I wish there was more standalone Nationwide events. Nice rebound by Coleman Pressley after spinning early in the event. 2. Ricky Stenhouse DNQ'd in the Roush #6,can't see him being in that ride for next week 3. Guys like Justin Allgaier, Mike Bliss, Reed Sorenson, Brad Coleman, Matt DiBenedetto and Tayler Malsam were able to show their stuff, and I was also impressed by Coleman Pressley's comeback to finish 12th after an earlier spin. THIS is what the Nationwide Series should be every week. 4. Willie drove his heart out, sometimes being as fast as the leader and ran as high as 13th. Brad and that team are hooked. Currently Brad has an average finish of 4.1. This would be a Nationwide Series record for average finish in a full season. This is mirroring Mark Martin's crazy season in 2000 when he averaged a 2.2 AVG finish in 13 races. And Ricky Stenhouse, please don't answer your phone this week...you're not going to like the news. 5. Instead the three Cup drivers finish 1-2-3, should've known better. 6. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.06.2010 - 10:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Outstanding job by Brad Coleman and Matt DiBenedetto. To step into those cars cold, for a team that is used to drivers with experience, they did a great job. That just shows you how good the JGR NWide cars are. Great comebacks for Coleman Pressley and Willie Allen. Coleman lost it, got some damage, but didn't give up and finished 12th. And a big "Kiss My Ass" to NASCAR for holding Willie for the first 2 laps of the race. But he made those up and finished 15th. Looks like, yet again, the NWide championship is merely a formality. At least this year it's somebody I like. I still don't like it, but I've had to watch some unlikeable people Cup drivers do this in the past (Harvick, Carl, Kyle) so I'll enjoy this one. Then hope NASCAR changes some rules or schedules for 2011. One last thing: We keep hearing all this about the "New Kyle" over and over again. How about the "New Brad"? He entered this year with a ton of controversy about his driving style, but has he even touched anyone in either Series this year? With the exception of Atlanta where Carl cut across his nose (then retaliated) I don't think he's even moved anyone in 26 combined races. Hell, the person who complained the loudest about Brad, Denny Hamlin, has caused a ton of carnage this year. I know he's winning a lot, but I hope he's having some crow with all that champagne. 7. I hope to God they don't Brad Coleman him or Aric Almirola him because kids has talent and he's going to be a Cup winner later on down the road. 8. 18fan posted: 06.06.2010 - 3:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Allgaier led the first 58 laps, not Keselowski. 9. noname posted: 06.06.2010 - 10:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Trevor Bayne seems to have some of the worst luck of anyone in this series. He ran in the top 5 for the first half of this race before making contact with Justin Allgaier and cutting down a left rear tire. Hopefully he can learn something from his tough luck because I believe he could be a solid Cup driver if he stays in good equipment. Brendan Gaughan ran in the top 10 for a large portion of the last half of the race before getting into Eric McClure on pit road and going to the tail end of the lead lap on the last caution. 10. Brad started 24th which is the lowest any winner has started at Nashville. Michael Waltrip previously held the record, winning from 22nd in 2004. Through 13 races, Brad has completed every lap run this season while his teammate Justin Allgaier has completed all but 1 lap so far this season. Carl Edwards tied Clint Bowyer for most top 5s (nine) in Nashville Superspeedway history. Paul Menard's first top 5 of the season. Steve Wallace because the driver highest in points without a top 5 finish this season. Most laps led Justin Allgaier has ever led in one Nationwide series race. Justin has now led more laps this year than he did all of last season. First top 5 of the season for Mike Bliss. Reed Sorenson led laps for the first time this season. Scott Riggs' first start in the Nationwide Series since 2007 and first top ten in the series since Richmond in 2006. First career top 10 for Matt DiBenedetto. First career start for Tayler Malsam. Third start in a row that Coleman Pressley has improved his career best finish, each time gaining three postions on his previous career best. Best finish of the season for Josh Wise making his first start for JR Motorsports. Sean Caisse gets his career best finish in his first Nationwide start in nearly a year. Second lead lap finish of the season for Eric McClure, the other lead lap finish came at Daytona. Surprisingly, McClure ranks fourth in most laps completed this season in the Nationwide Series. McClure has actually completed more laps than Carl Edwards so far this year by having 0 DNFs. Jarit Johnson, brother of Jimmie Johnson, makes his 2010 season debut driving for Joe Nemechek. Ricky Stenhouse's DNQ appears to be the first time a Roush car has DNQ'ed for a Nationwide race since Matt Kenseth at Dover in 2005 when qualifying was rained out. Kenseth also DNQ'ed on speed at Daytona in 2005. 11. I doubt Roush would want Stenhouse practicing Edwards' car while Carl is somewhere else with the Cup series like Darnell did this past weekend. I'd guess one of the other Roush Cup drivers could be in the #6 at Daytona. 12. gordi101 posted: 06.07.2010 - 1:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) good race and a good win for k-zone. 13. 18Fan posted: 06.07.2010 - 1:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ragan will prob be in 6 Car In the coming weeks 14. This is only Carl's 2nd top five in the last 9 races. His avg start this year is 3.4 but his avg finish is 9.4, compared to Keselowski who's the reversal: 9.2 avg start, 4.1 avg finish. Paul Menard gets his best Nationwide finish since 3rd at Homestead in 2006. Justin Allgaier gets back-to-back top fives for the 2nd time in his career, both this season. He was also the highest finishing NNS regular. Mike Bliss gets his first top five since Memphis late last season driving the #11. Brad Coleman gets his 3rd top ten in his last 9 starts for JGR since last season, and the 10th of his career in his 54th career start. Sorenson's 7th top ten in 9 starts this year puts him just 122 point back of 10th in the standings; he'll likely be closing out the rest of the season in the #32 so a top 10 points finish is likely despite not running 4 races. Steven Wallace's 5th top ten of the year is the most he's ever had at this point in a Nationwide season. He's also 2 spots better than he was at this point in 2009, 9th compared to 11th. "Scott Riggs' first start in the Nationwide Series since 2007 and first top ten in the series since Richmond in 2006." Riggs made 4 starts earlier this year for RAB Racing; he's finished in the top 20 in all 5 Nationwide starts this season. 18 year old Matt DiBenedetto finishes in the top ten in just his 2nd career start. He made his Nationwide debut last season, starting 4th and finishing 14th at Memphis. Tayler Malsam finishes 11th in his first Nationwide start; he left Kyle Busch Motorsports and the #56 team (now shut down) after the first 7 races of the Truck Series season. Coleman Pressley is 3 for 3 in finishing in the top 20 in races he finishes. Willie Allen tied his best career Nationwide finish with 15th. This is Josh Wise's best Nationwide finish since 12th at Homestead in 2008. Jeremy Clements finishes in the top 20 for a 2nd straight race, first time in his career. Jason Keller finishes in the top 20 for the 5th time in the last 6 races; the #35 team is 32nd in the owners standings, 56 points behind 30th. For a 2nd straight race Brian Scott was the ROTR but finished outside the top 25. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spun during qualifying, was still able to get his laps in but failed to make the race. The #6 RFR Ford is now 34th in the owners standings, 154 points behind 30th. 15. If I remember correctly, it was Coleman's decision to leave the part time ride in the #18 for a full time ride in the #27 for 2008. He then decided to leave the #27 for a ride with Hall of Shame racing which didn't pan out, which left him rideless until that part time gig with the #20 turned up last year. "And Ricky Stenhouse, please don't answer your phone this week...you're not going to like the news." So true, that's why Ickler will be driving the #6 next week, even though Wrecky finished 9th in that race last year. Both Pressley and Wise did better in their first start for JRM than Arpin did in 4 starts. First top ten for Scott Riggs since New Hampshire four years ago, good to see him driving some quality equipment again. 16. JRM did bad on Arpin by rushing him into Nationwide when he's only in his 2nd year in ARCA, and I don't think he'd even won yet when they announced he'd be in the car. Although I appreciate JRM hiring Canadian drivers. :D 17. 18fan posted: 06.16.2010 - 6:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anybody else notice how bad Vince Welch was in the booth for this race? Here's a list of those drivers: #22 - Parker Kligerman (sub for Brad Keselowski) #60 - Erik Darnell (sub for Carl Edwards) #98 - Colin Braun (sub for Paul Menard) [Braun had been benched in favor of Brian Ickler in the #16 car for this race.] Darnell and Braun participated in both practice sessions, while Kligerman only participated in the first session (which he split with Keselowski). Neither Menard nor Edwards got any practice time prior to qualifying. 25. Following the devastating floods that struck Nashville, native Allen and the Wayne Day Racing crew had heavy hearts in trying to put forth a strong run for the home crowd. Not locked in on points, the 05 team had quite the scare when the car wouldn't start in line for qualifying, as the very last to go. They managed to get it started before the 5 minute clock was up, and made the race. But, the same issues that almost caused them to miss this race returned at the grid for the event, and Allen took the initial green 2 laps down. This wouldn't deter Allen and the Day crew, as they fought hard all night to get those two laps back and score a top 15 finish. Was arguably the best story of the weekend. I imagine Willie will have quite a nostalgic experience when the NCWTS returns to Nashville this year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
