I expect Carl Edwards to win the title next year since Kyle will not be racing full time in the Nationwide series. Casey Mears finished 2nd despite the fact he didn't practice in the 29 car. Jeff Burton was supposed to be racing in the 29 car today, but didn't due to a crash. 2. Dodge posted: 11.07.2009 - 4:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tough break for Morgan. Kyle needs a 15th place finish at Phoenix or a 34th place average finish to win the title. Kyle shouldn't race next year very much in Nationwide so he can focus on Cup more. 4. Seriously, what is Kryle trying to prove? He just looks ridiculous. Especially considering how he has struggled on the Cup side. They just made a crew chief change, so I think I'd be trying to get some momentum built up over there for 2010. These Truck and Busch wins are meaningless. 11. Many of those guys fielded their own cars to run Busch races, while those who run today run for Cup teams, with Cup crews pitting/working on the cars. In the past, it was mostly just the smaller teams that ran the full Busch schedule. Also, there were more stand alone races for the Busch Series years ago, which gave the series its own identity. I also don't recall too many cup drivers replacing Busch-only drivers that were in the top ten in point, nor do I remember guys in the top 15 in points being forced to start-and-park because they can't find a ride. Except for a select few races (like Daytona and Charlotte), there were no more than a few Cup guys running any of the Busch races. Except for the stand alone races, roughly a quarter of the field will run the Cup race the next day. Combine that with the 8-10 start-and-parks, and the result is a glorified Cup exhibition. Tickets for these races should be the same as Cup practices, because that's basically what they are. 22. "Brad Keselowski's first race as a Buschwacker." Wouldn't he have to be a full-time competitor in the Cup Series to be considered a Buschwacker? After running these three races in the 12 car his Cup season will have a grand total of 15 starts. Less than half of a Cup season. And if it isn't by the above standard you're going by, he's been a Buschwacker since this race last year. 24. Most people remember you for winning the CUP title. But then again, his struggles in Cup this year probably make him feel better about a Nationwide or Truck win. And for the record, I would be saying this about ANY driver. Carl Edwards is one of my favorite drivers, but when he wins in Nationwide I don't consider it to be that significant. 25. DaleSrFanForever posted: 11.08.2009 - 10:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) RR, your post was dead on. One other thing to add: For those guys it was a source of supplemental income. They didn't make the huge bucks in Winston Cup that they make today. It was a way of securing their future. Plus the Busch schedule had a ton of stand alone races back then at tracks the Cup guys didn't race at (Hickory, Myrtle Beach, South Boston, Orange County). The Cup guys who do it nowadays are doing it purely for ego. Just to hog the spotlight. I guess with Jimmie Johnson rountinely beating the living shit out of all of them, they have to dominate SOMETHING so they don't feel so inferior. "Hardly anyone is going to remember what you do in the lower series while you are a Cup regular." Exactly. Kevin Harvick won two Busch championships while also running a full Cup schedule. And hardly anyone gives a shit about that. He is just "that guy who hasn't won in almost three years". 26. BKBroila88 posted: 11.08.2009 - 12:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Michael Annett did not have a nose on him high, and it was the exit of the corner. Annett had a run all of turn 2 and off, and the closing rate was the same. He should've just gone a lane higher instead of trying to run as low as he could and straight into the back of Wallace off the corner. It's the exit... the car on the bottom will always slide up, even when a car is above him. You originally said that Steve wiped out in turn 2 and took Annett with him. I contested that, so you change it to a racing deal. Annett's one of the habitual wreckers of the Nationwide series yet no one gets on his case. I guess people look for the easy target. 27. If he wins out he could again tie his and Sam Ard's record for most wins in a season. Casey Mears finishes 2nd in his first Nationwide race since 2007 after subbing in for Jeff Burton who didn't run because of a wreck in Cup practice. It's impressive considering Jeff Burton only has 1 top five in his 12 races in the 29. I wish Mears could've won the race. Leffler had his 2nd straight 3rd place finish to tie a career high in top fives in a season with 8. He had 8 top fives in 2004 but he missed the last 7 races of the season when Haas fired him after he announced his 2005 Cup deal with JGR. Brad Keselowski has 22 top tens in his last 23 races. Mike Bliss had his 4th top ten in 4 starts in the 11 car. His average finish is 4.5 in those races. James Buescher finished 11th in his first race in the Phoenix Racing 1 car, his full time ride in 2010. Justin Allgaier's point lead in the ROTY standings is down to 8 points over Brendan Gaughan with just 2 races to go. But Gaughan has said that he needs to win a race to have a shot at ROTY since the end-of-year panel will favour Allgaier due to Gaughan's years of experience in Trucks and his full season in Cup. 40. If he had run the full season this year he would've been right up there in the NNS ROTY battle and he's a proven winner in the Trucks. But Colin's run just as well in the Trucks this year as Darnell ever did; look at the last few seasons when Darnell had Mark Martin and then Travis Kvapil as teammates, he pretty much ran 2nd to them. Last year he was the experienced driver and because of that he was "the guy" and finally had a really good year while Colin Braun ran 2nd to him as a rookie. This year it's Colin all alone and compared to Darnell last year he has two races to go but as many wins (1), one fewer top five (8 compared to 9), one more top ten (13 to 12), 2 more poles (4 to 2) and he's equal in the standings (5th). 45. Which is exactly why Brad's decision to leave the #88 Nationwide car and go to an average Cup team and a new Nationwide team all the more questionable. Right now he pretty much has Carl matched in points, they have the same number of wins and top 5 and top 10s. If he puts up similar numbers next year he could very easily win the championship.
