DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2009 - 9:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Screw you ESPN. Here's the deal: Yes, David Gilliland made a bone headed move. And yes, it ruined Rusty's Sons race. Yeah, I said it, Rusty's Boy just got flat taken out by somebody else's stupid mistake. BUT............. For the rest of the race we had to hear the ESPN announce team just totally rip Gilliland. Was it a stupid move? Yes. Did he deserve the treatment he got? No. And then we get Brad Daughtery (and remember, I'm a huge Tar Heel Hoops fan) saying stupid crap like "He just got flat taken out!" Of course it is nothing new for Brad to say something stupid. But here is my point: HOW MANY TIMES HAS RUSTY'S BOY DONE THE EXACT SAME THING!!!! He has NO room to complain. He has made enough stupid moves to last 3 or 4 lifetimes. Then he smashes his thousand dollar helmet like a child (which he admitted to in his interview which I was impressed with). In his interview he said things like "the track is fine, it's the people out there" or "you have to respect the other drivers". Who the hell is HE to say that? What about all the people he "respected" over and over again. And of course ESPN never brings up any of Rusty's Boys past history. They act like he is a saint and everyone is out to get him. They never said anything like "We'll I'm sure Rusty's Son understands" or "For once it wasn't The '89 Champ's Boy making the bonehead move". What a load af steaming crap. What Rusty's Kid should have said was this: "I'm disappointed that we got taken out by an unnessecary move that even Todd Bodine thinks was stupid. But I've made plenty of those mistakes in the past myself, so I can't really say much. It is very frustrating being on this side of it, so I would like to apologize to everyone I've taken out with similar moves in the past. And I want to thank my crew for sticking with me." And another thing, this Joey Logano vs Greg Biffle fued has to be the lamest fued ever. Although I like the way The Biff drives, he is one of the underrated whiners of our generation. He was saying things like "He needs to respect the veterans" or that other crap often said by Rick Hendrick's Puppet basically meaning "Roll over and don't race me". And Joey is a rich kid who has had everything handed to him on a silver platter his whole life. He sure shows a lot of cockiness considering he runs like crap every week in the Cup Series (except Darlington where Cale Yarborough gave him a personal tutorial lesson) only to be bailed out by Zippy's calls (he as absolutely mastered the wave around rule). What a pathetic couple of "contestants". And of course ESPN treats it like it is Yarborough vs Allison. Ugh. 4. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2009 - 9:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) And now, for the good stuff: Helluva job Mike Bliss. How do you think James Finch felt watching this race? His guy makes a Todd Bodine-esque dive through the grass and looks like a jackass while Mike Bliss finishes second in an underfunded car. Also a big shout out to Dave Blaney. He had the #87 car in the Top 5 for an entire race for the first time since 2003. 5. Dodge posted: 10.17.2009 - 9:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anyone else confused with Leffler? He said he shouldn't of been where he was because he had an awful car, why didn't he come down to work on it during that previous caution? I believe he could of waved everyone around him if he thought that before the restart. I guess Leffler and Scott Zipadelli aren't as smart as they thought they were. 6. And again, congrats to Bliss. I know that #11 is looking for someone young for next year, but this guy deserves to be in one of their two cars. #87 was really a Braun car, as shown by the fact it was a Toyota and the sponsor. This brings up an interesting point: Was this the first time that someone OTHER than Jack Roush brought five cars to a Nationwide race? #38 Leffler #32 Vickers #10 Sorenson #43 Kahne #87 Blaney 8. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2009 - 10:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Anyone else confused with Leffler?" Yeah. I guess he was just waffling back and forth. He wanted to man up and take credit for the whole thing which he should have. He even went and apologized to some of the people that got taken out. But he couldn't just accept all the blame on TV, so he basically threw his whole team under the bus. He was trying to do the right thing publically, but his ego got in the way and he made things worse. Even Denny Hamlin is more mature than that as he showed at Cali last week. And that ain't saying much!! 9. RR posted: 10.17.2009 - 11:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race brought a smile to my face, but it is also an example of why I hate this series. The Buckeye Bullet has his best showing in a stock car since his win at this track three years ago. You'd could tell in his post-race interview that he was proabaly just as happy by simply getting to complete a race. Yet, he and Bliss are going to get ignored for future rides so that some Cup regular can get more "seat time" and a Cup sponsor can get a little more exposure. Since NASCAR thinks of themselves as "entertainment", let me pose this question. What was more entertaining: Kyle Busch winning, or Bliss and Blaney finishing second and third? 10. Bronco posted: 10.17.2009 - 11:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Two races with the #11 team, and two second place finishes for Mike Bliss, which is better than what anyone else was able to do with that car. Looks like he's locked up a ride for next year. I hope Finch feels like a damn fool for firing him, because he should. Dave Blaney proves he still knows how to drive and brings home a strong 3rd place finish, first top 5 since 2007 July race at Daytona. Tony Raines has an awesome run in the underfunded #34 car, 3rd top 10 this year. And congrats to Shrub on a well deserved win. "His guy makes a Todd Bodine-esque dive through the grass and looks like a jackass while Mike Bliss finishes second in an underfunded car. " That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the replays. Skinner tried a similar move on Sauter in the truck race this year and it didn't end too well for him. "And Joey is a rich kid who has had everything handed to him on a silver platter his whole life." No kidding. A top notch Cup ride, the fan vote, the New Hampshire win, he's been fed with a golden spoon his whole life. 11. Tony Stewart has said it before, how does 1 busch win qualify you as a cup driver? And he has the Wood Brothers, Robby Gordon, Finch, and now Gibbs going after him? He goes 4 wide into the grass, on the 60th lap...not with 2 to go....with 130 to go. They show his on board cam, he didnt even lift! He was in the gas the entire time. He cut off Kevin Hamlin and ran straight into Steve, ruining his day. And then of course Gilliland comes out of it with no damage. Yeah Steve shouldnt have thrown his helmet, and it was a terrible throw, but he was very mature in his interview. But because of this wreck he has no real shot at 5th position, and now could fall back as far as 8th. So he has a right to mbe mad. He also had a great car, he had passed tons of cars after his bad starting spot. 13. WallaceFan posted: 10.17.2009 - 12:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anyways great race. Great runs by Bliss again (hopefully gets the 11 full time next year), Blaney (who clearly deserves better than start and park), Tony Raines (who ESPN interviewed), and Michael Annett (running 9th when he hit the wall at the end) Im not sure but I think Justin Allgaier had a tire going down, or blew up or something. He was about 8th on the last lap and he was shown going very slow with lap cars passing him. He ended up behind Stewart who was way back. Not sure though. Ricky Stenhouse took a hard hit, glad hes ok. Lefflers interview was very confusing. Matt Kenseth called Eric McClure "the trash bag car" 14. BKBroila88 posted: 10.17.2009 - 1:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm sorry DaleSrFanForever, but your rant is about Gilliland/Wallace is completely making a mountain out of a molehill. The broadcasters weren't sitting there ripping Gilliland for the rest of the race. They treat all wrecks the same, and they've been known to mention bonehead moves for every wreck regardless of driver. They tell it like it is. I remember Randy Lajoie was one of the worst about degrading Steve Wallace. Heck, even Rusty will start blurting out about how Steve needs to be more patient and stop tearing cars up and all that. I don't know where you're going with some of those points... yeah, Brad Daugherty is occasionally hard to listen to, but "he just got flat taken out"? That was 100% accurate. Some drivers learn, and some do not. You can tell that Steve Wallace is learning, even John Wes Townley is learning, yet Cup veterans like David Gilliland continue to make the same mistakes. 15. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2009 - 3:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I respect your opinion BK. But to me, the announce team in the booth and the infield studio went too far. I think there is definitely a bias towards Rusty's Son. When Jason Leffler caused that big wreck, he was let off the hook pretty easy by the announcers (as he should, it was a racing accident and he somewhat manned up to it). But when Rusty's Son got wrecked, they acted like David pushed the Pope down a flight of steps. They couldn't say "That was in no way Rusty's Son's fault" or "he got taken out by an impatient move" enough. During the race recaps when they go over the race up to that point they just kept taking shots at him. And one other thing. Rusty's Boy said something about being taken out 3 weeks in a row. Unless somebody has a better camera view of it, I think last week's wreck was totally Wrecker's fault. It looked like he tried to block Allgaier (whom he's having such a dramatic battle with for 5th in points, just ask ESPN) then drilled him in Turn 1, cutting his own tire. He is improving at the same rate continents drift. 16. Bronco posted: 10.17.2009 - 3:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) DSFF, that's because the wreck that Leffler caused was the product of hard racing while what Gilliland did was stupid and showed a lack of patience. Leffler lost control of his car while Gilliland tried putting his car where it didn't belong. Big difference if you ask me. I agree that blocking the #12 last week was dumb, and he paid the price for it. But his average finish has greatly improved from his rookie year so he is getting it. "And he has the Wood Brothers, Robby Gordon, Finch, and now Gibbs going after him?" WallaceFan, one stupid move makes Gilliland the stupidest driver in NASCAR? That Todd Bodine move he pulled was dumb, but everyone, whether it's Johnson, Dale Jr, Martin, Stewart, Edwards have all done dumb shit in their careers. He did a great job for both the Wood Brothers and Robby Gordon in case you didn't notice. And he finished 8th last week for Finch. 17. You may not be able to hear it completly if you dont have surround sound. Who else has noticed this? On a side note, it sickens me that drivers like bliss, blaney, benson, nemechek, the list goes on, do not have full time rides but somehow mcmurray, mears, ragan, and sorenson continue to have cup rides year in and out. granted the sponsors have a lot to do with it. i wish the owners could hire whoever they want to drive their cars, you might see a lot of differences in the cup races. maybe, even some better racing. On the start and parkers, nascar should only pay out purse money to the top 40 finishers. this would make the s&p's actually race for something instead of just running two laps and collection 10k. hell, it may even deteur some from ever coming to the track. 20. David Gilliland showed a lot of impatience in this race with that "Todd Bodine" stunt he pulled, and took out Steven Wallace in the process. While I'm willing to give Steve credit for apologizing for the helmet throw, he has no room to talk bad about anybody else's driving after all of the wrecks he has caused in his short career. This is the same guy who has only three top-5's with a best finish of 5th in over 100 Nationwide races, while Gilliland won a race before he even hit five starts. Sure, Steve has improved and is doing better but he could have at least refrained from calling Gilliland a "washed up" Cup driver (I saw that quote on NASCAR.com). Jason Leffler... It's kind of hard for Steve or any other Nationwide regular driving for a Nationwide team to regularly finish in the top 10 when Cup drivers (Edwards, Busch, Biffle, Kenseth, Harvick, Burton, Bowyer, Hamlin, Rollgano, Reutimann) have taken over the series. Beginning in 2006, a full time Cup driver has won all the championships and have taken the majority of wins. Hell, they even invade IRP, Gateway, and Memphis which are supposed to be the time for Nationwide guys to shine. So how's a Nationwide only driver supposed to compete with that? I'm not saying ban Cup drivers completely, but make them run limited schedules, say no more than 8-10 races a year. And calling Gilliland a washed up Cup drivers isn't completely untrue either. Gilliland is doing start and parks in Cup, which is pretty washed up to me. 23. Mike Bliss got his second runner-up finish in 2 starts with the 11 team and is now within a shot of getting back into the top five in points. Blaney got his first top five finish in Nationwide since Daytona in 2007, and first top ten in anything in NASCAR since a 9th at Dover in 2008 for BDR in Cup. Despite winning the pole Carl Edwards never led a lap and ended up 5th so he's now 190 points behind Kyle. Keselowski's streak of top fives ended at 8 but his streak of top tens is still going strong at 13. Justin Allgaier was the rookie of the race and is now 109 points ahead of Steven Wallace for 5th in the standings. His ROTY lead is 18 points over Brendan Gaughan. Michael Annett got his 9th top 20 finish in the last 11 races. In that stretch he's moved from 15th in points 354 points behind 10th to 11th just 7 points back. He's also just 5 points behind McDowell for 3rd in the ROTY standings. Eric McClure got just his 4th top 20 finish this season. 27. 18fan posted: 10.20.2009 - 12:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This weekend David Gilliland proved why he's doing start and parks in Cup. To me he's better than Keselowski. Bliss probably will get stuck with a crappy ride because everybody wants a young gun in their car. He drove most of the Cup schedule in 2000 with a crappy team and then drove the 0 Haas car in 2005 which was not only crap but him moving up to drive for them practically ended Ward Burton's Cup career save his mediocre comeback with MMM. He finished 10th in his first start for Haas in 2004, and that year made 2 starts for JGR in an at-the-time 3rd part time car and finished 4th at Richmond. In 2006 he went back to Trucks and his 2003 Truck championship team, won a race and finished 11th in points. He also ran a handful of Nationwide and Cup races for crap teams. In 2007 he drove most of the schedule in Nationwide with Fitz and in Trucks with BHR and did great with both of them. In 2008 he ditched Fitz for Phoenix Racing and ended up top five in points. In 2009 he got Phoenix Racing their first win since 2005, got canned and not only gave crappy teams like the 40, 87 and 81 top 20 finishes but gave the 11 CJM team their best finish of 2nd twice in just 2 starts. And that resume might not get him a good ride next year. 29.
