First win for Dodge since Kahne won the night Bristol race in 2007. Justin should take over the 77 next year and hopefully Sideways Sam's NASCAR experiment will come to an end. Good for JR Motorsports to put a deserving guy like Scott Wimmer in the car instead of a Cup driver. Scott delivered a great run for the team, too bad Godaddy was stupid enough to not sponsor him. 6. And it is Rogers second 1-2 finish in a race, his first was the 08 Daytona 500. Mike Bliss continues too show James Finch that he is a moron. Kevin Harvick (after having at it with Karl E.) dumps Joey. Hey, Joey when are you going too stand up for self? Or do you like been a door mat? Reed "32" Sorenson, Mike Bliss, Jason Leffler and Scott Wimmer get top 10's. 9. Luckily everyone is ok. Great job to Allgaier, really rooting for him at the end. Also of note, scary crash in the Legends race afterwards. Larry Pearson blew a left rear and backed into the wall...he roleld down the track and was t-boned at full speed by Charlie Glotzbach. (70years old)...Glotzbachs car caught fire as the entire front was gone..he was knocked unconcious at first but then he was helped from the car and given oxygen. He was taken to the hospital just to be safe. Very scary with Perason though, unconciouss for sometime he was cut from the car and placed on a backboard. He was awake and alert afterwards but no immidiate update on his condition. Hopefully hes ok, but just glad to hear hes alive after how long of a wait there was. Marty Reid seemed quite shaken, as it was a scary situation. 10. dUDE gUY posted: 03.20.2010 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Nice move on the final restart by Allgaier. He drove hard into the first corner under Keselowski, and he made it stick. He drove his ass off the next 20+ laps to keep Keselowski behind him. Not to mention he did all this after starting the day in 30th place! Congrats to Allgaier and the 12 team, they really deserved this one. 11. Read at your own risk. After hearing about that accident, hopefully this is the end of the legends race. Sure it was at a start, but these drivers are too old to be getting in race cars. What a win for Justin Allgaier! Man I was chearing for him so hard! This gives me a little hope maybe nationwide regulars have a chance at winning...maybe. What's even better news than that, is that Allgaier is just 5 points behind Keselowski in standings. And 31 [I think] behind Edwards. sadly this is only after 4 races, and not 15. "Notes: Harvick right up there with some of series' all-time greats" When I saw this on nascar.com, saying that Harvick was one of the nationwide series greats, I almost threw up. Forget about Jack Ingram, Sam Ard, Jason Keller, David Green, Mike McGlaughlin, etc.. No let's put a full time cup regular as one of the series all time greats. Who, for most of the years, was racing in Richard Childress equipment. Man what Jason Keller did to Jon Wrecks Weekly [I can't help it the name is too catchy] was awesome! [after I saw Jon was ok]. Talking about Jason Keller, even though it was amazing Keller got 8 top 10's with that 27 car in the 09 spring cup jv series, Greg Biffle is doing a lot better. I think we should him Greg congrads for doing so good in the #27. After all, Keller did have some sponcership for 09. Sure biffle has more, but still he is doing really good in the 27. One more thing, sure people are going to say, "oh Keselowski didn't wreck Allgaier bump Allgaier because he is his teamate" I disagree. I could be wrong, but I just have a gut feeling Keselowski said to himself "I'm not going to give Allgaier the win, but I'm also not doing to do whatever it takes to win because Allgaier is a great guy and he desverves his first nationwide win". But that's just me. I could be wrong. And I'm not saying that was a bad thing that he did it. I think it's a good thing. 15. He just flat out beat my guy, Brad Keselowski, on that restart. Yeah, I said it, he BEAT Brad and then held him at bay. That's the first of many for Justin. But Brad's team did a good job too. The car wasn't very good early, but they fixed it and he was a contender at the end. They have done that in every race. They need to figure out how to do that to his Cup car. Outstanding job by Scott Wimmer. It was weird to see that bright green #7 car in the Top 10. Good run by Kelly Bired spoiled by Kryle Busch dumping him. When somebody touches him, he acts like he's been violated. And Harvick dumped Logano on the last lap supposedly for blocking him. So when Brad makes contact by holding his line when someone tries to block him (Denny NWide Dover last year, Carl Atlanta Cup this year) it is "aggression", but Harvick flat out dumps Joey in retaliation for earlier blocks, and it is OK. I don't get it. Besides, if you are the CUP SERIES points leader, it isn't in your best interest to dump a fellow Cup driver and start yet another feud. But that's Harvick for you. 19. Everyone gets involved in dust ups every now and then. It's just that the people he tangles with are the most mentally unstable people out there (Denny, Carl). So then other mentally unstable people like Kryle Busch and Juan Pablo Buckner have to speak against him cause they are like a pack mentally ill brothers or something. What a joke. "When I saw this on nascar.com, saying that Harvick was one of the nationwide series greats, I almost threw up." Me too. We should start calling him "Mr. Nationwide" cause he hasn't won in Cup in over 3 years. There was some major flaws in the legends races that would make a younger driver get seriously hurt from a safety standpoint. I watched the legends race on espn 2 live. According the commentators on Espn 2, there was no spotters. The other problem is the lack of safety equipment the cars or the drivers had in the legends race. What I mean by lack of safety equipment is no head & neck restraints, drivers used open face helmets. It also sounded like the cars were not built as well as the cup and Nationwide cars for safety purposes either. 23. 12345Dude posted: 03.20.2010 - 10:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "but Harvick flat out dumps Joey in retaliation for earlier blocks, and it is OK. And given the fact that they're not fully funded, they're not exactly making a convincing case for Conway and Citifinancial to sponsor additional races. Sucks to see Scott Riggs miss the race after having 3 straight top 15s and coming into the race 10th in points. I wish NASCAR would do something about S&P teams who have no intention of ever running a complete race. "You are absolutely right. Everyone gets involved in dust ups every now and then." Sorry, but got to disagree with you on this. Brad has been involved in more dust ups in the last year than most Cup drivers will be involved with in their entire careers. I don't see guys like Johnson, Martin, Kenseth, Gordon, Burton etc. having any dust ups with anyone. Know why? Because they respect others, and they get respect in return. Today Brad showed that last week's trip to the wall and the subsequent meeting with NASCAR did him some good, because he drove a clean race and respected his teammate enough to not ruin both their chances of winning with a bad move. "It's just that the people he tangles with are the most mentally unstable people out there (Denny, Carl)." Now Kryle and Harvick and Carl won't get to have their brief moment in the sun before being reminded that they are nothing but supporting characters in the Jimmie Johnson show (a title he has earned). Justin didn't allow them to take their minds off the fact that they will have to watch JJ accept the Cup Championship trophy for the fifth consecutive year. What a schmuck! :) (RLewis, you rule!) "If you consider standing up for themselves and telling Brad that they're not going to be shoved around to be unstable, then yeah, Carl and Denny are definitely unstable." Actually Brad is the one standing up for himself. In both cases, he had position under Denny ('09 Dover NWide) and Carl ('10 Atlanta Cup, where Carl's spotter informed him THREE TIMES that the #12 was under him) and they cut down on him. It's like Brad said, if he were to lift, that isn't "give and take", that is being pushed around. It is just that these kids got so famous and so rich so fast, they let it get to their heads. They have ass kissers hanging all around them telling them they are the best and everyone else should just be glad to be on the racetrack with them (even though JJ routinely kicks their ass), so when somebody actually RACES them, they throw a hissy fit. And Phoenix '09 was straight out of Big E's playbook. Denny knocked Brad out of the way in Turn 1, so Brad hit him entering Turn 3, then hit him again in Turn 4. It is like Darrell Waltrip always said about Dale, you hit him once, he'd hit you twice. Am I saying Brad is in Earnhardt's league? No. Only Pearson is. Bristol 2009 - Slammed into Justin Allgaier and cut his tire down, At least he admitted it was his fault later on. 3. Talladega 2009 - Perhaps his most costly wreck yet, he turned Kurt Busch (another future teammate) around on the GWC and collected a ton of other cars. (Cfob will undoubtedly try and defend this, haha) 5. Phoenix 2009 - Denny bumped him once, so Krashalotski decided to hit him twice and spin him out in the middle of traffic. Jason Ratcliff made his payback prediction in this race, and a few months later the exact same thing happened. Last week, Krashalotski also admitted he took things too far in this race as well. And remember, Krashalotski started everything the second he bumped Denny under caution at Charlotte two years ago, all because he didn't like the way he was being raced. When Denny slammed into his fender, he decided to have all 3 JR Motorsports crews start a brawl with the 20 team (instead of having the decency to come talk to Denny) even though the damage didn't affect his finish at all. Krashalotski just strikes me as a talented driver who was lucky enough to land a ride with a great team. However, he let the fame and recognition that comes with driving for the MPD go to his head, and after that Talladega win last year he basically thought he could race however he wanted, all in the name of racing hard and making it exciting. Hopefully Carl and NASCAR showed him that you can still be successful in the sport without pissing people off all the time. 46. Watto posted: 03.21.2010 - 2:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "1. That may have been the case with the Talladega and Atlanta wrecks, but at IRP all Krashalotski had to do was cut a rookie a bit of slack. Seeing as how there were 180 laps remaining in the race, I don't exactly think that's asking for too much. "Hamlin decided to tear off his fender and ruin his chance at winning his first race. And I seriously doubt he told his crew to attack Hamlin, I'm sure they were just mad that their race got ruined." Shrub had dominated the race up until that point, so no, Krashalotski didn't have a chance at winning his first race. For his crew to attack the 20 team is pretty stupid as well, since he still finished where he was running that night and even admitted that the damage didnt affect anything. 51. Brad Keselowski is off to his best start to a Nationwide Series season yet; he was 11th in 2008 and 15th in 2009 after 4 races. Back-to-back poles already ties his career high in a season set last year. Kevin Harvick's 123rd career top five ties him with Tommy Houston for the most in series history. The next active driver is Matt Kenseth who's 4th with 116. Reed Sorenson got his 5th top ten in 6 races with Braun Racing dating back to last season and 3rd finish of 7th or better in 3 starts in the #32. Reed will be attempting the Texas Cup race in the #32 Braun entry. Mike Bliss's 8th is Key Motorsport's 6th top ten in 76 entries. Tommy Ellis got Curtis Key his only top five finish in Key's first Nationwide entry, a 5th at Hickory in 1993. Paul Menard has yet to finish outside the top 20 in any of his NASCAR starts this season; 4 in Nationwide and 5 in Cup. With a 2nd Baker-Curb entry that was formed literally just before the start of the season, Lagasse Jr. has 3 straight finishes of 17th or better to sit 13th in the standings. 2007 Truck Series ROTY Willie Allen finished an NNS career-high 15th. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the Rookie of the Race in 25th. It's the 2nd straight race that no rookie has finished better than that. 54. That's why Reutimann won the Coke 600 last year. He and his crew knew the rain was coming, so Reut tried to gain as many spots as he could, but didn't gain very many. He did catch a break when the final caution came out, and everyone in front of him pitted. I can understand it when it is early in the race, and there's no need to race that way at the start of the race, no. DaleSrFanForever posted: 03.27.2010 - 11:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @ post #70 I think as far as a one year peak, NASCAR's competitiveness peaked in 2001. A ton of different drivers winning for a ton of different teams. Gordon dominated the points standings and also had the most wins with 6. But he was the only HMS driver to do anything worth a flip that year. Andy Petree Racing got their only wins with Hamilton Sr and Nemechek. Cal Wells got one of his two wins with Craven. Drunktrip won, as did Steve Park, and Dale Jr (that was before he changed his name) won 3 times. Yates was strong with Rudd and DJ getting multiple wins, but not dominating. Stewart had a pedestrian (for him) 3 wins, Labonte won twice. Rusty got a win for the Captain, and Ward won for Bill Davis. Harvick won twice and Robby Gordon got his only non road course win. Awesome Bill won for Evernham's start up team. And Sterling won twice, which was awesome. Nobody realy stood out. It should have gone down in history as one of the best years for NASCAR ever, but the last lap of the first race put a cloud over that season. Kinda like how 1993 had some of the best racing I have ever seen, but it was definitely a clouded year. But overall, it wasn't that great of an "era" with a few notable exceptions. 1996 through 1999 was the Hendrick (Gordon and Labonte) and Roush (Mark and Burton) show for the most part. They had great battles amongst each other, but they were clearly the powerhouses. Now 2000 through 2003 were competitive. There was no clear dominators over any of those years. Hendrick, Roush, JGR, DEI, Childress, Ganassi, Penske, and Yates all had some really brilliant stretches, but never really pulled away. Even fringe teams like Bill Davis, Cal Wells, and MB2 had to be reckoned with from time to time. But, beginning with 2004, NASCAR went straight to hell. '04 to '06 was the HMS/Roush show big time, with only Tony Stewart competing with them week to week when his head was on right. JJ was becoming Superman, and with NASCAR getting rid of tough handling tracks like Rockingham and Darlington, and moving dates to engineering tracks like Cali and Texas, it became all about $$$. It was, for the most part, HMS, Roush, JGR, or bust. DEI and Childress showed momentary power to battle them, but it rarely lasted. And 2007 to present is by far the least competitive period I have ever seen. NASCAR can spin the numbers any way they want with their socialist welfare system of rules (lucky dogs, wave arounds, phantom cautions, double file restarts, etc) but this has clearly been the JJ and to a lesser extent HMS era. The #48 team simply has no equal. Nobody can challenge them for more than one year (hopefully Mark changes that this year). Gordon, Edwards, Hamlin, Stewart, they seem to rise up, but then they get blown away by JJ. Worst era yet.* But anyways, from the mid 80s to the mid 90s is my pick. So many great drivers in their primes (or close to it) at one point or another (Earnhardt, Rusty, Bill, Handsome Harry, Mark, Rudd, Bodine, Richmond, Darrell, Bonnett, Ernie, Bobby Allison, Davey Allison, Kulwicki, Terry Labonte, Kyle Petty) and so many teams, you just never knew from week to week. An amazing time to be a NASCAR fan. And they only ran 28 or 29 races a year during that time!!! *I'm not gonna penalize the Richard Petty era. If the championship meant more and they didn't run 50 races a year, then David Pearson would have entered every race, AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ON!!!!!! Every week. So would a lot of other great teams and drivers (the Allisons, Yarborough, Buddy, Isaac, etc). Also Pearson would have won at least 10 championships. 72. How could the late 90s and early 00s possibly be considered the most competitive era? Part of the reason Jeff Gordon won so much is because he DIDN'T have a lot of competition outside of Dale Jarrett in that era. Go back to the late 80s and early 90s, which was WAY more competitive. Kyle Petty was racing for championships back then with a second-rate Sabco team! Bill Elliott and Rusty Wallace were at the peak of their careers. Harry Gant didn't know when to quit. Alan Kulwicki won a CHAMPIONSHIP on a shoe string budget doing a lot of the work himself. And of course Davey Allison, Tim Richmond, Mark Martin, and Dale Earnhardt. Then go to the late 90s... Kyle Petty was non-existent with a third-rate team, Bill Elliott ran as an owner-driver with no wins, Rusty Wallace won here and there, Harry Gant was retired, Kulwicki, Richmond, and Allison passed on too soon, Earnhardt wasn't quite as dominant, leaving Mark Martin as well as adding Bobby Labonte and Dale Jarrett. Easy to see that part of the reason Jeff Gordon did so well is because the competition started to die down in the late 90s. There wasn't a real resurgence until 2001, which only lasted a few seasons. A lot of the drivers in the late 90s and early 00s had their best seasons in the late 80s and early 90s. Notable exceptions being Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott (in the #9 car), and Dale Jarrett. The drivers we have now that are good were barely starting out in the early 00s. 73. I think the thing that makes the late 80s early 90s look not as competitive is Earnhardt's domination. If you took him out of the equation, it would look more scrambled than the early '00s. And of the 6 championships he won during that period, only 1987 was really a dominating year. That was the only year Dale had the best car, the rest of the time he just grinded them down. RCR did exactly what they needed to do: build bulletproof equipment. That meant the cars weren't as fast as their main competitors, but with what they had between the seat and the steering wheel, it didn't matter. Without Dale, from '86 to '95, Darrell gets his fourth championship (and only on from this era) as a lame duck driver with Junior Johnson, Rusty gets a 2nd championship driving for Penske to go with the one he won with Blue Max, Awesome Bill wins back to back ('87-'88), Mark Martin wins two championships ('90 and '94), Ricky Rudd gets the HMS dynasty started early in 1991, and Alan Kulwicki wins as an independent on a shoestring budget in 1992, which he did anyways while Dale and his team acted like monkeys playing football for most of the year. Looks a lot more random now, doesn't it? But again, I respect your opinion and understand it. 77. martin-n-rusty posted: 03.30.2010 - 5:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, that is the big thing.
