into a reality TV show rather than a sport. 20. The way some people make it seem is that the 09 car should have parked after 5 laps and had no business being on the track. When Brad drives it, its a good car. Not taking anything away from his win though, because he was the only one smart enough to hook up with Carl. And about him beating Joey Logano at Darlington, hes about 6 years older and has alot more Nationwide experience, so I dont see the need from comparison there. 2 different drivers, both running good cars in 1st cup starts at Darlington. Denny proved his hands weren't all that capable this weekend. 155 points mean Carl still needs to average a gain of over 30 points a race to catch Kyle. But Brad is also just 227 points back of Kyle now so hopefully both Carl and Kyle can have some bad luck to get Brad back in it; the only reason he isn't up there with Kyle in the standings is because of the first 3 races when he finished 22nd, 27th, 27th and put himself in a big hole. Since then he's had 3 wins, 19 top fives and 24 top tens in the last 26 races. He's currently on an 8 race top five streak and 12 race top ten streak. Michael Annett's been running great lately and got his best career finish with a 6th; hopefully Germain can find sponsorship to come back with him next season. 12th is Jeremy Clements' best career finish. Most people probably remember him in ARCA in 2007 for running out of fuel just before the checkered flag at Pocono while leading, denying him his first ARCA win. Fortunately he won later in the year at Nashville. Brendan Gaughan had just his 2nd top ten in the last 16 races. Joey Logano got his 4th win in his last 8 starts. His winning percentage is up to 26%, best this season. His 4th pole puts him one behind Carl Edwards for most this season. For everyone ragging on him, he was supposed to be running Nationwide full time this year and a partial schedule in Cup. So far he's met or even exceeded expectations in Nationwide and has done a good job as the youngest full time Cup driver ever when he wasn't supposed to be. David Gilliland got just his 3rd career top ten in 38 starts in Nationwide. The other top tens were a 10th at Daytona in 2007 driving for Ed Rensi and his win at Kentucky in 2006. Jason Keller had his 2nd 10th place finish in the last 3 races. He's only 120 points behind Justin Allgaier for 5th in the standings. You gotta give Eric McClure some credit for not driving for a S&P team and running the races but he's the worst in points of all the driver who've run every race in 17th; his average finish is 26.4 and his best finish this year was 16th at Las Vegas. 45. The only way Stewart can get Dale JR. after 2012 is if a seat is open or decides to have a 4th team. Kevin's contract is up after next year. Kevin can offer Stewart more than being a driver. Kevin owns Truck and Nationwide teams. That means Stewart could have plans on having a working relationship as a team owner in Nationwide & trucks with Kevin if he wants to like Jr. has with Rick Hendrick for Jr. Motorsports. Based on what I read on Espn yesterday from a chat, A 3rd SHR racing team will be down to Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick as a driver. 46. I don't see Dick Brooks, Ron Bouchard, Phil Start and Parksons, or Bobby Hillin getting the credit for their win that Brad gets. Brooks won in a car that didn't finish in the top 15 with any other driver. The Jack Beebe team that Bouchard won with was good, but not top line. Parsons was in pretty good Jackson equipment, and Hillin was driving the average Stavola Brothers team. What people don't remember is that Finch has always had good runs on plate tracks, without Hendrick, so Brad's win wasn't as impressive as people make it out to be. 48. Exactly. Heck, 52 year old Geoff Bodine finished 3rd in the 2002 Daytona 500, and started 2nd and finished 10th in the Pepsi 400 that year. Mike Wallace finished 4th in the 2007 Daytona 500 by getting through all the last lap carnage. Phoenix has always had good RP cars, those are the few races in which they dont park the car after 2 laps. Restrictor plate races at Talladega are very fluky with the CoT, a lot more than before. Talladega is a lot more wide open than Daytona and handling isn't much of an issue so anyone can come to the front, mainly because of that two car lockdraft. Some of the unlikely names that have finished in the top 10 in CoT Talladega races include people like Dave Blaney, Tony Raines, Travis Kvapil, Regan Smith, Paul Menard, Bobby Labonte, Scott Riggs, Robby Gordon, Scott Slow, Greg Biffle, and Rollgano. I'll be very interested to see what happens two weeks at Talladega. It pisses me off that NASCAR pushed Talladega back by 3 weeks with their new "realigned" schedule. 49. Actually it already has but just kill it off anyway. 50. I think he'll take over the #24 car in 2011. Kasey has already proven he can replace a legend (Bill Eliott's famous #9), and he can do it again. 51. They announced this week that Colin Braun will drive for Roush in the #16 in Nationwide full time next year and going for ROTY; Truck sponsor Conway will be on the car for 18 races. The current Truck team will move over to Nationwide meaning no Roush in 2010 in the Truck Series. Up until this year when he got his first Truck win Colin's best finish in NASCAR was a 2nd place finish from pole at IRP in Nationwide. He also won the pole for Mexico in just his 3rd career start. So he should have a great season and contend for the win at Montreal and Watkins Glen since he's a great road racer. I'd like to see him replace David Ragan in the 6 in 2011 if David can't get his act together and run up front. 52. I believe that kid has a lot of potential, but he needs to learn the oval tracks a bit better before he moves into Cup, and he can get the practice he needs by running a full-time Nationwide schedule. And yes, David Ragan has been a disaster this season! I don't know what the deal is; I would still expect Ragan to be doing better even with Roush being off this season. David and the 6 team had a good finish (7th) at Fontana, so hopefully they can use that as a stepping stone for the rest of 2009, and then go into 2010 with some confidence. 53. It'd be a lot easier to get Stenhouse on a full schedule if Carl weren't going to run full time double duty in Cup and Nationwide for a 6th straight season. >:-( 54. Well now he's going back on that saying he needs sponsorship for Darnell or they can't run him. Nice of him to lie though. 55. Darnell was only the next in line to be treated like dirt by Jack Roush. Jack Roush is called the Jerk in the hat for a reason. 56. This is the most recent thing I could find on Jayski about Jack talking about his Nationwide plans. http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/nationwideseries/Roush_Fenway_Racing_could_have_five-plus_Nationwide_teams_for_2010.html 57.
