This means no one can ever say "Kyle would've won the title". Brad and that team have been championship caliber all year long. Brad could have won the race, but Kyle benefited from his teammate being behind him on restarts, to make sure Brad would have to stay on the top side. Overall a pretty good race with a lot of leaders being dominant at different times. Now that we go into the separation stage of the year, some Nationwide regulars will finally get a chance to win some races and show themselves off. 4. loomer posted: 05.29.2010 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great run for Ickler(15th) in his 1st start in the #16 car. I fully expect Keselowski to dominate next week at one of his best racetracks 5. Certainly an impressive start for a brand new team. Brian Ickler's first start for Roush-Fenway Racing in the #16. Best finish of the season for Jeremy Clements & the #04 team. Carl Edwards has won three straight poles at Charlotte in the Nationwide car and a Roush-Fenway car has won the pole for 8 of the last 9 Nationwide events at Charlotte. As far as the championship goes in this series, it is certainly Keselowski's to lose with his closest competition being Edwards and Brad's teammate Allgaier who are over 250 points back. It would be Roger Penske's first NASCAR championship in any series if either of his cars wins the title. Without looking to be sure, I would also guess this would be the first Nationwide title for a Dodge team should Brad or Justin win. 6. Although he's one of my favorites, I still see him in the same group as Kevin, Kyle, Carl and Joey when it comes to double (triple in Kyle and Kevin's case) duty. Personally, I'd rather see Justin Allgaier win it since he's still only a NW regular. Newman ran a pretty good race in the 1 car. Is this the first top-5 for that team since Bliss left? Speaking of Mike Bliss, he got a respectable finish in Curtis Key's underfunded car. Brian Ickler's first start with Roush-Fenway resulted in him crashing with Steve Wallace, but he still managed to finish 15th. According to the telecast, Coleman Pressley will be in the #88 starting next week at Nashville. I wish him the best of luck, he hasn't been bad in his starts this year. 7. Cooper posted: 05.29.2010 - 7:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Remember RCRandPenskeGuy, Brad hasn't even raced 30 races in Sprint Cup, so I don't clarify him; nor Logano as "Minor League Cheaters". Also, If Brad does win this title, it makes up for the last two years of being the top Nationwide guy. If their was no "buschwacking", Brad would be a two time Nationwide champion, so winning this years title would be well deserved. 9. Timmy Quivy posted: 05.30.2010 - 10:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'll give Ickler Kudos as well, probably had a 10-12th place car before the accident though he had to limp around for the last five laps. And Jeremy Clements also deserves a shout out - 8th among NNS-only drivers! I very much enjoyed this race. Some long green flag runs, a few too many cautions at the end but B.K. really drove a great last lap and it might have been a photo finish if there were one lap remaining. By default, BK now has a 267-point lead on Carl Edwards. 12. The way I see it, Brad should have been the NWide champion the last two years. This year, he'll almost be getting the NWide title he deserves in a year in which he doesn't deserve it. But I do like Brad, and I will enjoy watching him go after it, but deep down I don't like it. Hopefully, as said earlier, he'll get it this year, and just do 10-15 races a year from here on out (which, in my opinion, is an acceptable number of NWide races for them to run, basically a Matt Kenseth NWide schedule). I must say though, part of me kinda wishes Kyle would have gone for it this year because I think Brad would beat him regardless. Remember, that is a start up NWide team he is driving for, and they are only getting stronger. The Penske Dodges are almost as fast as the Gibbs Toyotas, and a lot more consistent. It would have been fun to see Kyle go after another championship and watch him get agitated with Brad when he won't roll over for him. Another thing: I think not running all the Nwide races will really get into Kyle's head. When he has to watch the races on TV, knowing he isn't in them and could be, I think that will derail him mentally. Should be fun to watch! 13. He deserves more seat time than 1 race since turning 18. 14. Talon64 posted: 05.31.2010 - 5:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Who is going in the #18 when Busch takes off then? I hope it goes to Matt DiBenedetto rather than Hamlin or someone else. He deserves more seat time than 1 race since turning 18." DiBenedetto's driving the #20 car and Brad Coleman's driving the #18 in non-companion events. Coleman Pressley did a great job in his last couple starts in the #23 car; if it weren't Robert Richardson Jr.'s family team I'm sure Coleman would've been in the car a lot more but it doesn't matter now that he's driving the #88 for the next couple races. Despite struggling to an 11th place finish the #88 moved up to 9th in the owners standings thanks to Jamie McMurray's good work in that car. Allgaier had a great run after some troubles in his last few races; 4 top fives are already more than he had in all of his rookie season. Leffler's been a new driver thanks to a new CC, and coincidentally with a new number. Reed Sorenson's going to pick up the slack in the #32 with Brian Vickers out the rest of the year, meaning Reed should run every race the rest of the season. 8th isn't too bad but he'll have a great shot at winning in the next couple non-companion races. Maybe for the first time Trevor Bayne looked like a rookie; he started 2nd but seemed to be getting into everybody and it's a miracle he ended up as good as 17th. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wrecked AGAIN, his 5th DNF due to a crash in 12 starts this season. Ickler would've had a perfect race in terms of expectations if he hadn't gotten into Steve Wallace at the end. Ickler's 15th place finish still moved the #16 up 3 spots to 25th in the owners standings, 61 points ahead of 31st. As long as Ickler, Colin and whoever else drives the car the rest of the way can finish races they're pretty much locked in now. But the #6 car is down to 33rd, 110 points behind 30th. At this point they need Kenseth, Biffle or Ragan to jump into the car just to save their season from Wrecky. LOL 15. His 6th Charlotte win tied him with Mark Martin for most at the track. Brad Keselowski's 11th straight top ten still leaves him some short of his career best of 16 straight last season. But he's finished in the top 10 in 39 of his last 43 Nationwide starts with 31 of them in the top five. Brad Keselowski just beat out Kyle Busch for most laps led in the race, 65 to 64, which was the 10 point swing of a difference between Keselowski leading the standings or Kyle leading. Joey Logano made his 50th career Nationwide start, recording his 22nd top five and 38th top ten. Justin Allgaier's 4th place finish is his first top ten in the last 7 races after starting the year with 5 straight. 4 top fives in 2010 already top the 3 he had in all of his rookie season in 2009. This is the first time since 2006 with Mike Wallace that the #1 Phoenix Racing team's had back-to-back top fives (4th at Kentucky and 5th at Milwaukee), thanks to Ryan Newman's 2nd at Dover and 5th at Charlotte. Kevin Harvick's 10 race top ten streak is 2nd only to Keselowski's this season. Harvick's longest top 10 streak is 23 races between the last 18 races of 2006 and the first 5 of 2007. After just 1 top ten in the first 9 races of 2010, Jason Leffler has 2 top fives and 3 top ten in his last 3 starts. Reed Sorenson finishes in the top 10 for the 8th time in 9 starts in the #32 Braun car since last season. The #32 is still tied with the #22 and #33 teams for most top tens this year with 11. Carl Edward won his 20th career Nationwide pole, tying him with Kyle Busch for 6th all time. Carl's qualified in the top five in every race this year, putting his average start at 3.1. It's just his 5th top ten in the last 8 races and he's only had 1 top five in that stretch, putting his average finish at 10.1. Clint Bowyer finishes in the top 10 for just the 2nd time in 7 races in the #21 car this season. Mike Bliss finishes in the top 20 for just the 4th time in 11 races this season, but he'll be in the #33 KHI car for Nashville and Kentucky. Michael Annett's 3rd straight top 20 finish is his 8th in 12 starts this year. Jeremy Clements' 16th is the 3rd career top 20 finish in 23 starts for the former ARCA race winner. Jason Keller finishes in the top 20 for the 3rd time in the last 5 races. Brian Scott was the ROTY, albeit in a lowly 33rd. It dropped him to 11th in the driver standings. 16. Jacques won at Road America in CART and I'm sure Fellows has loads of experience there too. And then there's Ambrose to worry about at Watkins Glen and Montreal. But it's really not as much of a long shot for Colin than anyone, I'd put Colin really close if not right up there with them; he's the youngest winner ever in Grand Am and youngest driver to finish on the podium at Le Mans. 20. Uh, nope - Brad would lose his Xfinity title to Kyle Busch, if J.D. Gibbs allowed Kyle to run for the title again. Proof? Just look at the Owner's championship standings - Brad Keselowski was consistent as hell, ran all races, but still lost to #18, which was also driven by Brad Coleman and despite his finishes, it was enough to win the title. Plus, if Kyle ran all those races, his finishes would be better than Coleman's and maybe, he would even win more than 13 races. Future purposes - that's a good one... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
