"Keselowski went to the infield care center after a late wreck in the Cup race. Doctors measured his carbon monoxide level at 13, far in excess of the allowable 5. Intense oxygen treatment finally brought his carbon monoxide level into the acceptable range, moments before the command to start engines." From NASCAR.com 4. Brad was about 6th/7th with 1 to go, and somehow managed to win by turn 3. Brad who was involved in a wreck in the Sprint Cup race before had been exposed to a good amount of Carbon Monoxide which saw his rate rise to 13 which is 3 times the limit that NASCAR allows a driver to race. Brad wore an oxygen mask for a good amount of his break to lower is CO. He then was allowed to race about 5 minutes to race time. There were 3 wrecks with a combined 30 victims in total. Dennis Setzer took a wild ride into the catch fence in turn 4. John Borneman records an impressive 5th place finish setting his career best which was a 16th at Iowa. Overall the greatest day of racing in NASCAR history. Over 800 miles of racing at Talladega, 2 last lap passes, over 40 wrecked cars, a destroyed fence and 4 GWC. I won't sleep tonight. 5. 12345Dude posted: 04.25.2010 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I thought Dennis Setzer was dead. Wow. We are really lucky. Hope he is alright. Another interesting thought. For all the people and cup drivers that think that the cup guys dominating this series is good. And that the economy is the reason, a lot of young talent don't have rides. Explain the 88 deal. Hellman's is still the sponcer. Great runs by Jason Keller and John Borneman III. Also why has ESPN announcers FINALLY start talking about drivers that weren't named Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, or Steve Wallace. I think someone finally told them that there were other drivers in the field. Now I can stop turning mute on my TV. 6. Jason Keller gets a 4th for his underfunded team, his first since Gateway 2008. Colin Braun has 5 DNFs in 8 races this year, average finish 28th and no top 10s. Is it any wonder that he's being pulled from the car? Ricky Suckhouse spun Carl Edwards in the trioval and I wouldn't be surprised to see him benched as well. Huge wreck at the end triggered by Big Mac by misjudging the position of the 21 and trying to blend in. Setzer's crash looked like Ricky Craven's crash in 1996, glad he was ok. Tony Raines finishes in the top 10 in this race for the second straight year, while Kenny Wallace gets his best finish of the year. 3rd straight Nationwide race that a JR Motorsports car took the white in 2nd but didn't win the race. All the talking heads want to talk about the COT and how it is the be all end all for safety measures, but seeing drivers walk away from these wrecks show that the seats, HANS devices, and soft walls are the biggest keys to driver safety. And secondly: Yet another f*** you to Kryle Busch. His interview was ridiculous. He didn't take the blame for anything. His car was overheating due to "poor preparation". No, it was because you bump drafted the hell out of people, bending in your front bumper. He got clipped in the rear pitting because "somebody ran all over him". No, it was because he was two lanes up on the track while slowing to pit. And most comically, "somebody just broadsided HIM" in that last wreck. The replay clearly shows him yanking his car HARD to the right and plowing into another car. Kryle Busch: You are a piece of shit. You act like a 12 year old and there is no excuse for it. And congrats to Brad for finally getting a win for the Captain in a season full of good runs. Him, Paul Wolfe, and that whole team have done such a great job every week, especially for a start up team. Hopefully some of that will spill into the Cup program. 10. Damn, wrecking your championship contending teammate should be far more reason to be kicked from your ride than just wrecking your fellow rookie teammate. Colin's more talented than Ricky and has shown more in tougher series; a win and top five in points last year in Trucks is better than a couple wins and throwing away an ARCA championship. Congrats to Keselowski on his first win with Penske. With Harvick's and Busch's chances of running full time still up in the air, his "real" point lead is 153 over his teammate Justin Allgaier, and he's 213 points up on Carl Edwards. It could be 25-50 points less if he gets penalized for the shocks but it's still a pretty big lead this early in the season. I shouldn't be as surprised as I am that Penske's running so well, the last time they put any kind of effort into a Nationwide program they won 8 races in 24 starts between 2005 and 2006. And bigger congrats to NASCAR West Series regular Johnny Borneman III for his first top ten in Nationwide, and a 5th to boot! The #83 team's owned by his father, JB Jr. 31. He's also just the 9th driver to win in both Nationwide and Cup at Talladega. In Penske's first year of fielding two cars both have gone to victory lane this year. Joey Logano finishes 2nd for a second straight race. His 36th top ten in 48 career starts gives him a 75% rate of finishing in the top ten. Kevin Harvick won the Talladega 812 after winning the Cup race and then finishing 3rd in the Nationwide race. It's his 6th straight top five, longest streak since 7 straight last season, and 7th of the year which matches Keselowski for the most so far this season. Jason Keller finishes in the top five for the first time since Gateway in 2008 while driving for CJM. It's TriStar Motorsports' first top five in just it's 5th start (DNQ'ed 3 races). Johnny Borneman III, a 3 time winner in the NASCAR West Series and longtime competitor, got his first top ten in 17 career Nationwide starts with a 5th place finish for his family-owned team. Clint Bowyer gets RCR it's first top ten in Nationwide this year with a 6th place finish. Tony Raines' 7th is his first top ten in the last 12 races. Paul Menard finished in the top 10 for a 3rd straight race, first time since 2007 while still with DEI. Brian Vickers gives the #32 Braun car it's 7th top ten in 8 races this year, it's worst finish being 12th. It's one of only 4 teams to have 7 top tens this year and is currently 5th in the owners standings, 121 points behind the #22. Brian Scott, the highest finishing rookie, gets his 2nd top ten of the year, tying his career best with a 10th, and moves up to 8th in the points standings. Kenny Wallace finishes in the top 20 for just the 3rd time in 8 races this season. Scott Wimmer finishes outside of the top 10 for the first time in 3 starts this year but 12th makes it 7 straight top 20 finishes for the #27 Baker Curb team. ARCA regular Patrick Sheltra finished a career-high 18th in his 5th career Nationwide start. Chrissy Wallace made her 2nd career start, finishing 24th. Canadian Steve Arpin made his Nationwide debut for JRM, but was involved in a wreck and finished 26th after qualifying 4th. 33. He claimed he was on the brakes and was just pushed into Edward's car and there was nothing he could do. Now, look at the replay. The helicopter shot shows it best, Shelby Howard was a good two feet off of Stenhouse all the way down the front stretch and through the trioval. No contact at all. After I heard his interview, I knew it was hogwash and had to check it out for myself. Sure enough, just as the past has proved time and time again, Stenhouse is a wreckless danger on the track. He just seems to have problem knowing when the front of his car starts and where his talent ends. Stenhouse was never in Trucks and Braun ran just as well as Darnell ever did: a win, identical results and top five in points in each of their best seasons. It's probably my tin foil hat speaking here but how come Stenhouse, Braun and Darnell did pretty well in part-time efforts when they shared a ride with the Roush Cup drivers but now Stenhouse and Braun are wallowing in their full time rides? The wrecks have disguised the fact that they haven't run very well otherwise. In other words, does Jack put more effort into his Cup drivers' Nationwide efforts than his teams for his rookies? It's like he's got an anti-developmental program where he's already got his Cup drivers so he throws his rookie drivers under the bus so they're worthless to other teams. Todd Kluever and Danny O'Quinn have already been thrown under the bus and can't get a decent ride to save their lives, and now it's Stenhouse's and Braun's turn while he keeps possibly the best driver of them all, Darnell, on the sidelines. 42.
