Overall, it was an exciting race with some good battles all the way through. Really good run on the #01 team of Mike Wallace too, if that team ever gets proper funding, they could be pretty good...and Mike still has it too 2. Although it seems NASCAR's attendance people are a little more realistic at SMI tracks than they are at ISC tracks... Good race, good to see some nationwide only guys do so well. Harvick has quite a hole to dig out off but if he does indeed run the full schedule I think he can challenge Edwards. 3. posted posted: 02.27.2010 - 10:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kelly Bires crashed on lap 5, and missed the first race, and he's still ahead of his teammate in the standings who ran all 3 races. 4. We'll i hope he apologized too his crew for ripping them a new one on the radio. WTG too Trevor Bayne and Justin Allgaier. Just would have caught Denny if the caution didn't come out. Trevor just impressed me today. Steve Wallace gets another top 10. Keep up the good work Steve. I guess that switch too Toyota has helped RWI. When was the last time Las Vegas had rain during the NASCAR season? I can't remember any past races where the rain delayied the race. 5. And speaking of crash, John Wrecks Weekly didn't spin or crash, rather he led 10 straight laps and recorded his best career finish. McDowell thankfully wrecked DP, so now we won't have to hear about her until June, thankfully. Mike Wallace gets another good finish, and Scott Riggs has 3 straight lead lap finishes and is in the TOP TEN in points while driving for John Wrecks Weekly's old team. Put him in the 18, 33 or 60 and he'd win a championship. Dennis Setzer does a start and park to celebrate his 50th birthday. It's a shame start and parkers take continue to take spots away from racers like Jason Keller and Jeremy Clements. 9. How do we know if John was partying last year before a race or suffering a hangover? I think the only reason John didn't wreck because Richard has to be running out of patience with John. 10. Colin Braun was having a good run in the Top Ten till the Son of Rusty got into him and sent him on a one way ride into the wall,a real shame since both the #6 and #16 really need sponsorship if their gonna run the whole season. Great runs for Trevor Bayne, Allgaier, Steve and Mike Wallace and Scoot Riggs who's in the Top Ten in points after three races...hopefully that team gets a sponsor so they can keep running. 11. Roger should of allowed Hornish to get a couple of years in the Nationwide Series, like Tony Stewart did. Yeah, these Open wheel guys might have talent, but this is a whole new world for them. They should at least get a couple of seasons in lower series before being thrown in for a Cup ride. We seen Juan Pablo Montoya struggle before finally becoming a Chase contender. We see that Scott Speed could of benefited with a couple of years in a lower series before going into Cup (this should of been his rookie year, not last year), We see that with tons of other open wheel drivers who come on over. The Tony Stewart route is best, which is run a few seasons in lower series before making that jump. I would give Danica some time, if she is talented, she should eventually get the hang of this, and be able to run much more competitively. 27. But not before she insults Michael McDowWALL who made a mistake and took her out of 25th position. Like she has any reason to talk. I think she thinks she is actually a good driver, even though her stats suggest otherwise no matter what series she competes in. She has been given every tool to succeed, from great equipment and crew members, to a TV crew that makes every excuse in the book for her (except Brad Daughtery, you tel 'em Brad!). she is awful. Period. Nonne of the other open wheelers took to stock car racing this slow, even Sideways Sam looked a hell of a lot better. Helluva job by Justin Allgaier. It would have been cool to see what he could have done with equal tires, but his crew chief gambled that it would be rained out. James Buesher was doing good until Trevor Bayne got loose under him and cut his tire. Just a racing deal, I think he has a great future. As does Michael Annett, if he can ever get any luck. Brian Scott was running really well until he made a mistake, but he is still showing he belongs. Ho hum finish, Cup regulars battling for "supremacy". They can have their little moment of glory before JJ has them eating his dust on Sundays. BTW, classy job Kyle hitting the wall and saying "We're done, we're done". I agree excpet for one small detail. I would replace "2011" with "right now". Actually I like the way they aren't rushing him. More owners need to do this. One thing I forgot to mention: Kevin said to his pit crew over the radio "You look like a bunch of idiots out there". So what does Kevin think he looked like at the Cup race in Cali, making TWO crucial mistakes that cost him the race when he had by far the fastest car at the end, but he sped on pit road, indirectly allowing JJ to stay on the lead lap, then hit the wall with 5 laps to go (an enternity at that huge track) allowing Superman to win yet again, his 48th win while Harvick hasn't won a Cup race in over 3 years. Then he says "Jimmie has a golden horseshoe up his ass". Hey moron, you had every opportunity to win that race (and both races this year for that matter) but screwed up twice. But its different when he messes up. JJ won just because he is lucky, his pit crew messed up cause they are idiots. And the sad thing is, as this race showed, he has talent. But he is a dipshit. 29. And don't let the ratings fool you. Remember when they first came out with the cha$e and Cup ratings spiked big time? Those were casual fans tuning in to see what all the fuss was about. they eventually tuned out, as did a lot of the true fans who were crapped on to appease those casual fans. The result was the recent bottoming out of the ratings. The same thing will happen with Danicamania. The casual fans that have tuned in will realize that they don't like racing, and that the person they tuned in to see really sucks, and the true fans will be totally turned off by the way they all but stopped the sport to focus on her running 30th. 36. Same with Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton, RCR only has JWT running full time. Biffle's driving for Baker-Curb but only for about 14 races pending more sponsorship. BTW nice to see Biffle giving them the good runs they didn't have the last couple seasons. The #5 JRM team has been replaced by the #7 for just Danica. Dale Jr.'s making minimal starts, don't know if Mark Martin or Johnson will be running any this year. All that's contributed to fewer Buschwhackers on average and better opportunities for regulars like Bayne, Allgaier and Scott. This is probably the best bunch of younger NNS regulars we've had since 2005 with Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Reed Sorenson, Clint Bowyer, Paul Menard and JJ Yeley. Talon64 posted: 03.01.2010 - 6:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kevin Harvick's 35th career win puts him 13 behind Mark Martin for the most in Nationwide Series history. It's his 3rd NNS win in his own equipment and 7th NNS win as an owner. After going his first 6 starts of 2009 without even a top ten, this was Hamlin's 2nd straight top five dating back to 2009. This was Carl Edwards' 90th career top five and 15th straight top ten dating back to last season. Brad Keselowski won his 4th career pole and is off to his best start to a season in NNS; he was 19th in 2008, outside the top 20 in 2009 but is 2nd this season. I didn't think Penske would be good enough to compete with Carl this season but thankfully I was dead wrong. This is the 2nd straight season that Vickers has started the year with 3 straight top tens in the #32 Braun car. Trevor Bayne finished a career-high 6th, his 3rd career top ten in 18 starts. This is the 2nd time that Allgaier's put together 3 straight top tens (Vegas, Bristol and Texas early in 2009). Penske drivers sit 2nd and 4th in the standings. Steve Wallace is on a streak of 5 straight top tens dating back to last season after only having back-to-back top tens twice in his career (including back-to-back 5th's in 2008). Johnny Davis only has 23 top 20's in 323 entries as an owner but two of them have come this season with Mike Wallace. 11th at California is tied for 3rd and 12th is tied for 5th among Davis' best finishes as an owner. RAB Racing only had 8 top 20's in 32 starts before this season. Scott Riggs has finished 16th or better in the first 3 races and sits 10th in the standings. JWT finished a career-high 15th after leading a career-high 10 laps, just the 2nd race he's ever led a lap in 32 career starts. Colin Braun was the Rookie of the Race but all 4 rookies failed to finish the race leaving Braun 28th, Buescher 29th, Stenhouse 30th and Scott 31st. Danica Patrick only completed 63.6 of her laps in her first 3 Nationwide races and 65.6 percent at California and Vegas, tracks that actually matter. 44. That's why it's great that MWR is running Bayne full time this year and has shied away from running Reutimann and Waltrip like they've done in the past. And that Aarons is sponsoring Bayne and the 99 full time. They'll even be giving Ryan Truex some Nationwide starts later in the year when he turns 18. It's the teams and sponsors that are most responsible for the Buschwhacking so MWR deserves full credit for giving Bayne a chance to shine. Same with Roush with Braun and Stenhouse, although they've gotta stop running Carl full time in that series. Besides, that was 2001, during NASCAR's strongest period as far as depth of equipment and drivers. That season had a ton of different winners and a lot of different organizations going to victory lane. Hell, the team Kenny Wallace was driving for, the immortal Eel River Racing, a start up team with some funding, was trying to get into the sport and fell flat on their face in embarrassing fashion. Nowadays they could start and park easily. They missed a ton of races and folded (side note: the team Kenny left, the #55 Andy Petree Racing car won a race with Bobby Hamilton while Kenny was missing half the shows. Embarrassing.) Now compare that to the current Nationwide Series Danica is entering. She has a fully funded team crew chiefed by Tony Eury Jr in a VERY watered down series. She isn't even in the ballpark. She is getting LAPPED on big tracks very quickly. 51. DaleSrFanForever posted: 03.02.2010 - 10:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "And how did Kevin screw up at Daytona?" He did the same thing Tony did in 2008, he moved to pick up the wrong line putting back in the mess. "Then Carl can continue to collect useless Nationwide championships like his 2007 one." For drivers like him, Kyle, and Kevin, it takes their mind off the fact the #48 keeps blowing them off the track in the races that truly matter, and that even when they have faster cars, they can't seal the deal quite like Jimmie (whom I'm no fan of, but a fact is a fact). It allows them to inflate their "NASCAR win total" and feel better about themselves by pretending it is a big deal, and maybe even pretending Jimmie and Chad entered a car in those races. But the fact is, their double dipping is holding them back. Rusty's Boy in the Richmond Cup race? All cha$e hopefuls better have their spot in the Top 12 secured before that race, cause there is a good chance they will get taken out. Yes, I know He has curbed the crashing in the NWide Series (which would be like John Darby getting less ugly, he can only improve) but he still isn't running up in the Top 5 at times like Justin Algaier, Brian Scott, and Trevor Bayne. 52. It turned out it was just a rumor, RWI denied it and said they don't plan on running any Cup races anytime soon. 53. Not only was that a rumor as Talon mentioned, he planned to make his debut in the spring Richmond race which takes eliminating a cha$er out of the equation. Even if he were to make his debut, he can't do any worse than Papis, Ragan, Conway, or Spinning Sam. 54. I'd say that Trevor Bayne even has a better chance at winning the title than Paul Menard, despite not having a bunch of starts yet. 55. You know, I never thought of this but this does make a lot of sense. Dodge getting back into the sport and making a resurgence for several drivers has a lot to do with it. Ironically, I think 2001 and 2002 was pretty much Dodge's peak in NASCAR. They kind of got screwed over on a nose template rule (if I remember correctly) and slid downwards, never recovering. I'm surprised they haven't pulled out of the sport entirely. Most of those teams in '01 have either folded or merged together. 56. You don't know shit, Bronco. Dale Earnhardt's wreck was as serious as it gets: he DIED. 57.
